I Kickstarted this game a while back, so I got in on the pre-release this weekend. I played all weekend and could hardly put it down. It is really good, and probably the most challenging turn-based RPG I've ever played. Is anyone else stoked for/already playing this? I think it will be available for $20 tomorrow. I highly recommend it.
Darkest Dungeon
Re: Darkest Dungeon
Oh look, an inevitably over-promising/under-delivering, crowdfunded PC WRPG dungeon crawler with a creatively lazy grimdark comic-booky art style. Never seen that before.
Why is EVERY crowdfunded game a dungeon crawler RPG or a space sim? Just how many neckbeards are there with so much disposable income to fritter away on all these projects that could very easily end up canceled with no refunds, or turn out to be scams?

I believe that the days of a professional company being able to make this kind of game are long gone. People still want to play them, but not in the amount that makes them commercially viable as they once were.
In the past, it was possible to program a game at home, with the help of an artist, and a few other people, and have it picked up by a major publisher for a retail release. This is impossible now, due to the advance of technology demanding a higher-quality product produced by scores of highly-trained professionals.
The inverstor model is the way these games are being made now. If they can swing it, that's good.

I've been keeping an eye on this game since the Kickstarter page went up, looks very promising. As I mentioned in another thread however, I'm bummed that it's still an early access game and not the full package yet. I'm considering not spoiling myself for now and wait for the full release.
Looking back, I'm glad I waited to try FTL until Advanced Edition came out, it improved so many things and the game became much better. I imagine it'll be the same here.
@Pretas: Jesus dude, you need to chill. Way to pass judgement on a game you know nothing about.

I can't speak for the quality of the game myself, but I really doubt it will be cancelled or scammy at this stage - it's not a kickstarter project, it's already a playable game on Steam.
Is this game any good? I'm not really digging the graphical presentation, it reminds me of the kinds of RPGs you'd find on free-to-play sites like Newgrounds.

It's a commentary on the kind of people who want these games: dungeon crawler RPGs represent the dilapidated state of their intestines after living on nothing but cheetos for years, while space sims symbolize the vacuum that is their existence.Pretas wrote:Why is EVERY crowdfunded game a dungeon crawler RPG or a space sim?
