Saving them is actually a thing you don't want to do since you get points when your helper planes are shot down and none for keeping them alive.
Yeah, I noticed that. Helper planes firepower is still a good thing to have - just make sure they're gone before the next pickup. (Don't know if the game will or won't spawn another H pickup if you still have planes.)

Well, it's a Toaplan-like.

On Hard this is related to my major gripe - recoveries are really quite impossible, so the game is really about playing on one life.

But that's the way you're supposed to play most Toaplan games, too.

I like how the difficulty level settings don't screw around - each one feels perfect.

Btw, I have not checked it this was reported already, but there seem to be some precision errors in this when it comes to the tile placement. It happens in levels, but is most noticable in the landing sequence, where you will get vertical lines, where what I assume are the tiles, because gfx are lagging behind or are moved at some slightly off increment.

Cheers boss (and to you LordHypnos).

EDIT: Really letting my east London home come through with using 'boss' there. Consider yourself lucky trap15; I normally save 'cheers boss' for takeaway delivery drivers, the guys at my local cafe, and the staff at my local shops. You're in great company.

In Flying Shark, dying too many deaths at the same checkpoint bumps to back to an earlier one IIRC, you also have bombs to help you get back in the saddle.

The bombs here don't make much of a dent on the big planes at the start of the water stage, unfortunately. Well, their explosion pattern is kind of small / delayed compared to a traditional shmup bomb, which makes them seem awkward to me.

IIRC, I think that's also the case in Twin Cobra, which is probably why, but I might be thinking of Raiden Trad...

The bomb here looks very similar to Flying Shark's, but that game's bomb deploys and expends its energy quicker. Not sure about the relative damage output against big targets; I just checked the speed by quickly playing the first stage. Oh, the Flying Shark bomb seems to cover more of the screen (though it's still small compared to many other shmup bombs).

It's easy to miss, but if you hold the bomb button in Twin Tiger Shark, the bomb travels further on the screen.

That's definately a thing in some genesis shmup that I played, but I can't remember which one. It was either Fire Shark, Twin Cobra, or Raiden Trad... could be more than one, actually, too.

I didn't notice that, although that arguably does nothing to help allay my concern, since it's a mechanism for delaying bomb detonation further...I imagine there may be cases where a person wishes to shoot-and-scoot, but generally I expect that players using the relatively fast movement speed will just position themselves correctly unless they are bombing into a dense fire screen. So it can be useful - but the bomb itself definitely seems to take more effort from the player to use effectively, and even then it doesn't seem as effective as in Flying Shark (on unadjusted difficulty level versus, say, Hard in TTS).

Late to this but thank you for the PC version, love how the music has little bits of the music from Fire Shark et al in it (the level clear theme for example)

I just tried to download the update and it froze at 1% before saying it couldn't download TTS. It also deleted the old revision of the game so I can't play it at all.

I've tried re downloading another five times and I get the same issue. Any ideas?

Happened to me as well.

When doing a search for the game, it gives two results, one of them is a Live Arcade version with support for 2 players... :?
But when I selected the other one it was downloaded properly.

It clearly is something fishy with this and I read the same thing happened to someone on twitter.
Will escalate to MS.

But... If I just launch the installed game, won't the correct patch be applied?

You get an option to download the new version or keep the old one...never seen that before.
And after that, what Rupert said happens.

Super!

In other news, yesterday was the first day the game didn't sell in Japan.
They hate the update, yep, that has to be it.

So I just got this, and naturally it's great, but I was just wondering, is there something strange going on with the aspect ratio?
Seems VERY thin, to me, but if you rotate it, it does actually fill the whole screen (i.e. it's 16:9).
Just some strange optical illusion, or is the aspect ratio actually different for normal vs rotated?

Ticks a lot of the right boxes, but too easy on first playthrough. Makes it a bit boring.

Just played my first credit of this and had a blast! Got to 2-6, got hit, then couldn't recover. Does stage 6 only appear on loops?

mice,

that game looks great! Unfortunately, I have problems running the OSX version. When launching the JAR file from the Terminal, I get an error message pointing towards a missing library. Upon googling, I discovered that his was related to lwjgl. For some strange reason, I didn't manage to install that library either (got an error message related to some of the display modes).

Do you think you could look into this? Maybe bundling lwjgl with the application will solve that issue.

EDIT: This is the trace that shows up in the terminal. The stars (*) replace my user name

Seems to be a java8 issue. Which I haven't even tried yet.

Could you please try to rename the "liblwjgl.jnilib" in the "/var/folders/rw/3jc5cxqx7cq1bzbrc95st8_40000gn/T/libgdx*********/75260a42/" folder to "liblwjgl.dylib".
Just to test. Internet says it works. :)
