I suspect Irem was only willing to give up the ZZT IP because they had formally retired it from use following the Tohoku disaster. I doubt they're willing to relinquish R-Type/Gen-san/Bumpy Trot yet.

Slightly related: Wasn't Granzella was a name of one of playable human side from R-Type Tactics 2 (Granzella Revolution Army)? Nice choice of name.
