EDIT: Want me to bring any sticks? I'll be taking the metra but I'm sure I can bring some things..
It would be appreicate it in case. I updated the AV listing and updated tourney information as well as rooming information.
Please let me know in the next few days who else wants to room unless anyone around Chicago is willing to let people stay at your place. I want to make sure if I need to book the 2nd room by this coming Wednesday (October 1st, 2014)
I'm considering to open this event to the public. As you guys may know, there's a weekly fighting games gathering which we can be sharing the same room. This in turn exposes shmups to a broader community!
When would you like those of us staying in the hotel room to arrive? I could potentially be up there Thursday, but obviously if no room is there, I don't wanna come up and just be loafing around town in my car

Preferable on Friday
I think 4 is enough for the Twinkle Star Sprites tournament, but I may opt for a point/round robin tournament to make it fair. Anyone else interested in signing up?
Checked out GGA last Sunday on the status of the renovation and looks like they're pretty much done. We definitely have Livestream equipment, CRTs, some consoles, arcade PCBs, and a couch to use. Be aware we're going to share a room where GGA hold's their weekly fighting night on Fridays, but there's more than enough room for all of us.
Due to a lack of signups for the TSS tourney, I have to cancel it.
Had a blast, thanks again for hosting and doing everything you did for us beats! Definitely interested in heading out again next time you get somethin going
thanks for organizing everything and hosting the event. I had a blast shmupping with everyone and cannot wait for the next one. galloping ghost was a much better venue to host the event than I thought it was gonna be.
I had such a fantastic time! It was great finally meeting everybody in person. I can't wait to do it again soon. We have to make sure to get the twinkle star sprites tournament going strong.
Glad to see you guys who got a chance to hangout last week, pleased things turn out a lot better than expected. I'm impressed with Doc and GGA crew with their hospitality, courtesy, and cooperation on holding this event on behalf of me and the shmups community. I will move forward and arrange our next meetup on May 2015.
Before I forget, I'll announce the winners of the STG tourney that thankfully only had 3 people in it (ToDo: add scores)
1) drunknina
2) Zerst
3) majik
You guys will get some sweet custom shirts from our very own Lordstar ;3
I have some mental notes about the meetup I would like to share with everyone
- Congrats to some-mist for demolishing GGA's Progear hi-score
- GGA expansion is incredible, there's even a dedicated section for shmups
- Console area is relatively pretty quiet, nice, secluded area to chill
- Lucky Star Sprites Tourney is a must at all meetups
- Even though we're not even remotely in downtown Chicago, Brookfield has some decent restuarants. No gaming stores nearby I'm aware of
- Giodarnos can deliver deep-dish pizzas at GGA
- Definitely need to make this meetup more aware to the GGA shmup regulars
- Espgaluda with Fever Mode On the whole time is pure bliss
- SOS Feveron's Time Attack Mode got them Caravan awesome sauce
- Drunkninja is awesome at being drunkninja with a "Doomless" Clear on Ketsui
- Did not expect to have a decent gathering on Friday night at the console area
- One word: Warlords
- Still can't 1CC Gradius Gaiden for the life of me, but got to experience Stage 7 without any slowdowns
- May is for sure the best month around here for a big shmups meetup!
it was a great time and wouldn't have happened without your hard work beatsgo. very excited for the next one, and hopefully this time I can coordinate a better work/ride situation.
GGA seemed like a great venue to hold the event too and I'm pretty sure out-of-towners can avoid that shitty Chicago loop traffic altogether? which is probably a major plus since you don't have to spend an hour in downtown traffic and then find parking.
there's also a lot of cool stuff in that suburb area from brookfield zoo (2 miles away from GGA), to brixies craft brew bar a block away, lagrange (beautiful suburb town with great restaurants), and all the stuff beatsgo mentioned if you're looking to flesh out the trip.
also: to add to your list beatsgo, zerst's armed police batrider medal-chaining run is ridiculously awesome. I love seeing his raizing runs.
