Hello,

I'm the main gamedev at Pixelnest Studio and I would like to tease you a bit with our incoming game Steredenn:

Devblog:

If you're interested by the game development you may have a look at the devblog: http://steredenn-game.tumblr.com/

Here's some relevant posts:
- Drawing a space environment: http://steredenn-game.tumblr.com/post/9 ... nvironment
- Making an expandable laser in Unity: http://steredenn-game.tumblr.com/post/9 ... able-laser

We plan to release it before 2015 (or very early 2015), for iOS and Android first and probably on some other platforms (PS Vita? Windows Phone?).
We will probably be looking for beta testers before the release, I'll leave a message here if some are interested. :)

Also, please feel free to ask any question, I'll do my best to answer it.

Thanks for your time.

You forgot the gameplay

How will the game work? Is it the usual arcade 1cc-thing, or stages with no specific lives?

Looks pretty good, if not good! :3

Thanks :)

For the gameplay, we make a looping 1cc mode where you play until you die, doing the best score you can.

Each run is made of stages, and each stage is a combination of waves of enemies/traps + a boss.
Waves are selected randomly but hand-made (it's more interesting with some level design). Each stage as a unique boss.

Image

We have a fixed number of bosses always in the same order, so when you kill the last one the game loops and you start back at level 1 with surprises (new enemies, new available waves, bosses may changes, more points, overall harder).

You have a limited number of health points that are healed when you kill a boss.
Maybe the player should heal automatically over time... we haven't decided yet, we want a good challenge but not an impossible one. :)

This is our main gameplay but we're thinking of additional game modes (puzzles, boss rush, etc) derivating from this one.

(We wrote about this gameplay on the devblog: http://steredenn-game.tumblr.com/post/9 ... s-inside-1)

Okay, well, if the game really loops, make sure that it does not become too long! (> 40 minutes. Or maybe with this simplistic graphical style and wave-oriented gameplay, not longer than 20 minutes. Hopyefully. (Counting loops!))

Yes, loops should be quite short (10min?), especially as we're targeting mobile we want people to be able to play short sessions and still have fun (and score).
But we will make sure each loops draw new waves and brings surprises for the replay value. :)

Hello folks,

I forgot to update this thread, sorry, we've been really busy working on the game!

Image

So we have two major announcements:
- the game is coming in few months on Xbox One
- we're trying to be on PC too :)
(We launched a Greenlight page: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... =375439529)

(the mobile versoin targeted at first may be after, we now focus on the Xbox One opportunities)

The game has grown well and we're already happy with the current arcade feeling.
We reworked the weapon system for the player and it's much better now.

Some gifs that show our animations:

We still have a lot to do to have a complete game but we're on a good way!

I just picked this up on Xbox One when it released the other day, and it's a ton of fun. Definitely a curve ball in the world of shmups with the randomly generated nature, but it gives so much variety and makes you have to be a little quicker on your toes instead of just being able to memorize everything.

I've been recommending that everyone I know who like shmups or retro games give this a try, and having it on another platform now definitely makes it easier for people to check it out.
