3 lives, Normal difficulty. Internal autofire adjustment (New Version) and external autofire are both allowed. Please note what total autofire settings you've used.

New Version is a very different version of the game. Non-Japan boards loop, so those are being split as well. "USA Version" is supposed to be identical to non-Japan boards of New Version.

After some 10 hours of play, only now I'm feeling like I'm getting somewhere. Learned the patterns of the stages 2 and 3 bosses and 100%s are more frequent now. I never managed to get past the stage 5 boss though, I literally have no idea what comes after him.

Interesting tidbit: I remember sikraiken saying in the old STGT thread that stage 4 is impossible to 100% because some enemies don't appear (more specifically, after the medal rain part, some tanks are missing on the right side of the screen). If you boot up Old Version and let the attract mode run for a while, you'll see those tanks appearing normally.

I still have the number 2 spot on this? And I thought I sucked at this game.
Nice to see there is still some life on this thread, maybe I'll dust PCB again some day.

Are you sure that's the Japan version? The Japan version doesn't loop.

What a magnificent game. I had it on my list of shmup desiderata for a while, but probably wouldn't have played it for quite some time if not for a friendly competition where it was picked as the game of choice. It's easily top 25 material for me, quite possibly even top 10. Not only does it showcase Seibu's consuetudinarily superb destruction aesthetics, it's also by far the most fun I've had with any of their games yet. I got a certain Image Fight feeling out of the extreme violence you have to exert all the time, either kill vital threats immediately or get killed. À la bonne heure!

Was on the brink of a meltdown when I foolishly picked up a laser in stage 6, wasn't quite able to keep my nerves down after that. Even switched to the wrong weapon in stage 8, again! Should've gotten to 2-5 at least, was not expecting the 2-4 boss to sport projectiles this fast, though (never played the second loop before). Will most certainly return to this game, I think I'll stick to the Japanese version and the single loop, the perfectionistic scoring system is tailor-made for that.

You are welcome, I use the autofire included in the game which is very fast on my opinion, I don't understand why people use an external autofire like mame/reco :?, for my concern, I think it's like a cheat...
I played few runs with autofire delay 1 (rate which is physically unreachable) on mame, it's clearly a huge advantage :shock:

I think the score board should be splitted, original autofire and external on the other side ;)

Non-autofire replays for Seibu games are rare because trying to play a Seibu game without autofire is fucking insane. That's why Seibu added the autofire settings for New Version. Viper Phase 1 New Version is the only Seibu game that has something vaguely resembling internal autofire.

Can we please not have this discussion ten years after the fact? Pretty much every old game benefits from autofire in a huge way, this is really old news. At the same time, autofire isn't "cheating". It's not cheating for Darius Gaiden, it's not cheating for Slap Fight, and it's not cheating for Viper Phase 1. I don't actually have a problem with splitting for autofire, and I'd like to be able to do that more in the future, but there are so few scores that it doesn't really matter. It's not like splitting for character where you are literally playing a completely different game. The Slap Fight thread was a special case and I'd much prefer it to stay that way right now.

I don't even know what to split for, because a bunch of people just put "Yes" without saying what they actually used. volaju is the only person to actually say they used the internal autofire. That doesn't even clarify which speed was used, because I hope that everyone actually using internal autofire is setting it to Hi and nothing less. Apparently that won't be the case.

I understand the problem, a lot of score already posted with no detailed info, pity that we allowed external autofire since the start :(, for once we had a seibu shmup with an included one....

But I'm not at all against autofire (it's the opposite), I use it when I think it's shame that a shmup don't include it (seibu games except VP1 for examples) and above all, I limit it to a physically reachable rate ;)

In conclusion, in that particular case, it's cheating for me but it doesn't matter and I will continue to enjoy playing it and trying to 1CC it :D

No miss, but three big mistakes where made;
-Missing 1 enemy on Stage 6, losing the 100% bonus.
-Accidentally picking the Yellow M (missile) power-up in Stage 7, resulting in the use of 2 unplanned bombs.
-Destroyed one of the parts of the Stage 7 boss early before damaging them one by one, resulting in 2 bombs.

Replay
Used 30hz on button 1 along with internal autofire on button 1 ( hispeed/default). Made it into the loop with 1 extra life, but made dumb mistakes on 2-2 boss & mid 2-3.
