Best version of mame that saves high scores

Apologies, my MS has got the better of me I've got a new PC on the way today and my old one is packed up and alive forgotten what UI is the best out there for saving game states for saves.

Please help.

All variants are equally good with savestates. I recommend the least hacked ones, such as MAMEUI and "command line" MAME possibly supplemented by HBMAME.

I think you need the hiscore.dat file to sit in your MAME folder.
