Your first PCB

Post by MOSQUITO FIGHTER »

What was the first PCB you owned? If you don't own any what would you like to get first?

I'd really like to have Air Gallet set up in a nice cab. Or maybe Robotron. I just can't bring myself to justify the price, space, and potential maintenance involved.

I picked up my first PCB in 1996 - Robocop. I bought it from an arcade in a local seaside town called 'Barry Island' for the amazing price of £20 :)

I've never owned a PCB or cabinet, but plan on rectifying this situation when my father FUCKING DIES.
I hope to pick up Ghosts n'Goblins, Green Beret and Flying Shark.

Solid choices satan! Those games were my main diet in my spectrum days. Back when I used to dream of the arcade experience at home...

First PCB and cabinet? My first love, Tetris The Grand Master 3 in a trashed wood cabinet. Soon upgraded to a NAC.

IT was a dead race between Puyo Puyo 2, Superspacefortress Macross, Columns 2 and Capcom vs SNK Chaos. But I'd consider Macross the first since it was the first one to go into my cabinet :D

Mine was Irem's Gun Force. Good, cheap game to make sure I knew what I was doing before buying any more expensive PCBs and accidentally frying them. Sold it after I got the 1CC.

Raiden II, followed fairly shortly by Ibara, then a supergun to play them on ;)

My first was Strikers 1945 because it came with the first cabinet I bought (a fairly cheap vertical western-style one.) I ended up selling it when I sold off the cab, but still have most of my PCB collection. The first board I actually bought on its own was Raiden Fighters 2.

Viper Phase 1. Always wanted to play it again after I moved away from an arcade that had it. At the time I had no idea about the version differences, but I ended up receiving Japan New Version.

Silk Worm was the first one I actually received. Although I had bought 3 (2 of them bootleg) PCBs (Sky Shark, Rygar and Perfect Billiards) that took... forever to arrive. I had no idea how to check if a PCB was original or a bootleg, I was just amazed how cheap I could get my favorite games.

never wanted to get into PCBs really, and then after attending my first shmupsmeet I was instantly addicted. system11 even warned me about the slippery slope of collecting/playing and I didn't believe him :(

Espgaluda II. I wanted a promising game that I had never played before, and had absolutely no other way of playing (not in any arcades near me, no ports, not emulated on MAME). I loved Espgaluda, so I was quite sure I would enjoy the sequel. It didn't hurt that it was rather inexpensive for a new-ish CAVE game. Much cheaper than, say, Mushihimesama Futari 1.5 was running for. Needless to say, I was very happy with my choice.

I remember an article in a German video game magazine which had a Screenshot of the Tatsujin Oh / Truxton 2 bomb (the yelllow / orange skull bomb) and I was blown away by that screenshot alone :) . A few months later (we talking around late 1992/ early 1993) we had a family dinner in a Yugoslavian restaurant and in the lobby they had two woody cabinets and in one of them was Truxton 2. Seeing that game the first time actually running was breathtaking - needless to say, the dinner wasn't the main priority this evening. I begged my Grandmother to give
me 5 Deutsche Mark (1 credit = 1 Deutsche Mark) and to my surprise she gave me 10 Deutsche Mark :D (probably because she wanted to enjoy the dinner in peace 8) ). I loved the game and at the time I went to the restaurant whenever I had some money saved :) - I even noticed the tel nr. and adress of the arcade operator and called to ask what the price for Truxton 2 was (it was like 600 Deutsche Mark :? ). It crushed my hopes (I was 14 at the time) to get that game one day but I made a notice in the back of my mind - when you have a job / the money this is the first game I want (didn't even know at that time that the games are on PCB's).

So at the end of the 90's (I was 18 / 19) I finally bought Tatsujin Oh / Truxton 2 and I still loved it :) . Due to financal problems I sold it around 2002 (and always regreted it). 2007 I rebought the PCB and I still have it and will never sell it :D .

So short answer  :

A tie between Strikers 1999 and Dragon Blaze, bought them both at the same time, same seller. Dragon Blaze wins the tiebreaker since I played it first.

Tecmo Knight in a busted cab. Wound up having to sell both the board/cab due to moving around the same time. Still haven't even played the game, but I don't think I'm missing much.

This is better than a "first time you fingered a girl" thread. Alas, that I can remember... my first PCB I can't. Ketsui was pretty quickly purchased (probably 3rd or 4th) but this was when it only ran 30,000 yen.
