fixed up the table a bit. gonna try and play this again maybe. unsure about the player speed thing. i forget what the warp is, it's probably something like what slap fight has so i'll have to ban it for consistency.

edit: yeah fuck you too toaplan

sorry for the bump, but i guess i finally figured out the dip situation.

the dips for the tiger-heli port are correct and match up with the arcade flyer. romstar's flyer for the us version has different dips which are more similar to what mame uses by default except you need to change difficulty from easy to hard.

so when using mame, please switch the dips for the japan and us romsets to the ones specified... a "mame" board would be silly.

Game over literally right before end of the loop. Frustrating.

Quite an interesting game. Not one I'd ever try to get good at (unlike Hishouzame, for example), achieving a quick clear was instructive, though. It can be incommensurably exasperating when you fly near a tank spawn position, thinking to yourself "I'll surely get the guy right away" but due to a bad shot interval the guy surely gets you - right in the face. I liked the personal aspect of it nonetheless, little tanks and turrets are always dastardly foes that are not to be underestimated in Toaplan games, yet decidedly so in this one.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you unfortunately have the wrong extend settings (20K and every 80K instead of 50K and every 120K) for the score table. I actually made this same mistake earlier today until I double checked the thread and subsequently spent the afternoon grabbing another scoring clear. If your other settings are the same though, I believe you would still hold the 3rd position in the table regardless since those extra lives didn't really come into play until after my final score.

Great catch (also congratulations on clearing a rather aggravating game)! Looks like I also had the "normal" speed setting for the heli instead of the "fast" one, that obviously only makes things harder, however.

Since I got curious now, I looked a few things up: ben.shinobi also used the extend setting I got (he didn't submit a score here, but got a counterstop; might be that he played the US version to begin with, considering that he usually (always?) uses the Japan version, that doesn't seem terribly likely, though). Kollision likewise had the same extend setting, but "fast" heli speed. This game truly is all over the place with its various settings.

Thanks, and aggravating is a pretty good description. After clearing the game with both speeds it really feels like the fast speed fits better with the design of the game. While it's still doable on the normal speed, some of the movements that you're expected to make feel viciously tight (especially with the little helis). It seems that many of us just used the defaults in MAME and the ports.

hi everyone here's 41 loops of tiger-heli
Despatche, just curious, what is this secret warp you speak of?

I will have to fire up my Playstation later and see if I can still handle this game. The part with two tanks in stage 4 has got to be sooooooooooooooooooooo much easier with autofire enabled.

It's like the one in Slap Fight, if you immediately die without shooting anything, you're sent forward to one of the 10,000 cars.

Oh shit, this game has the secret warp as well? I know about the ones in Slap Fight and Zero Wing (although I don't actually know how to do it in Zero Wing... time to set up the MiSTer and see if I can figure it out), but I didn't know that this game does as well. I do need to learn this game eventually.
