Can I use an external sync generator instead of the built in sync from a console? What problems would arise outside of the picture probably not being centered? Centering I can fix with the Extron, I think.
I tried running 480i from a random TV channel on my VCR through an LM1881 and I got a picture that was slowly rolling horizontally, but I'm thinking maybe a pure sync generator would give better results than that, since they're adjustable? I really don't understand very much about sync so I'm hoping somebody could give me some insight here.
I recently realized that I get better results from my PS2 than Wii when converting 480i to 240p via my Extron RGB 201rxi on my PVM20L2. So it's apparent that in certain setups, small differences in the sync signal can alter how the Extron and display react. My 20M2 monitor looked better with the Wii and Extron, but I'd like for my 20L2 to as well.
You can see how the Wii>Extron>20L2 doesn't work perfectly in this pic:

Those white/grey outlines on the letters aren't supposed to be there.

indeed.I really don't understand very much
And no, you cannot use an externally generated sync signal instead of the system's sync signal.

I knew it was long shot, hoping that maybe if you could adjust the timing so that vertical blanking signal was firing at close to the appropriate time, then it would work. I guess all the porch/colorburst/whatnot signals complicate things.
I'm just trying to figure out a way for my 20L2 to not be so finicky with sync compared to my 20M2.
