Anyone know where I can get a mod chip installed on a ps2 slim in the UK? There are a million ps1 and ps2 import games I'd like to get but I in no way have the skills required to install a modchip.
The other option I guess is buying a Japanese and US ps2..... but that is just more stuff to clutter my house up. I'm sure it wasn't so difficult to find someone doing this when I got my original PS1 modded many years ago, there was some dodgy guy installing modchips on just about every street.

My advice is - find someone in continental Europe (former Eastern Bloc recommended, Italy taking second place) to do the job for you. Then your biggest cost should be the shipping.
Another advice - buy an already chipped console in one of the aforementioned. Again - shipping costs should be your biggest concern.
Bear in mind a chipped console stands above any region-locked unit in that you can run homebrew on it. Basically meaning one unit for the sake of EVERYTHING (undub and whatnot).

Why does he need to send his console to the former eastern bloc to get it chipped? You make it sound like it's some kind of post-cold war clandestine service.
I'm not familiar with UK services, but I've seen the slim modchips for sale online. I'd recommend posting on AO (arcadeotaku.com) which is predominantly UK members, most of whom are very familiar with tech stuff. Someone there might be able to install one for you.

Now I picture the back alley doctor from Ronin having a console mod station in his basement.Skykid wrote:Why does he need to send his console to the former eastern bloc to get it chipped? You make it sound like it's some kind of post-cold war clandestine service.
