Edit: the scores are in there, but I need to clean up the thread a little bit. For now: just pretend the numbers match up until I can get on my good pc.

Funny that the only run I decided to capture tonight ended up being my best score so far. Nice to finally join the 100+ club after quite a long break. I'm so going to ALL this game, that is my goal.

Amazing, was playing it again tonight and I "experienced" (100% certain death) a pattern at the very end of 2-4 Kraken that I've NEVER seen before. Shot a whole bunch of mini-Kraken's out in the final section that I did not expect to happen at all... WTF! This game is just nuts.

Yeah - great video. It's made me thirst for returning to Progear. As a regular player I could get the 1st loop clear fairly regularly... I'd love to just make that second loop. Maybe a shmup goal for 2015!

Absolutely spadgy, yeah, if you can regularly 1CC the first loop you should be able to hit it! Just taking bombs out of your run you'll get the second loop every time if you're playing at that level, even if it ends up that you die on the pattern(s) you typically would use a bomb on.

Hitting the ALL is definitely going to be my goal for the beginning of 2015! :D Spent most of the weekend trying to figure out where I should be bombing in 2-5, and I think my line for 2-4 is pretty solid now. Basically, I'm just playing at a level to enter the second loop with at least 9 lives, not really caring about the full bomb bonus for these attempts (although if it happens it's totally cool). Kraken's still giving me problems, but a lot less than it used to with more aggressive point blanking/bombing in certain patterns. Certainly seeing major progress with my play, one credit for me is ending at 2-5 almost every time. I'm thinking if I can make it to 2-5 with at least 5 or 6 lives (and I don't waste all my lives getting through the stage) I should be able ALL it, even if it's an ugly-looking ALL. It feel's very obtainable now though.

On a side note, it was kind of funny that I hit 100+ mil again like a day or two after the 107 mil. Although this run felt much more relaxed where I was a bit out of my mind when I passed that mark initially.

Received that PCB in the mail today ( US version ). I set it to default settings and been playing for two hours straight, really having a blast!
Im not there yet but I came close to making the US top 25 board. Will hit back when I do it!
(Edit: holy crap some of the top scores are insane! )

With my 1 day of practice I just missed the 25th place in the US board by 32 000 pts. I have a hard time adjusting to the elevator style of the 4th stage.

Just had an excellent run (which was nice considering I played like shit all weekend) this evening. Oh if only I could put together my line for 2-5 consistently, the points I'd have just for the clear...! Arr. More practice is needed, so that's cool, I was thrilled with the progress. Even though I had full bomb bonus going into 2-3, I wisely bombed twice during the stage, died during the boss, bounced back with perfect play on 2-4 getting back all 9 lives, while only losing one to Kraken. Then I crawled to 120 million.

Still, I'm very happy!

I managed to beat my previous score by a little bit and reach stage 5. Stage 4 is beating me pretty hard hehe.
It is not going to make me move up the board but since it has not been updated I will post it.
I know I have a low score for stage 5 but I try to focus on survival.

I watched your replay STG, holy crap o_O I did not know you had to restart the whole level when you lose a life in the Jp version.
That is pretty hardcore
On my USA on default I just respawn. Anyway amazing performance, really impressed.

I have no idea how to get that extend on stage 4, time to google it.

That only happens in loop 2 and only during the stage part as bosses don't force you back to the start when you die to them.

Haha, yeah, if you go back a bunch of pages when I started posting scores in this thread I said the exact same thing about the restarts! And Chaos is exactly right about how it works. I'm sure the US version plays exactly the same as the JPN version with the stage restarts in the second loop, as it doesn't seem like a lot is different other than less voice samples, some text changes, and default difficulty settings.

As for the 1up in Stage 4, it takes a little bit of practice, as after you take care of the large mid-boss-ish gunner that's following the track you need to destroy the second descending gunner first and then destroy the first one that appears to trigger it. There's a couple different ways you can get it, but I typically give the first one a quick point blank shot with C, pull back a bit to lead it's bullets, then go straight for the second one and destroy it quickly (or hold A and turn it into gems while I destroy it). You can use a bomb to get it (which is what I do in the second loop) but your timing of releasing the bomb has to be a bit early (and you can't heavily shoot the first gunner while the bomb is doing it's thing) otherwise it won't release. Not exactly sure why that is, could be damage based, could be because of the bomb...

Haha, For some reason I was sure the restart level on dying was a JP version thing.

I tried to get the extra life by killing the second tank first but ended up cornered by bullets and bombed my way out, no life appeared :p
Oh well next time maybe.

I can confirm the level restart exists in the US version.

Thanks for the confirmation ArrogantBastard, figured as much! After playing the US version, did you notice any other minute changes like different/tweaked bullet patterns or changes in enemy timings, stuff like that? I figure an experienced player like yourself would pick up on those types of subtle changes immediately.

Wouldn't mind getting a US kit just for the hell of it...

If I remember correctly, everything is pretty much the same except for the bullet density due to its difficulty setting.

It's been years since I've played both Progear version.
