I guess a lot depends on controls. I wouldn't want to clear any Cave game with a gamepad. I've just cleared the pcbs in a supergun and found the SDOJ 1CC to be way, way more brutal than DOJ WL 1st loop. DOJ WL 1st loop I don't think took me too long after I cleared the BL, sort of like clearing Guwange shortly after clearing the Blue Label.

yeah, im admittedly pretty jealous of your pcbs (saw your doj tamashii run numerous times). sdoj has the hitbox jewel and tons of slowdown in hectic areas, that aided me in my 1cc, it was really just about watching the stgweekly episode a few times and then playing it to memorization. doj on the other hand has what seems like a wonkey hitbox, no jewel and absolutely no slowdown in the ps2 port at any point. not to mention after comparing the mame version with ps2 verion and mame, the ps2 wl has faster and more dense patterns from the bosses no matter the difficulty. and no, never ever ever a gamepad with an stg X.X just thinking of it makes me sad lol!

I don't know, on the pcb the slowdowns don't come nearly as often as I'd like or when I need them, even with playing with Type-A. Maybe they tweaked that out on arcade mode for the port. You didn't clear it with that cheap character only, did you? Cause that's not a real clear.

B-S and B-EX in sdoj give more slowdown when using shot than the other types
and yeah type D is stupid, the slowdown you get from the shot is ridiculous to the point of the game slowing down with no bullets on the screen

though type d is really cool looking and I do like to play the arrange mode every once in a while, the risk vs reward in scoring is cool and damn that hyper is massive! lol

The slowdown really is a shame as I do like Type D's shottype outside of that.

the shot power is also way too high, if you have everything connecting with the enemy it does way more damage than the laser

As far as I know, the difficulty settings really only affect the initial rank, so easier difficulties will start with lighter bullet patterns, which will of course get heavier the higher the difficulty is set.

I didn't actually clear SDOJ before packing my bags and leaving it all behind, but in the brief time I had with it my progress to 1-5 (didn't get the 1cc) was much faster than DOJ WL. Just a few sittings, a couple of hours play. I found it a lot easier to simply wade in and survive while dabbling with scoring, while DOJ required more strategic application to progress. I go back to DOJ WL in the arcade (when not incorrectly set up) and it's still brutal. id say the first ddp is 'easier' than others in the series, but all of them are still pretty damn hard lol. doj white label is probably the hardest stg ive ever played...
my opinion only, but id say (most difficult first): DOJ wl, SDOJ, DDP, DP, DFK
All this disparity of opinion could be down to learning curves I suppose - perhaps clearing DOJ made SDOJ feel easier: but I'm not sure I buy that because Progear was my first Cave clear.

i first played dojwl in the ps2 emu with input lag ages ago back when i was way worse and 1-alled it in a few days, had no issues whatsoever
got sdoj just over a year ago and it was harder to clear than the 1-all on a shitty emu back then
it's all about the hitbox size, the sdoj hitbox feels ridiculously big to me on shot and laser, i even find expert hibachi easier than shot/laser all because of the hitbox size
6x6 is just too damn much and especially worse players will get screwed by it hard

To me DOJ first loop feels hard and refined and SDOJ is more like a madhouse. I think even Yagawa said "this is crazy" when talking about it. Something like that, in regard to the difficulty.

But mad though it is, I found it easier to find a survival line more quickly. WL feels like it needs more planning and stringency through 3-5 or else you just get boxed in, closed down and ass-fucked in a corner.
I only really started to have similar issues on SDOJ 4-5.

don't forget that sdoj is a longer game than 1 loop of WL...especially because of st5 which is the hard part
