Mmm, surprised nobody mentioned original Dawn of the Dead before. All awesome movies! Black Mama, White Mama is essential women in prison viewing! Ever see The Arena with both Grier and Markov?

Dawn of the Dead had a great one! When I got to go to that same mall, I said the same line on the same spot.

Ah, not yet. You've actually reminded me that I still need to get around to picking up those Corman-produced locked-up ladies flicks. Thank you.

Here's another winner:

I guess they decided to add a tagline for the blu ray release:

No idea about the quality of the adaptation (I'm taking a wild guess it chokes down balls), but I always liked this one:

Yeah, it chokes all the balls. Been meaning to watch it forever, and after seeing this sat down and finally did tonight. Knowing fully well that it was an Arkoff and Corman production through AIP, I knew it wouldn't be a solid adaptation, but I at least hoped it would be a fun one. I was wrong.

Intro title sequence and title track are groovy, and there's a few decent sets with some attractive purple hues, but that's about it. Sandra Dee has always been a babe and supposedly "bares it," but seems clearly like a stunt double. Throw in some shitty hippie crap, and you have a psychedelic mess. Lots of "ooooh, colored camera negatives! Spooky!" and lots of... nothing. Stuck around hoping there would be at least some charming practical F/X of the monster, but instead more colored camera negative bullshit.

All in all, it sucks eggs.

It's a shame to hear that Dunwich Horror turned out to be the shits, but honestly, it still sounds like something I'd (guiltily) enjoy to a degree.

If you want some visual Lovecraft, you may want to check out The Call of Cthulhu. If you haven't already seen it, and you don't mind a silent movie, I certainly recommend it. So pretty.

I liked that one. Thought their "The Whisperer in Darkness" was good too. I'm also fond of the HPL Historical Society's Dark Adventure Radio Theatre audio plays. edit: whoamg, they've done a lot more since I last checked their site a year back. :o

Well... shit. :? Somehow that one flew completely off my radar. I'll definitely look forward to checking it out. Thanks!

But thankfully, I am aware of the radio dramas, and like you I haven't checked them out in a while. Wonderful stuff for lying on the couch with a nice drink.

*EDIT: Sorry for slightly derailing the thread...

Glad to hear some response on that, I was a bit wary to check it out. I'm big into silent film, but not so much into modern recreations. Watched the trailer last night and have to say it looks quite nice and intrigued me, but of course it is now off of Netflix since I actually want to watch it now. Happens every time. Glad to see someone actually taking Lovecraft serious in the modern age instead of Cthulhu-hand Luke and board games for bores.

Well that's a bit unfortunate Image Not big on the robo-rape but the remorselessly procedural syntax is quite apropos of the nefarious subject!

Up late working with Perturbator for BGM brings many classics to mind. (click for full res)

^ Hell yeah motherfucker.

Image

^ Visually inferior to other versions, but its present-tense iteration of the "She" tagline is far creepier.

Image

^ Also this humorously on-the-nose declaration of intent. Shades of Zombi 2!

What a funky groove! It's not related directly, but listening to that jam reminded me of the great funky theme to Killer Fish:

Killer Fish ~ The Winner Takes All (de Angelis Brothers at their best)

Which coincidentally, has a great tagline as well!

Green slime is soooooooo dope. Bunch of Japanese school children in the costumes!

Still have yet to watch, but always loved this:

Watched the 2nd one the other week, which isn't too good, but was thinking about how much I love this tagline about the poor Davis baby:

Man, was thinking about busting out some Chandler just last night! Been in the mood for some detective stuff, but I opted for sci-fi detective Matt Swain. We'll see how that goes!

Was reminded of this one the other day.

HG Lewis rules. Didn't know that doc was on Criterion. Interesting, curious if they'll put out a boxset or something eventually since I think the Arrow rights were pretty limited. Directed by Henelotter, too. Just rewatched Basket Case 3 the other month!

It's only on the channel, so either they're plotting a release or it's a stream only thing... maybe they don't have the rights, but one of their partners does.

Fuck me, what a groove! Who would've thought The Theme of Killer Fish would be so soulful? Zuntata fans excluded, obviously.
