Took the liberty to grab a picture before the final boss enters its second phase, it's impossible to get one after beating it and Paranoia is of course one of those countless PCE games that doesn't save your score whatsoever. The boss is worth 50,000 points.
'twas a small delight to revisit this game, there are a handful of minor imperfections (third boss, flicker), the rest of the game is surprisingly streamlined and taut, however. If you were to take the loop 2 incarnation of the second boss and take the shield from the player away, for example, it could definitely serve as a foe in an Irem arcade game. Implementing such a durable shield was certainly the right decision for the console market, the overall stage design is untouched by that concession nonetheless.
I'm also fairly certain now that not only does the caterpillar assist you in its butterfly form during the first boss fight if you were successful in fending off the, uh,
temperamental bugs, but that the appearance of the tortoise in the fourth stage is also dependent on whether you were a munificent soul. Quite a neat detail for such an obscure game!
By the way, the reward for clearing the second loop is yet another "fuck you!" from the little alien.
