Spent my savings for the PS3 on shooters
Very true, but that can be said of 90% of games. Every Madden sells like hotcakes but everybody knows that every Madden depreciates to 10% of its original retail value and <1% of its original demand in under 5 years.mirkvid wrote:funny thing is, 10 years from now, those saturn games will still in demand but the 360 games won't!
This is an interesting point. I suppose it's still too early to get a sense of what titles from the current generation are going to have any sort of collector's value in the coming years, but my sense is that the list of games from the PS2/Xbox/GCN generation with staying power in the coming years is going to be rather small. You'll have the A-list titles (stuff like the Halos, Gran Turismos and Metroid Primes) that will still be well regarded in the future, but will not be particularly difficult to find owing to their popularity. You'll also have the few niche games with some desirability to gamers outside of the mainstream (stuff like the Cave PS2 releases). These may retain their value reasonably well, but this will still be among a fairly limited audience. To be honest, does anyone really see much of anything in the current generation of consoles that is going to have any significant collectors value ten years down the road?
It is for this reason that I tend to moderate my purchases from the current generation, and if I don't care much for a game I'll generally get rid of it quickly to get as large a portion of my purchase price back as possible (I can always pick it back up cheap later on if I want...) I really should consider getting a Gamefly subscription to take care of this. I'd probably save money in the long run by doing that instead of buying games that end up gathering dust...

Considering there have been no real valuable games for this generation even though stuff like DBGT was already hitting 100 by the same time and quite a few JP SS games were topping 100, I'm guessing there haven't been anything too valuable. Sure, some stuff might stay around retail value but there hasn't been any highly in-demand games.Vexorg wrote:To be honest, does anyone really see much of anything in the current generation of consoles that is going to have any significant collectors value ten years down the road?

Good move on buying the good shmups.
I'm still playing the Sega Genesis game like right now. I could really care less about the new stuff (and all my brainless pervert friends thinks I'm crazy for playing the old shit and not the new graphics shit like that).
Now I got a Sega CD, time to get me some games.

I find all gaming to be recycled these days.
Shmups will never die because the fundamental skills decide wether you can or you can't. The fact that most of them use primitive looking graphics is testament to their gameplay credentials after all these years.
I've never completely beaten a shmup
Gaming is most fun when its easy to pick up, hard to master! Not wether the developer crunched 32 gig of data onto a DVD9.

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
They also said the PS2 could guide a missile. God forbid someone thinks of relaunching the SDI project by hooking it up to X-box live.Guardians Knight wrote:Nice one mate, you might want to check out the original donpachi too.
i know a programmer for a U.K. games dev and he says the ps3 is 10x as powerful as the xbox360 - just a useless bit of info there.

Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.
