I can try asking him. I'm not sure if bullet hell shmups are his genre of choice, though.

Cool Blackbird, glad to hear that you'll be helping out Yotsubane. I need to get back on the game when I get some time...

As far as other shooting communities in English:

GAF's shooter thread:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=387185

The Crimzon Clover OT:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=828691

AFAIK for the EU there's:

http://shmup.com

and

http://www.triggerzone.de/

Probably a few others floating out there...

If it counts as a community, http://www.twitch.tv/effinslowbeef has been streaming shmups lately to a 150-200 viewer audience each time.

Good to see it's doing so well, curious as to where else this will lead though (perhaps a new arrange gamemode?)

As well as uploading them on youtube later.

That's a good idea. I'll have to drop by slowbeef's twitch channel and see if I can catch him streaming sometime.

Regarding an arrange mode, I haven't heard anything about that specifically. Yotsubane is continuing to patch the game and iron out bugs, though. We do have some other things planned but I can't talk about them really until they actually happen.

Anyway, its cool that you're in the position to do this, sounds like a fun job.

Mark from Classic Game Room HD would LOVE to play this if he knew about it: he's very keen on shmups and reviews them very frequently.

Also I think the game could benefit from more distribution platforms: GOG, Desura, Playism, XBLA, PSN, eShop, etc. As much as I'd like a physical release with no DRM, that probably isn't too viable for this kind of game in a western market.

I'm surprised Destructoid hasn't said anything about Crimzon Clover; as far as mainstream sites go they seem to have a healthy interest in shmups.

Release the game in physical form for console, make a regular edition, and a nice limited edition in Cave style so that people who want to throw money on Yotsubane can do so: soundtrack discs plus artbook or even stickers, and charge a price for it that will make it worth for him and Degica. I'd buy the game in physical form just to support his work, even if it came out on a console I don't own yet. PS4 might be a good target, since it's x86 architecture and more powerful than the Xbone (that's a fact, not a console fanboi statement).

I know there are financial risks involved, but to fully offset it, Degica could do something similar to what the creators of Class of Heroes 2 did: get X pre-orders, and only if that goal is reached, produce the game. Or do a kickstarter.

All it takes is a dedicated fanbase, and a publisher smart enough to target all segments of the market. Look what Cave did with SDOJ: Super Limited, Limited, and Regular Edition. They surely made the most profit off the Super Limited, followed by the Limited version. Also note that the regular version had a very plain cover, possibly to entice fans to spring for the more expensive editions. If that was too specific for you, think of books released as hard cover and later as softcover. The production cost of the hardcover edition is not much larger than the softcover, yet it costs three or four times as much at retail.

I'll inquire about a console port. I know there were several people interested in a physical release of the game even before this. Releasing a game on physical media has a lot more risk than a digital release though, because there are more production costs involved. Yotsubane would probably need to make new art for the packaging and any limited edition extras, as well.

Could World Ignition be released on any non-Steam download services (console or PC), or is Degica's vested financial interest in selling Steam vouchers to Japanese customers preventing this?

Whoa, you -really- want a console port ^_^;. My boss tells me that they have released boxed games before, so it is theoretically possible. They are looking at releasing the game on other platforms, but I can't confirm them yet because it's not finalized.

Do you even play shmups!? ;P

Of course we want a physical release. I probably wouldn't buy one for PC, though, because it would be tied to Windows. But part of the genre is to display your collection nicely, unlike AAA games which you plough through in 6 to 8 hours and forget.
