Well, I went ahead and subbed to most of the channels on the General Youtube Shmup Video thread. I suppose then, that this thread is mostly a callout to the channels fairly dedicated to STG.

Thanks a lot Icarus and others for the mentions of channels. Pretty much any channels that have a decent amount of STG content, active or not. This includes player's YT channels, definitely. Not everything will fit a defined mold when we have personal channels in the mix, but it's how it goes.

Though, I think I will seperate the player's channels from the others.

Made a final-ish update to the list. Still looking for any player channels that have a lot of STG content, otherwise if a channel was left out I felt like it was too sparse of STG stuff. And instead they are subscribed by the STGW channel. Cheers! I know I have some stuff to watch now >_>

Is this where I can shamelessly self promote my videos?: https://www.youtube.com/user/RealPegboy

Most of them are SHMUP playthroughs, although there is some other stuff in there too.

All my videos are done on real hardware, so there's no save-states, TAS, emulators, cheating, or any of that crap. All of them are 1CC runs, usually on the highest difficulty the game has. Mostly Gradius stuff for now, but will be moving on to different series after I finish Gradius V.

I'm more referring to the use of save-states and people posting "tool assisted" runs, like 90% of the junk you see on youtube (world of longplays for instance). Emulators are fine as long as you don't cheat and explicitly state what you are using.

World of Longplay and anything listed as "longplay" in general is either TAS, or explicitly not meant to showcase skill. Longplays exist to show off the game itself, not to demonstrate any kind of skill.

I have a few shooters on my YT channel now: R-Type/Hyper Dual/Gradius/Pulatar and a few others, mainly arcade focused. I used to use original PCBs but I have recently gone to the dark side of emulation with GroovyMame+CRT_Emudrivers (amazing!) I film the cab when I play though so I can prove there is no funny business with re-records, states or other emulation tricks.

Since when did longplay mean "tool assisted"? I get the idea of showing off the game, but they should at least state that it's tool assisted in the replay. It's sad that it had to get to that point, I pretty much just assume it's tool assisted/cheating unless it's explicitly stated otherwise.

Because the aim is to show what the gameplay looks like, it's not someone claiming to be good at the game or achieve anything. Most games are laughably easy in comparison to shmups, I woudn't brag about half the games i've ever played to completion.
Say someone 'cheats' to finish Castlevania on NES and uploads the video claiming it was their gameplay.. they don't gain anything from doing so, there's no point.
For that reason I think only a fraction of youtubers are "cheating" as you say.

Guess I'll add myself to this list since this thread is apparently back from the grave.

Shmups and animation stuff. Separated by playlist but yeah, it's all in there.

Also it would really be great to have this and the STG stream index thread consolidated and stickied as a reference.

And before anyone says anything yes, I do know that this thread is linked in the "Threads of Excellence" sticky. I just think that it would be more useful and immediately accessible if this and the stream thread were consolidated and listed as a single sticky.

All I'm saying is the people posting these tool assisted videos need to make it more obvious. A huge portion of the comments on these videos are either:

1) This guy is cheating!
or
2) This guy is amazing!

If it was obvious what was going on you wouldn't get either of these types of comments, yet they are everywhere.

Well alright, it's just most of the longplays I've seen that aren't labeled as a TAS are credit fed and awful play.
