A short essay & afternoon tea discussion on Social Justice

Post by Skykid »

So we can no longer enjoy the best of the best of Social Justice Warriors, but we are entitled (debate entitlement!) to discuss the topic.

To continue your odyssey into the realms of stupidness, visit WTF Social Justice - The best of Social Justice where I trawled for most of my resubmissions in Moh's memorable thread.

Now I'm going to exert my journalistic privilege and be essayist.

The Poetic Ironies of the Social Justice Hate Movement

Trawling the above site and other Tumblr pages for decent cherry picks you form a comprehensive overview of today's rebellious society. It used to be the Sex Pistols and punk movements, now it's a regressive form of PC proclamation from the confines of bedrooms for people who feel the world owes them something they should not have to earn.

Let's just put that in perspective: being young is difficult. Hormonally you're all messed up and coming of age can be difficult for both sexes (and all those non-science based SJW ones too). There are challenges ahead. Everyone bends under the pressure, and some actually fold. Folding isn't necessarily bad at early stages, you can always pick yourself back up and head back out for a second crack at the whip - it's only bad if you turn to the internet for compassion, where leagues of folders welcome you with open arms into their wallowing self-pity and veiled self-loathing.

It's a hard world. Bowing out under the pressure is not a cause for victory. Slapping each other on the back and saying 'you're beautiful even if you're morbidly obese with a greatly reduced prognosis for life expectancy', or 'you don't need to go outside and interact with people because you'll likely be a victim of the patriarchy' is conceding defeat. Becoming socially independent is a process of character development. You do not need to run with the crowd, but there's an educational aspect to social development that helps round your character and shape your future, whatever it is you choose to do. This is why people like Anita Sarkeesian have a platform and a level of respect, but Social Justice Warriors have nothing but each other.

To be clear, I'm certainly not against social justice. On the contrary, and especially in economic and political terms, I'm all for that even playing field we're never going to get. But what I find deplorable is the flagrant prejudice and genderist nature of Social Justice Warriors, amongst all their other ridiculously boneheaded claims.

Feminism is one thing that has always stood on its own. But feminism, although often perceived to be, does not demand that men be brought to their knees and flogged, nor does it rally for males to be brought to justice. It simple demands equality of the sexes.

Reading the SJW posts the one thing that tallies amongst all the different types of looneys is a crazy irrational sexism. Extreme feminists, Otherkin, Headmates (or 'head cases' as I prefer), Ableists, Demisexuals, Transgender, Dysphoric, Fictive, PoC (non-white people, basically), Queer, Therian, Transabled, Transethnic, all tow the same line: White males are an enemy.

Cisgendered refers to a person whose sexuality and gender are aligned, or straight heterosexuals.

These are considered to be demon spawn. If you're white, even worse, and if you're a white male, you are Satan incarnate.

Image

The upshot is that the SJW online movement is becoming precisely what it preaches against. But where nearly everything they pine for is a perversion of more justified realities with an exaggeration factor to bolster their backward self-help therapy, it is in-fact a hate movement.

Being a white cisgendered male is to be a victim of prejudice, racism and aggression at the hands of people supposedly calling for 'social justice'. You are born innocent, but you are classed by these people as a member of an oppressive patriarchy possessing dangerous and damaging sexual needs, unable to offer anything meaningful to anyone outside of your own kind (i.e. females or any other kind of pronoun adopting lunatic).

It's irony at it's very best. A united peoples supposedly brought together in support, eventually becoming the aggressor, abandoning all reasoning in favour of hatred fuel. They have become, collectively, the very thing they sought to fight against.

TL;DR

Being a Cisgendered heterosexual white male with a thing for asian girls, I must say I had a bit of a shock today when looking at the person responsible for almost 600 pages of SJW shaming and incredibly witty, curt, but informed responses. And that's not because she's a woman, but because she's irresponsibly cute.

And being a hetero cisgendered male, it's my privilege to say so.

Skykid, most of the outrageous Tumblr posts are either satirical, or made by hyper-emotional teens.

Let them vent in peace already.

I'm not worried about hyper-emotional teens, it's more the RADFEM contingent who are influencing those teens to form a sexist/genderist byproduct against white straight people. I think it's an interesting irony considering the concept of SOCIAL JUSTICE is to eradicate any injustice. Yet undue prejudice against someone for their colour, gender, or sexual orientation is exactly the thing they're creating.

Don't mind me, I was just thinking out loud and decided to post a short form analysis of my SJW surfing. Does not need to be discussed if it's not of interest, I didn't pose any questions or anything. But System11 said discussion is fine and my friend and poster RupertH said in Moh's thread that he would be interested in discussing aspects of 'social justice' in a practical sense, so... here's the thread for that. ;)

Interesting and probably true. You're basically saying that everything is being flipped on its head. The previous norm being subverted. I can definitely see the UK Media doing exactly that.

I'd say don't feed the trolls.

People hating the majority will always exist. This topic almost sounds apologetic. Where's your self-confidence that tells you to not give a fuck?

The topic becomes interesting however, as soon as politics get involved. I wouldn't spend too much time reading random gurls' blogs on the internet though. I feel like I constantly need a dictionary to understand nowadays' sexuality. And I thought sex was about fun in the first place.

Actually I've seen some fairly mature people in their mid-late 20s who still believe in that "power+prejudice=discrimination" bullshit(yes, this is apparently taught in classes and some colleges are full of this social justice crap)
Not that these degrees will get them anywhere except burger flipping, so it's cool

Many of the self portrait images I came across on my search through the SWJ wunderlands were of adult/middle aged women.

Come now Plasmo, when have I ever given a fuck? :)

Just a talking point.

Yes, I can't see it any other way. It's literally become an army of people hating a specific type of person for characteristics they have no control over: which is absurd, since they're the same sympathies SJWs plead for when they adopt their own sexual identities.

Most crazy of all is that the contingent seems hugely racist. White people are targeted because of the colour of their skin.

I can't see values of empathy, indifference, or universal acceptance in this, yet that's exactly what they demand!

Plasmo, if you want a perfect example of when politics get infected by the whole SJW thing just take a look at our political climate over here in Sweden.
5 of 8 governmental parties officially support the modern feminist idea and have policies based around the concept of social injustice.

I say they're all fucking retarded.
Their problem formulation and solution give a false result from the outset.
The only way to create an egalitarian society without injustice is to treat every single human being the same (according to law and policies) independent of sex, race, religion, political affiliation, whathaveyou...
These PC-people think society will 'balance itself out' if you either grant more privileges to groups that have previously been treated badly or simply discriminate against groups that appear to be privileged to you.
All this will lead to is continuing a circle (jerk) of hatred and discrimination that will only grow bigger and stronger as it gets more and more twisted and corrupt.

Summa summarum; people are retarded. Nothing new there.

@Eaglet, well said.

Was it Sweden who had the gender free preteen schooling that encouraged the swapping of toys and clothes? And the gender study institute that wasted millions of taxpayers money before a TV investigation proved they had achieved nothing and were closed down?

I know it was some Scandinavian locale, but I can't remember which.

maybe i am living in a cave but i thought the whole point of "Die Cis Scum" was to simply role reverse : to put the boot on the other foot. To show what happens when you have opinion / hate for a group of people based on something they have no control over.

I , personally, thought it was effective - the general reaction was "wtf!? why is this person so angry!? being CIS is "normal" and i can't control that and..."

"Die CIS scum" forced people to feel what it would be like to be unduly discriminated against in the same manner when it is , frankly, no one elses business. It's almost impossilbe to simulate but DCS was incredibly potent in bringing that through to people regardless of how you reacted. Here is someone who wants me to die simply because i was born a certain way? It's a powerful statement.

As a piece of political commentary i thought it was an absolute master class and if you were offended by it? Good - that was the point.

My brother is now a lesbian and a feminist, apparently. Somehow he now believes the plight of women over the last few centuries applies to him, overnight. I would be much more willing to accept these things if he weren't a total asshole white knight crusader having regressed in maturity by at least a decade since this began. His girlfriend is even worse, and has corrupted him. Kind of like a person who indoctrinates and converts someone to christianity causing the victim to lash out at all of their friends and family over injustices regarding their lifestyle and belief system that they considered fine one year prior.

He lashes out at me regarding the shmups I play saying they are misogynistic and hateful towards women because of the anime girls on the boxes, despite him playing Manhunt and GTA, and being obsessed with gore-horror movies. Perhaps you may think I am a bigot for saying "He" and speaking negatively about his new-found lifestyle, but trust me it is a lot more difficult when it occurs in your immediate family and the person treats you and your parents like shit, whilst demanding their medical treatment be payed for by us. If he were a nice person I would not be bothered by this, I don't think he deserves my acceptance when he doesn't respect anyone who doesn't share his new-found belief system, which is pretty much everyone.

If that was the original intention I don't know, but I'm damn sure it's no longer satirical if it ever was. The message has spread to the far reaches of online social justice and become an institutional banner.

I have no problem with satire, but in this case it appears to be some kind of sci-fi fiction where a good intention has been misunderstood and the teachings taken in a literal, dangerous sense.

I have no problem with satire, but in this case it appears to be some kind of sci-fi fiction where a good intention has been misunderstood and the teachings taken in a literal, dangerous sense.

the issue with everything in terms of opinion is that there is always going to be a big fat pie chart range of angles and each one will gather noise and prominance either of it's own accord or because the media likes angle A or B etc etc.

I am absolutely sure you are right that there are people who have taken it at face value and now have a "CIS scum must die" attitude - but this is the cross section you'll get on anything. The real middle of this issue isn't -that- controversial - it's just being blown up to be by certain people repeating certain angles. It's meaning that a reasonable outcome to this (i.e. Ah it's none of my fucking business, let people get on with it) isn't possible - it's just another means to divide people on lines that are largely irrelevant.

People should be out in the streets rioting, but not over this shit.

Too many acronyms for me. Even the term CIS confused me.. partially because when I read what it meant... I thought "nah, Skykid wouldn't be passionate about this subject to start a thread".. Would he?

Well you have.. surprisingly. Must be a lot of people in the world "derailing" their lives.

I agree about the wallowing self pity club. When I divorced I went to such a place and within 12 hours jumped the fuck out again.

Oh Amen to that.

Listen, don't get me wrong. I've at no point decided this needs a platform for discussion that takes it seriously. It's so utterly extreme it's impossible to do so. And that's really the talking point: the extreme. That's what I'm interested in taking apart.

This is another new arm of the phenomenon that is the internet. The web has collected a new breed into a broad cul de sac of misguided borderline maniacs.

It's fascinating.

I am a thirtysomething white male and I despise everything that has to do with political correctness. These days, the only people that can be verbally attacked/mocked without any real consequences whatsoever (the mob will instead share a hearty laugh - just look at pathetically left wing/liberal forums like neogaf for a snippet) are redheads, fat people and especially white males (especially christians/catholics). That's the way things are now, it's pathetic.

Oh, and the main culprits? Young white males! Their pandering to sexual minorities, faiths other than christianity and ethnic minorities is astounding, their self-hate a thing to behold. (Before anyone asks, I hate myself too: for letting go of SNES Hagane for $15 five years ago. :P)

I'm as fed up with wannabe-social justice people (keyword: wannabe), but holy shit nosorrow, what is this, stormfront news or something? "Pandering to minorities and non-christians". Oh, the horror.

FWIW, I find a lot of online feminism to be a pretty affluent, white, and straight viewpoint to a fault. It makes it also seem that feminism is a monolithic viewpoint when in fact there's a lot of debate within feminism.

I cant agree 100% with everything else you've said, but I have noticed this has become huge lately. Maybe it's just my geographical location, but the younger white guys I meet are the most self-loathing, "all things Japanese are superior" lot you could imagine. EVERYTHING from western countries sucks, and anything foreign when introduced is immediately "exotic", or "made better", etc.. I can't understand whats driving this..? It's almost exactly opposite of older Japanese men that I meet who believe that all things from America are superior... Music, jeans, movies, food, etc. and are down on their own culture. Maybe it's a generational thing that runs in cycles, because its seems to affect people that are either quite a bit older or younger than myself.

Yes, I came out strong but the essence of my message still stands. White liberal guilt is one of the most incomprehensible things I have ever seen. But yeah, I feel I have much more in common with people my own age (regardless of age, sex and race) than the younger generation of suburban white kids who've been spoonfed the gloriousness of multiculturalism and positive discrimination. Anyways, I'm a contrarian by nature, so if society were the other way around, there's a fair chance I would be still be complaining. :)

P.S. louisg: I don't know what stormfront news is (I assume a right wing news outlet). Anyways, I don't follow the media anymore - haven't been for a few years - and I feel better for it.

Everyone just thinks the grass is greener on the other side.

Because if the other side is as shit as this side, then there is no hope right?

The reality is that shit grows on both sides of the fence in all that green grass.

From what I've seen and experienced firsthand, tumblr brand social justice is just an evolutionary fusion of the deviantart and riot grrl scenes. White female art school dropouts who, when faced with the responsibilities of adulthood, lash out in a fit of mindless attention seeking behavior based on whatever the trending topic of the day is as a proxy for receiving emotional support for their own first world problems that they know they'd get called out on.

Much like what generally happened on Deviantart in the '00s, desperate guys have widely latched onto bending over and embracing the flogging as a path to the female attention they would never get otherwise, perpetuating the delusion of the women.

Nicely put.

On the topic of equality of the sexes, I have a cute anecdote.

Last Friday I'm in the arcade playing Aero Fighters 2 and I get a phone call at 8pm from a female friend. She's trashed on Baijiu (Chinese spirits) and asks me to come and drink with a group of business people. I'm not in the mood as I slept about three minutes the previous night, but my conscience knowing that she's planning to drive her fucking car home forces me into a taxi to make sure she doesn't.

Downtown she meets me outside the restaurant staggering about in six inch heels. She starts shouting in the middle of the parking lot, people looking on, before asking me to wait while she finishes her 'business meeting' (it is, believe it or not, actually a business meeting.)

I sit outside for an hour before she comes back surrounded by old men grabbing her tits and ass (business associates). After two guys try to manhandle her across the parking lot that I manage to break up with my very basic Chinese, she then tells me they're going to KTV to drink beer and would I mind waiting outside until she's finished. I refuse because I don't understand what it is I'm waiting for and tell her she's getting in a taxi and going home... underestimating her drunken willpower to overpower anything I say. She then tells me she's driving me home. After 30 minutes arguing I get in her car, life flashing before my eyes, and attempt to buckle her seatbelt four times while being pushed away. So instead I buckle my seatbelt and prepare to die. She only nearly kills us twice on the way back, me repeating "go slow" in Chinese for a full twenty minutes, exiting the car and saying a prayer for her safety.

The next day I'm pissed. I get invited to dinner where she happens to be because we share a circle of friends. Someone asks me why we're not talking and I explain I would like a simple apology. Eventually I confront her, explaining I don't mind her being drunk, it happens, but she had treated me pretty badly. She looked really embarrassed before eventually saying "so?" (Not like a sarcastic western 'so', more like 'so what do you want me to do now?')

Next day I explained on mobile messaging (Weixin/we chat) that a simple apology goes a long way, and I couldn't understand the issue. She meets me later in the afternoon and immediately says sorry and hugs me in public - and you know that's some sincere shit because no-one hugs anyone in public in China, friends or lovers alike.

Later I tell her I appreciate the apology at which point she explains the reason she hugged me was because she couldn't look me in the eyes when apologising.

Digging deeper I'm informed that Chinese women never, ever apologise to men. It's a serious no-no. She said it was one of the most difficult things she's ever had to do, she hasn't apologised to anyone for anything - ever - but swallowed her pride because I'm foreign. But in China men always needs to apologise, no matter what.

12 years of being in a relationship with a Chinese girl and I suddenly get hit with a moment of clarity.

Now I'm not saying that China isn't a patriarchal society. It is. There are cultural differences and degrees of power between both sexes. Ultimately men still hold the greatest sway, but women have their own special brand of entitlement: they get all their shit paid for, they raise kids and should never have to work, entering marriage means they should be bought a house by the groom (not always possible, but this is a common demand of the girl's parents) and they never, ever have to say sorry.

TL;DR:

The purported gulf of inequality between the sexes is certainly not unfounded, but it does exist in countless shades of grey, and global cultural beliefs affect the sexes differently. In the middle east chicks get stoned for bad language, in China they can totally fuck up someone's day and are entitled to never have to apologise for it purely on the basis of being female.

I wonder how long it will take for this whole scene to eat itself. I mean, it's a bad sign when statements made in earnest can be readily confused with satire, but more than that I think there are a lot of people who may be sympathetic to the causes that are turned off by the atmosphere. These people just go apeshit over even the slightest transgression. Anyone who shows a sign of ideological impurity or has the misfortune to use a forbidden word is strung up and stoned in social justice circles. I know I've posted this here before, but the Nation had an interesting article about the climate of internet feminism, and more recently a writer at the Dish penned a similar article about online social liberalism generally. In these intertube days, it is incredibly easy to throw words like racist/homophobic/etc around and once you get something like that thrown at you it's pretty hard to shake off, regardless of the veracity of the claim. Look at what the Fine Young Capitalists had to go through when Zoe Quinn accused them of being transphobic and exploitative.
After the launch, it became extremely difficult to engage with an audience, because if you searched for our name especially on Twitter, then you will find long series of comments about how exploitative we were. Because of the number of tweets and retweets these search results bled into Google. More over, the original Twitter storm spread into many communities. We had a difficult time engaging with video game design communities, inevitably being called scam artists and often our threads were closed without specific reasoning as to why.

It's easy to say they're just a bunch of venting emotional teenagers or only represent a minority of liberals, but the loudest, whiniest groups can become the most visible on the internet and god help you if you become one of their targets.
Feedback will set you free.

You don't think situations just like your story aren't happening every single night across the Western world?

"With great power comes great responsibility" logically also means "With no power comes no responsibility."

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the feminist movement is incomplete. Once upon a time Aldous Huxley predicted a future where people will live under totalitarian dictatorships, but would actually love it, thanks to advanced psychological technology used by the oppressors. What he didn't realize was that 10,000 years of meme evolution had already created that for women. Women are implicitly told by society their whole lives that her life is some man's responsibility. First it's Daddy, then it's Hubby. Whatever mess she makes, it's up to that man to clean it up. What's not articulated is the fact that it implicitly makes her that man's property. The final victory of the feminist movement won't be a change in the actions of white men, like a cleansing of the media environment, it'll be a mental emancipation of women.

Her ability to shirk responsibility is not something to be jealous of, it's the gold plating on the psychological chains 'round her neck.

Skykid, forget culture, stop being wishy-washy with this girl. If you're going to assume responsibility for her safety, take command. If you want her to run her own life, her safety is her own responsibility. By taking responsibility for her safety, but letting her drunk ass be in charge of the situation, you got the worst possible outcome. Your night was ruined, and she was in just as much danger of dying in a drunken wreck, only now you were in danger as well. Chances are she was testing you, anyway.
Two working class dudes, one black one white, just baked a tray of ten cookies together.

An oligarch walks in and grabs nine cookies for himself.

Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

I've said this before, the next major war will be women against men.

Hmm, definitely a case of you had to be there I think!

When intoxicated to that special degree just beyond the realm of all reason she's a force of nature. Like an anti-superhero who's angelic during sober hours and cyclonic under the influence of baijiu. Taking control was the intention, but short of physical assault I was plum out of ideas.

Keep in mind I went out on a wing to be both gentlemanly and to avoid her potential death behind the wheel. I'm not sure why you thought she might be 'testing me'? She was just plain ruined.
