Based on my minimal experience with Dragon Blaze, so far, I'm gonna rank it higher than Gunbird 2. More unique, similar in most of the ways that make GB2 awesome, Less annoying scoring (not that I'd be likely to play either game intensively for score), and slightly shorter length by a few minutes per loop. Also, Zero Gunner 2 might be a contender. Those who have played have liked it quite a bit, it seems, but I can't speak for it, personally.

SNK: Prehistoric Isle ???
SNK - NeoGeo: Shooting Collection ???? What the hell is that anyway ?
Nobody ever played SNK here ?
Best SNK shmup is by far Last Resort (for me) and usually Blazing Star is mentionned as most popular. Viewpoint is made by SAMMY, otherwise I would have put it first choice.

In terms of quality I think you're absolutely right. In terms of popularity though it would probably be one of the Gradius games.1983parrothead wrote:This isn't based on my opinion, it's what I think would win in most people's opinions.

A shitty average compilation of a random mash up of whatever made by SNK PLAYMORE for PSP, released in 2010, being the best Shmups by SNK ? I'm shocked and this is insulting the Neo-Geo.
Let's be serious, you can't be for real right ? Did you come up with this yourself or you saw those results on a US forum dominated by douchebags owner of horrible Mame cabs ?
Yes i'm a bit harsh but this is disgraceful
PS: SNK Playmore ain't SNK anyway

I'm with 83 here if Xexex is the Japanese original.Blinge wrote:I'd love to hear your rationale for this one..1983parrothead wrote:

The Japanese Xexex is great. Now the other territories' version is not so hot, because all the weapons were yanked except for Proton Laser and it has a health bar that can be drained almost instantly.
Kinect? KIN NOT.
Re: Best Shmups by Each Company
I think I remember seeing MOSS listed as the developer for NeoGeo Heroes Ultimate Shooting. Game looks similar to Skystage, which is also included, so I wouldn't be surprised in the least.

If the OP opens one more thread in shmups chat this week does he win a prize or something?

There are too many manufacturers who only put out one or two shooters, so by default they're the best ones they did...

- Neo Geo Heroes: Ultimate Shooting is based off of KOF Sky Stage, which was developed by Moss.1983parrothead wrote:SNK - NeoGeo: Shooting Collection

- CAP didn't develop either of the Thunder games; that can be verified on their website.
- The Psyvariar series was developed by Skonec, not Success.

You know, despite Prehistoric Isle and Last Resort having wildly different themes, they've got a similar gameplay approach. Last Resort does improve your craft's pod; it'd be a dream hack come true to swing the Prehistoric Isle one instantly into any position.-S.L- wrote:SNK: Prehistoric Isle ???

But that thematic difference makes the first game stand out more from the crowd. Last Resort's a competent take on the R-Type theme, but I see that kind of stuff every R-Type game anyway. Aren't too many dinosaur horis, especially ones that pull off the tribute to old dinos-as-monsters movies so well.
Even aside from the theme, I think Prehistoric Isle's stages are more exciting. Last Resort's have very nice backgrounds, but Prehistoric Isle's have multi-direction scrolling and usually two bosses each.
As for Blazing Star, that's an Aicom/Yumekobo game... the same guys who developed Prehistoric Isle 2, come to think of it.

Re: Best Shmups by Each Company
Sounds like most of you would judge by the specific developer on good games while judging by the publisher on bad games.
Re: Best Shmups by Each Company
Where did this come from? I didn't get that impression at all. More like there is some confusion over who the developer is for some games.1983parrothead wrote:Sounds like most of you would judge by the specific developer on good games while judging by the publisher on bad games.

You're missing Triangle Service (of which I couldn't decide the best shmup, but going from the 10th Anniversary release DeltaZeal AKA G-Stream G2020).
Also, I dispute the Tecno Soft listing. TF V is good but I didn't think it was rated higher than even III let alone IV here.

Ya. TFIV's the big swingin' dick round these here parts. For good reason! Gradius Gaiden pwns XEXEX in the Konami consensus, too. >>FACT ZONE<<BPzeBanshee wrote:Also, I dispute the Tecno Soft listing. TF V is good but I didn't think it was rated higher than even III let alone IV here.
I think in my opinion Hyper Duel (Saturn ver) is their best game overall. Concise, ranky, explodey, stylistically blazin' and hawt Macross transformer blastin' with Assault Suits Valken strafin'. + MAD COLLECTOR CRED
