Aww damn, Beat me to starting up this scoreboard :)

Just out of curiosity, is using an autofire-assisted version of MAME fine for this?

Seven Force | 571.900 | Stage 4 | ♂ 午

Just started to get serious with this game. What's the deal with the level 5 boss, how can one defeat him?

I had forgotten how brilliant this game is.

Icarus - 589,700 - Stage 5

It's all about the weapons in this game. Making sure you're equipped with the correct armaments is key to staying alive in stages and felling bosses quickly. That, and the use of a good safe stage route and correct placement of the Flint as a shield also helps ^_-

Got popped after the big turret wall midway through the stage. Lost both spare lives at the beginning of stage3. Got lucky and found a 1UP on an earlier credit, but I think all item appearances are randomised, which is a bit of a bummer. -_-;;

Word. It's by far my favorite of all "R-Type clones" (although I actually like Last Resort, Pulstar, Blazing Star and Einhänder all better than R-Type, too). Too bad this game is still as underappreciated as when it was released.

I generally find the Homing Laser (the one that shoots 3 ways) the most useful weapon in the game. The most rad weapon has got to be the shadow laser tho. :D

I prefer R-Type ahead of all the clones, but Xexex is a close second for me ^_^

As for weapons, Shadow is the best for felling bosses as it is the most powerful, but for stages, there is always a specific weapon that is suited for that stage.

Homing is great for stage3 but is crap for most others. Search is the best for stage5 as it's rapidfiring, but you often need to have your Flint freefloating to protect you while you use it. And other weapons are better for other stages.

The biggest problem is that it is very difficult to recover from death. Even when you die, the rank goes down only marginally, and once you recover a weapon or a Speedup, it kicks back up again. I lost loads of lives trying to remember the best route through stage3 >_<;;

It's criminal how the budget label releases by Hamster skipped over Xexex entirely. A wasted opportunity. I remember reading in a Super Famicom magazine well over a decade ago how Xexex was slated to be released on the SFami CD (what is now the PSX). Xexex appears to be a game destined to never see a port. -_-;;

Wasted all my credits at the Level 5 boss. This guy REALLY sucks. Finally made it to the safe spot, but then blew it all by making a silly mistake. :evil:

At least I can consistently make it through satge 3 without getting killed now.

BTW, is there a good site to find out which Chinese zodiac sign one has?
I don't know which one I am, but would like to type in the correct one. Even if it is pretty much pointless. :P

i love using the slowdown laser (aka homing laser)

stage 2 boss can be milked quite a bit at minimum pod strength, haven't figured out when it times out though

I've got the pcb with a single life bar. Is this the Intl version and is it more difficult than the version with lives?

Yes and yes. You might wanna consider a romswap, the int'l version is too unbalanced.
