Unofficial ports/remakes
The likes of ChuChu Rocket! for Atari ST, Cannonball (PC port of the original OutRun engine), Streets of Rage Remake, Lumines, Goldrunner and Gorf (no auto-fire, sadly) for GBA. Full games rather than demos. Any other you'd recommend?
One more I just recalled - Boulder Dash (PC remake) - supposedly very faithful, it is Boulder Dash as I remember it (only sharper-looking).
I think OpenBOR remakes are technically mods, but I wouldn't know how much effort some of these took.
(Freeware Another World for GBA is actually official, endorsed by Chahi himself.)

Re: Unofficial ports/remakes
The unofficial Pac-Man Collection for Colecovision is nice. It was made using actual arcade code and it shows. There was also a space invaders collection from the same person.
2600 also got some Pac-Man love, including a couple 4k versions that managed to be technically better than the 8k Atari 800 version. Also for 2600 are some nice versions of Thrust, Juno First, Asteroids (Space Rocks), and Star Castle. Someone also made an impressive version of Boulderdash for it, but that one was official (no longer available, though).
7800 has nice remakes of Jr. Pac-Man, Scramble, Burgertime (Beef Drop), and Super Pac-Man.

Somebody on other forums mentioned RapeLay for GBC, but they might have just been being facetious...
I've been wondering if Xanadu for Sharp X68k is official. Never heard of it before I'd found a ROM. This is all I found about the publisher.

Mega Man 7 and 8 for PC are enjoyable. It's a shame that they didn't go ahead and do Forte as well.
Re: Unofficial ports/remakes
It was an emulator to play PSX games on the DC, not stand alone ports or remakes. The PSX discs were needed for it to run and the bleem discs were only for single games like Gran Torismo 2, MGS1, and Tekken 3.ACSeraph wrote:Does anyone know the story behind the Bleemcast stuff? I remember it being sold at normal stores like Target where I lived even though it was unofficial.
I heard there was an unofficial Lemmings port for DS that is supposed to be very good.
Someone finally made a version of DK for Intellivision that is closer to the arcade, along with a D2K that has levels inspiried by an arcade rom hack, along with the original levels. There's also an unofficial port of Moon Patrol for the system that looks impressive (Space Patrol). 2600 also got a couple new versions of DK, though one has only been released as a demo currently.
While it isn't a homebrew or a more recent release, Thin Ice on the Intellivision is based on the arcade game Disco No 1. Other than the graphical change, it's pretty much a direct conversion.

Elite series remakes
-Elite: The New Kind aka the first unofficial fanmade remake of Elite that was made for UNIX/Windows platform, has been taken down by request of David Braben himself
-Oolite: Modern remake of Elite, it's highly moddable despite remains faithful over the original
-Pioneer: An open source semi-remake of Frontier - Elite II. Plays similarly to Frontier with original contents, even it used to have F-E II ships in the earlier version (they were removed when David Braben announced Elite: Dangerous if I recall)
-GLFrontier: An attempt to port Frontier - Elite II to Windows/Linux using OpenGL
-JJFFE and FFED3D : Unofficial Windows port of Frontier: First Encounters while FFED3D is a hack/mod to totally revamp the graphics.

Re: Unofficial ports/remakes
It isn't a pirate game. Capcom granted Tec Toy the license to produce it for the Brazilian market, so it's still an official port.TwinBee Hypno wrote:For a pirate game Street Fighter II on Sega master system runs much better then most would think, It's actually rather faithful to the original for 8bits at least.
Re: Unofficial ports/remakes
Speaking of that, there were a few MSX And Sg-1000 remakes for the Colecovision, including Girl's Garden, Gulkave, Penguin Land, Ninja Princess, Pitfall II, and Sky Jaguar. CV actually got a couple official MSX ports with Anarctic Adventure and Cabbage Patch Kids (Port of Athletic Land. MSX Cabbage Patch Kids came later and has some graphical differences).TheRedKnight wrote:MSX remakes for the PC that I know of:

Downloaded some Elite remake years ago, but haven't mustered enthusiasm to confront it. Though I understand legends are only alive for as long as they keep getting retold.

Castlevania: Spectral Interlude for ZX Spectrum! More of a fangame/hybrid than a port but it's very impressive:

It's not out, but I'm pretty sure there's newer screens/footage that's more colourful. Not a Spectrum fan, really, but it's impressive all the same.

Re: Unofficial ports/remakes
There is an unofficial port of Fix it Felix Jr for the md/genesis. If only someone would port the flagship of this classic arcade series.
Re: Unofficial ports/remakes
Someone did a Fix it Felix Sr. for the 2600, but it's still based on that Fix it Felix Jr. game. Hopefully, the next Wreck it Ralph will show the original Fix it Felix and have another game promoting it.antron wrote:There is an unofficial port of Fix it Felix Jr for the md/genesis.
