Recommended Youtube Channels

Post by MOSQUITO FIGHTER »

I'm getting really bored with the YouTube channels I'm subscribed to. The only one I watch on a regular basis any more is Classic Game Room. Any recommendations? Games, music, anything really.

I like Glenn Plant N64 a lot. Oh, & TNT Amusements! It's an arcade restoration warehouse that puts up vids for everything they restore & is really lovable. Probably my favorite channel to just zone out on. Todd Tuckey cracks me up

I like Jay Leno's Garage (user name is jaylenosgarage). Lots of classic and modern cars, history, the experience of driving, technical details, from a guy who has the kind of experience that only comes from having interacted with thousands of people.

I highly recommend "Bithead1000". He got to jail for punching his girlfriend beaking her jaw because she threw away his entire video game collection after a big argument. While in jail for 1,5 years he had this idea for a youtube channel where he documentates rebuilding a new collection. He started his show in 2011, I think.
I first saw a video from him where he built a container for all his games for his detached-house. It's great stuff and I immediately was hooked. I then started right from the beginning and watched every episode so far.
His style is somewhat trashy but over the years he found his own style. He is really funny with a great sense of humor. And he has a great taste of video games, mainly being into 2d-shooters. He just aquired a PC Engine and started his series "PC-Engine Chronicles", with R-Type being his first review. Great stuff guys! Highyl recommended!

There's plenty of talented dudes around these parts with YouTube channels, many in signature links. Actual skill, an understanding of the games (*gasp* they actually play them!), and they're not annoying with drab attempts at humor!

iconclast575 - Channel by a member from our forum. Great taste in action video games by a high skilled player:

https://www.youtube.com/user/iconoclast575/

Das24680 - Mostly grand strategy or space 4x but really good stuff. What makes him so great is the fact that he actually explains what he is doing and why he is doing it. I learned playing Distant Worlds from his videos. The dev even linked his videos as tutorials for the game, lol. If you want to give some of those games a try, I highly recommend his videos. Very nice voice, I could listen to him for hours.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHJM-V ... xvGp4BHWBA

JPCMHD - Japanese commercials. Weekly updates. This stuff is just plain hilarious.

https://www.youtube.com/user/JPCMHD

NOW, to the creepy stuff. Please don't judge, I'm a lonely old man.

ASMR videos. You need to listen to it via headphones, if you get, you get it, if not, ignore it.
Here are two examples from my fav channels:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFZ-wxUpEvg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vn1YqqexRTs

Jellybeannose - I hate K-Pop, but damn, this girls has some nice hips, see example:

ADRIANF1esp is a channel dedicated to modern racing games. Lots of content in there. Even if you don't like racing games much, it's fun to just watch him drive.

My two favorite channels on youtube are takapunch (classic NJPW/AJPW theme covers) and oddsandends0105 (Perfume dance covers by large groups of people). OP did say anything.

Replay Burners is my favorite video game channel.

For console gaming:
Happy Console Gamer - I always like to watch Johnny & Rob talk about games. They manage to wring out a nice, nostalgic feel and the room they're in adds to that. Probably not everyone's cup of tea (lack of 1CC and such).

Game Sack - Long episodes, stiff & weird humour but it's par for the course. Surprisingly enjoyable and great production values.

For PC/Tech/Audio/Video
Tek Syndicate - Probably my favorite PC/general tech channel. Logan gives you the quick lowdown and Wendell will get into the greasy details. Enjoyable, thoughtful but maybe not everyone's cup of tea...

Z Reviews - Zeos from r/Zeos reviews audio gear (and some other things). If you're into speakers, headphones, amps etc this might be right up your alley. Filmed with a go-pro and with lots of rambling from an interesting fellow.

For art
Yoshikadu2011 (slight nsfw warning) - Channel belonging to talented manga artist Hamada Yoshikazu. Here you'll find recordings of him working (both on cover illustrations as well as normal pages). Most uploads feature his current work Tsugumomo. He excels in both character drawing and backgrounds.

I like to watch

Hellfire64 (Rob Plays): Nice longplays of C64 games that go into the game mechanics

Lazy Game Reviews: Fun show about various classic computer and sometimes console games. Lots of history.

Pushing Up Roses: Pushing Up Roses does pretty funny let's-plays of point and click games, and occasionally other genres.

Retro Core: Good shows about import gaming and comparisons between arcade port versions

Metal Jesus Rocks: Lots of shows where he invites a guest on to talk about the hidden gems on a platform they collect for, and solo shows about various other classic console games and systems.

LemonAmiga and LemonC64: In-depth plays of games that talk about the history, strategy, and give a review too.

Super Bunnyhop - I loathe all those Youtube cunts, but I love, love, love George. Swoon.

Joe Rogan Experience - I hate the UFC and I don't really rate Joe's stand-up, or Joey Diaz's, or Ari Shaffir's, or Duncan Trussell's, but I like them off stage and they're part of Joe's crew, and appear regularly. I particularly like Duncan Trussell and also check his podcast regularly, although that's audio only for now. My favourite stand ups are Stanhope and Anthony Jesselnik. I do check this podcast out at least a couple of times a week, skipping it when it's someone from the UFC.

The Onion's had some nice shows. Their blockbuster hit, Sex House, is obviously one of the greatest series of all time. The Film Standard, Lake Dredge Appraisal, their election coverage; hard-hitting stuff a man needs more than he needs oxygen.

Red Letter Media is also my only contact with Hollywood movies these days.

Killgruz - Youtube's foremost authority on classic and obscure Macintosh gaming, a subject I knew nothing about before discovering his channel. He's a bit of a crass neckbeard, but his scripted videos are well produced and thoroughly detailed while remaining succinct. His voice sometimes gets grating though.

DOS Nostalgia - English-speaking Russian guy with a channel full of reviews, podcasts and miscellany pertaining to non-Windows IBM-compatible PC gaming. Has a soothing, Russian-accented radio voice and a knack for smooth video editing. Recently been featuring more videos of ultra-obscure Russian DOS games.

Excalibur Brothers - An often very witty British duo who produce humorous video reviews covering a wide range of console and PC games, without trying to ape the AVGN. Their 20-minute Sonic 2006 review is a must-see, even if you already know how much the game sucks. They've also done some jokey projects like a parody dub of Star Wars KotoR, and an ironically terrible iOS STG game that you can download.

Sly Dog Studios - Makes NES video strategy guides and superplay recordings with an endearing, genuine sense of childlike enthusiasm, always making sure to never spoil a game's ending in his guides. Regularly shows off his impressive knowledge of obscure tips and tricks spanning the system's library. More recently, he's been making homebrew NES games.

Gotta promote. Well worth watching:

Kind of a mix of stuff, but the new series "Music Video Mondays" is brilliant. Mondays suck, it's the perfect way to put off starting work when you get in the office:

Ep 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivwyKoHtr0c

Ep 3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLzK-6ES68E
Ep 4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hg3fFe8n-EQ

And the other concurrent series, Food For Thought, some of my highlights:

I've been watching a lot of The Spectrum Show, which is all about the ZX Spectrum home computer that was popular in Europe in the 80s. Lots of game reviews, and reviews of weird gear (like a video capture rig for the ZX! Whoa!)
https://www.youtube.com/user/BuckingTheTrend2008

I've also been updating my channel a lot lately with new reviews :)

I seen your Duel video and that Jaguar bike game. Really liked what I seen, especially because you really play your games until you have a much better understanding of them. Your channel is now bookmarked. Keep up the good work.

Oh man, this guy is awesome with a great sense of humour. Thanks for recommending him. Reminds of Al Bundy in coolness at times. I'm currently watching his PC Engine Chronicles (at Gate of Thunder at this very moment), and really enjoying these lets plays. Watching him play Salamander was my fave so far. But when he was fighting Tetran, I couldn't help but cringe everytime he didn't group his options for more damage, not that it took away from the entertainment. Too bad he didn't play more of it.

This looks like it might be good. Will check out further later. Two channels I mentioned above are on much higher priority.

Might as well add my recommendation; https://www.youtube.com/user/spida1a/vi ... shelf_id=4

spida1a is basically on a mission to play and beat every US released Turbo/CD game. So basically actually playing the game with very great review standards (best I've seen), his passion for the Turbo/CD, great sense of humour/commentary, lots of shooter reviews up already = highly recommended.

Only problem is he slowed down a lot recently. Not sure what's up, but here's hoping his reviews come at a steadier pace once again soon.

Just went on a spree and watched a ton of "Cool and Unusual Games" videos. And just want to say I enjoyed them a lot where I still want to watch them and need to force myself to stop to do some gaming of my own. Last this happened was when I discovered the SNESdrunk channel (another channel I recommend even though I'm more of a Sega fan + he does other consoles like Sega too and doesn't bias against it).

Anyway, now I'm hoping the Cool and Unusual Games channel is another channel that pumps them out quick enough. Get back to work playing games, Louis! :p (PS - you have good taste in games, or at least similar to mine)

Yes, it sure was witty, ironic, and downright hilarious when he committed aggravated domestic assault over a fucking video game collection. Get the fuck out of here.

Replay Burners is by far the best gaming channel on YT. The quality is gorgeous and the players are competent (assuming they're not tool-assisted, I'd like to believe that most aren't). On that note, World of Longplays is the worst - they're still uploading 30fps, all the retro stuff is tool-assisted, and even then the players don't know what the fuck they're doing. Total garbage. Actually, I'd still rather watch them than that Francis asshole.

I also like Chrontendo, Mikado, SaikyoMog (RIP), ZiggyD, Generation 16 and, to lesser extents, GameSack ("tayt" argh) and Jeremy Parish's game boy series. I used to watch a lot of HCBailly's LPs and he does a good job for YT standards, but I can't stand his voice anymore. I also used to play Warcraft - Trade Chat and Bellular Gaming are decent if that's your thing.

Oh yeah, I like these cats: Cole & Marmalade, Crie and Moire, Maru & Hana, The Mean Kitty, and Butterscotch. Also all cats. :3
