Best way to start with this franchise is watching the first movie trilogy.

Waifu and I discovered that we are keen fans of the anime shown on the noitamina show (a midnight anime slot). Any suggestions on shows/channels/time slots on which more adult-oriented anime are shown?

While I do not agree with KAI (as I love the original Gundam 0079 series unequivocally), I will admit those films are very very good, and include 'Ai Senshi' - otherwise known as the best song ever in the history of the animes, ever.

Utterly utterly impressed by Eureka Seven's many hard acid/techno references. It is is very nice to have episodes named after things you have on 12" :).
When one episode was called 'Into The Nature' - I was like 'nah gotta just be a coincidence' - but when the next episode was called 'Acperience 1' it was undeniable that the creator must be a Hardfloor fan, a group that to me are the finest combination of 303 and 909 ever, bar none. I also of course should have realised earlier the names of the mecha and other things: KLF, LFO, 303 Devilfish (a modded 303), 606, 909, 808....
Yep I was pretty slow to realise all this o_O.

Apart from that I'm liking it a lot, between it and Gainer im feeling in a very positive mood about the animes atm.

Sunrise have recently partnered up with RightStuf to distribute Gundam anime within North America. This union should start bearing fruit in the coming year, so don't be too shocked if they announce 0079 for Blu-ray/DVD release sometime soon.

Finished Ideon, slow to the very end and the ending made no sense to me
Is Be Invoked as good as I heard it is?

Also, how are Xabungle and Aura Battler Dunbine?

Like Right Stuf's Gundam Unicorn releases, they will likely be DVD only to protect Japanese Blu-ray sales against "reverse importing."

Bandai did release Unicorn on BD themselves in the US, but the discs are locked down with BD Live DRM and require a compatible player with a constant internet connection to phone home for authentication.

Where did you see this? I'm not seeing this information anywhere.

Be Invoked is incredible seriously. I don't know if you like Evangelion or not, but the whole mood of the darker parts of Evangelion definitely evokes the spirit of Be Invoked.

I've watched about 5 episodes of Xabungle so far and it seems good fun. I have not watched Dunbine yet.

As Raytrace says.
I found it even darker than Evangelion, since in Eva it is "only" one planet that is obliterated, whereas in Ideon...
Arguably the pinnacle of Tomino's "kill'em all" series.

re: Eureka: RT, the "acid/trance" consultant on the series was the main singer/composer of Denki Groove, who produced quite a few good albums in the early '90s.
There should be a song from Denki Groove in the OST, too: niji (or whatever the Japanese word for "rainbow" is).
It is featured during the second season, but I can't recall when.

Also I think I asked this before but is it fine to watch Stardust Memory separately or do I have to start Gundam from the very beginning to understand it?

Be Invoked is the End of Eva of Ideon. Get ready for a mind fuck if you are gonna watch it.

Dropped Dunbine after a few episodes. It was kinda boring.

BTW, watched and loved Ace wo Nerae! (Movie). Dezaki's direction was great (no one can make sport anime like him), Sugino's designs are beautiful, and I can finally understand all those references in Gunbuster (The first episodes are basically a copy of this with robots instead of tennis).
Definitely worth checking out.

^Hell yeah, Aim for the Ace is, uh... aces. Stylish and all that Dezaki flair I know and love, plus I used to play tennis, so that sorta adds some extra points for me. It's basically as dramatic as that, yeah.

@Bananamatic: You need to watch at least the first serie to get the whole picture (and maybe some Zeta)

I watched a few episodes of the second season of Mushi-Shi. Outstanding, just like the first series. If anyone knows where to get the OSTs please LMK.

Dude thats a total load of shit. You have no clue what you're talking about.
The only thing on the Unicorn discs that required BD Live were the extras, as they were updated periodically with supplementary material like individual episode audio commentary, story boards, and teaser trailers for other Bandai properties.
The discs function perfectly fine without an internet connection, so stop spreading misinformation.

Honestly (and I'm trying to not do my usual lie as I think everyone should watch UC Gundam from the start, and series only ;) ) - I think it would be kinda confusing.

If you do watch it btw - make sure to watch the OVAs and not the 'movie'.

Ok I couldn't give half a shit about tennis at all... Would I like it, if only maybe as research on the roots of my beloved Gunbuster?

I saved the OSTs from youtube, but my sister-in-law will send the CDs to us soon. In theory, they can be found on amazon, as imports.
Now, I must say that Mushishi is absolutely impressive for this unworthy one writing this post.
It is not just the sheer quality of the craft behind the anime, the manga, etc.
As someone who grew up in the kind of mountainous demi-worlds often depicted in Ginko's travels, there is something deeper that resonates in me whenever I watch this series.
The last time I had a walk up in the mountains, I was really expecting to see mushi floating around the air.

Yes, you would. If you liked Ashita no Joe and The Rose of Versalles I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Just found out the OVA series (Ace wo Nerae! 2 and Final Stage) hasn't been subbed yet, but they are available with spanish dub (YAY!!)

Yeah, you'll still dig it. I think Dezaki could have made an anime about papercraft or basket weaving and I'd still love it.
