I for one am curious to see Raiden III DX if that gets secured. R-Gear has some video footage present, I've never heard of Raiden III DX and nothing pops up searching for it.

R-Gear
Raiden III DX
S.T.G special version
Daioh special version
...
Ok, after Vertexer and Distopia I thought Shou was already plenty awesome, but now I'm starting to suspect he's got some kind of super power that allows him to grab stuff from another dimension.

I wonder how that R-Gear prototype looks like... I'm guessing it's got to be made of placeholder graphics.

It's good to see so many protos being unearthed recently.

Combine this with the Unigame finds of last year, developer contributions etc. and we've seen some really interesting bits and pieces in recent times.

Very positive that it's ending up in the hands of people that are emulation friendly too, unlike the NeoGeo stuff in days gone by. The stuff no longer has any real commercial value, so it provides a very interesting snapshot into the development process, and what could have been.

As cool as Rayforce is, something that makes S.T.G. interesting at all is just wow... I wonder what it's about.

How complete are these protos? It would be cool if some of those especially Rayforce 1.5 had all their levels.

I'm super excited for the Daioh special version, and something to make S.T.G. interesting sounds worth playing. Athena <3

I'm not sure why, but the special versions interest me a little more than Gear. I'm a big fan of arrange modes I guess.

Is it premature to expect that R-Gear will be better than Storm or Crisis by virtue of being on a flat 2D plane instead of the weird wobble of the 3D games? It can't be that far-fetched.

R-Gear's been on my dream list ever since watching those grainy youtube videos of the demo. I hope that it has music, and that it is the RayForce sequel I've always wanted to play!

Mad, mad props to shou.

I think you could pretty much do ANYTHING to STG to make it more interesting (like replace the shot button with a kick to the nuts), so it will be amusing to see what comes of it.

While Raiden III DX interests me, I'm really charged up about R-Gear. This looks superior to RayStorm's PS1 hardware 3D graphics.

Taito should have kept the F3 going for a few more years, alongside the FX1.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

From that short video it seems like it's got the R-Gray 2 from RayStorm except the gameplay is similar to Rayforce (no locking onto enemies on the same plane) and the music sounds like an early version of "Geometric City".

What's odd is the R-Gray 1 in R-Gear seems to just be the standard homing laser type but the "R-Gear" ship in RayStorm HD has those funnel things as weapons instead...maybe that's a third ship they never added?

How's the gameplay of Daioh Special Version PCB?

And is it possible to convert the USA (American Sammy) version of Daioh PCB into a Special Version variant PCB?

It's a given that with a USA version of Daioh PCB, you can play the original JPN version with a 2-button scheme via a certain jumper + 2-pin header setup. Learning about this new-fangled Special Version does certainly pique my interest in it, indeed.

So Athena Co. had three diferent versions of Daioh to choose from/play with? Fascinating if that's the case here.

Yeah, that looks better than I expected but still bland. Looks like at the very least a lot of textures are missing

I honestly have no idea what you are talking about. Those clips look like they are from a finished product. Nothing looks placeholder, nothing looks missing.

Pretty thrilling stuff to get a "new" game from the peak of this 2d genre at a time when we're coming to the end/slowdown. That footage looks so much better than what I was expecting.

Not that it will ever end!
