Lol, and I felt a giant stab in my chest when I saw this title :(
There's a logo for some company besides SUCCESS suggesting outsourcing, so there is some danger of it being Mushihimesama Duel type rubbish.
Their Twitter says there's info and pics in Famitsu already.

Y'know, normally, I'd agree with you guys, but the way Psyvariar is played could lead to some interesting touch-screen gameplay. Needing to buzz as many bullets as possible at all times.

The question is whether the player will look like a cat playing one of pet games or not.

I was wondering about that, rolling is too awkward on a pad or other controls without an extra button for it but could the original wiggle mechanic work with touch?

Btw, I'm still trying to decipher what this tweet says - https://twitter.com/PsyvariarRA/status/ ... 6456474624 - it seems to say that screenshots are already out but they're nowhere to be found, and it's not clear if this Famitsu App is the release platform or if it's where you can get the inside scoop including said screenshots

Skonec's name is nowhere to be found. Looks like it's being developed by an unknown studio called Aweg.

And yes, this is trolling on the level of Capcom's "Breath of Fire 6" browser game.

I love the Psyvariar series, and I'm fine with iOS shmups, so I'm willing to give this some time.

I'd never argue that smartphone shmups compare to arcade/console. But I've had plenty of fun with titles like Dodonpachi Maximum and Shogun, and on a bus ride and such they're good enough for me. I think of them as a compliment to 'proper shmups', rather than anything like a parallel, and in that context for me they can be tonnes of fun.

Obviously, of course, I'd prefer this to be on a cab!

A new Psyvariar? YES!
Wait, WHAT? For iOS.
*cue The Price Is Right losing horn*
I was hoping it would be a true 3rd Psyvariar title coming for PS3, 360, or PS4. Success Fails.

If this is actually good and lives up to Skonec's output, I hope it gets a console port.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

Why does Wasi303 keep tweeting about this, could he be involved somehow?
He made a tweet that mentions ORE808, the lead designer of all the games in the series, but as usual it's completely garbled by machine translation, you can see it here https://twitter.com/WASi303/status/545610611703296000

Upon reading this newfangled Psyvariar thread, could this be a brand new 3rd Psyvariar sequel in the works? Then seeing that it's slated to be released for iOS platform...still cool nevertheless to hear of a Psyvariar port for iOS. It's about damn time that they did release it for that particular platform.

Sad to hear that Skonec went under some time back. Success Corp. should get the original Psyvariar dev team back together again and make a proper third arcade shmup sequel of Psyvariar (considering that the 2nd one of Psyvariar 2: The Will to Fabricate was released back in 2004). It'd be cool to listen to some newly created Psyvariar 3 BGMs courtesy of Oreo808 (aka Tetsuro Sato) himself. The three current Psyvariar shmups still have that trademarked and unmistakable Oreo808 techno-inspired vibe going on with the BGMs to set the tone and pace.

The real question is, what would Success need to do to spice up the gameplay and add a new game mechanic or two to the overall game of such a true 3rd Psyvariar sequel...and can it be done with the right balance in the given stages (for that unique Psyvariar shmup experience/vibe not to be missed)? Address those key issues and a proper Psyvariar sequel is created. As for the storyline, it could go a number of ways or simply continue where Psy-2 ends.

It was quite something to see Success' Psyvariar Medium Unit up & running at various Japanese game centers back in late March 2000 on the venerable Taito G-Net arcade gaming platform (it was so new that even a "New Game" banner were added to the candy cabs to promote the fact that it was a brand new shmup to play/check it out) -- I was blown away by the sheer number of scatter-fire bullets fired from the end-stage boss of the last stage indeed. Had the rare opportunity to play it on the last stage boss and it didn't disappoint whatsoever. The later revised version of Psyvariar Revision released in September of 2000 made it's debut in the Japanese game centers was a major improvement (including a special password system ranking system that was novel/something different for a change of pace for the arcade shmup genre of it's time -- I recall visiting the Psy-R website and checking out the latest scores from the ace Psy-R players back in late December of 2000). Only if I had access to a supergun, a Taito G-Net motherboard and a G-Card of Psy-R, could I submit such a score to that cool site back in the day -- a typical G-Net setup was quite expensive during those days with a price tag of close to $1,500 alone making it prohibitively a very expensive endeavor/hobby to play it properly as intended/meant to be.

Makes me wonder if this new iOS port of Psyvariar will have support for iCade and/or Bluetooth iOS gaming controllers as well. The Buzz gaming mechanic would work well with such a dedicated controller setup.

Taito G-Net Factoid: It's well known that you can hook up a pair of 100w passive powered bookshelf speakers directly to a G-Net mobo and it won't even break a sweat handling such a serious speaker/wattage setup and all in pure 44.1kHz CD quality sound output quite easily (in stereo mode, of course). The G-Net's on-board huge MOSfet heatsink remains cool to the touch as well.

I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure WASi303 is one of the two/three composers for the original games. He's credited in it here: http://vgmdb.net/album/6196

iOS is great but falls victim to shovelware just like the Wii did, & thus it's popular to dislike. Otherwise it's an incredible platform when in the right hands. Really glad to hear that the Psyvariar series is alive & well since I love shmups.

Yeah that's the question really, is any of the old team involved or will it be just repackaged old work or new but outsourced work.
