The Shoryuken tech forum is always a good place to find information. While there's no single answer there you will find plenty of info in the larger stick threads if you take the time to read through em, lots of pics too.

This one helped me:
http://www.geocities.co.jp/AnimeComic-N ... dc/dc.html
It's got the color info you need for the Sanwa harness to match the color on the DC's PCB harness. It's in Japanese, but you can probably run it through a translator. THe pics will help too!

I thought about making new topic but I'll wrote in this one.
Few days ago I decided to make my new DC stick moded to play on PS1, an ultimate one
But now I consulted with an specialist who claims that sanwa and seimitsu aren't too good for 2d games because of long time of reaction. He compared for me sanwa and seimitsu sticks witch t-stick and it seems he is right. The second one has almost 1/2 shorter time of reaction.
I am afraid of spending some huge amounts of money for stuff I'd not be pleased.
And now I would like to hear your opinions for this:
how is dc stick in comparison to sanwa one (nvm the buttons)?
Please, make sure that money you spend won't affect your opinions;]
I must admit that mentioned dc stick seems quite comfortable for me now.

Eh?? what else would digital controls be used for if not 2D stuff. Ignore your so-called specialist.I consulted with an specialist who claims that sanwa and seimitsu aren't too good for 2d games because of long time of reaction.

The only delay you'll get in using custom built sticks is if yoo use some sort of conversion circuitry (eg: PS2->USB converter, PS2->XBox converter, etc). There are some good ones around, but some add a noticable delay.
Wiring up your own sticks to a native pad will not add delay. We're talking microswitches here. Digital on and off. There's no "circuitry" or sorts between the microswitch and the pad's input, so no delay is added.
Plus, Sanwa and Seimitsu have great names out there in the industry, and are used in a great deal of high quality Japanese cabs. Hardware doesn't get that sort of reputation by being laggy.
I too vote to ignore the "expert". Having built and sold sticks and cabs of all different shapes, sizes and brands, I strongly disagree.

You're kidding? That just comes down to pad vs stick preferance, and nothing more. Use a stick for a while and you'll get used to it very quickly.tiktak wrote:But by delay he didnt mean lag but microseconds of full move of the stick, max and min angle and so on.
Plus, Sanwa sticks have a more than reasonable throw. And if they bug you, either get a bigger actuator and mod the stick, or buy a short-throw stick like a Euro-style Suzo or something similar.
In all my years of using arcade hardware, I have NEVER heard anyone complain that the travel distance of a stick was to blame for the "microseconds" added to their reaction time. That's a new one!

started mod, got the stick screwed in place looks good. question though before I fukk it up.
I'm going to start soldering the stick wires, I have a 5 pin harness connected into my JLF 8TPY, was just going to cut the 5 wires connected to the original DC stick, match up the wire colours and solder them, the only 1s different in colour are the RED and GREEN wires, the guide gaijin posted in japanese gives pretty much that image 3 quarters of the way down the page was going to follow it.
But, tychoms guide says the pin layout is different??? Do I need to change the order of wire colour soldering?
Any advice would be really appreciated

It depends on which way the PCB on the stick is facing. Figure out which way you want it and just follow the wires and traces yourself - it doesn't take long, and it lets you orient the PCB whichever way you want. If you really want I can find out how I did it, but it's not that hard to just check it yourself.

One could follow the traces visually or with a multimeter as others have suggested. I happen to have a pinout in front of me at the moment so I'll save you the trouble :)Diabollokus wrote:But, tychoms guide says the pin layout is different??? Do I need to change the order of wire colour soldering?

Sanwa JLF-TP-8Y [Pins up, looking at the bottom of the stick, read left to right]

Sega/Agetec stick [encoder PCB side, read top to bottom]
1-Left
2-Down
3-Right
4-Up
5-Ground/Earth
btw, I'm glad that you finally got your Agetec sorted, Diabollokus.

While oxtsu's post is probably spot on, it's still work for retards like me. THis link might help:
http://www.geocities.co.jp/AnimeComic-N ... dc/dc.html
The love is on the chart. If you pu the sanwa stick in the way that he says (w/ the harness jack facing OUT -- away from the innards of the control like this) then the leads are as follows
Good luck!

Thanks guys, Think thats all I needed. Got it. orientate stick right way then match the colours
BTW: Oxtsu, no I never got my agetec sorted, had to buy another one off ebay as Dantesinferno screwed me, out of item and money. so this stick is working around at a total cost of £70 about $125 to mod a flippin DC stick. first mod I want it to work.
Buttons I think is easy enough I'll leave them until I get the stick done, I have those crimp things which oxtsu sent + plastic covers, Got a drimel to widden the metal holes a little. If I'm not mistaken no soldering is required when crimping? just cut the plastic and expose the wires, attach 2 black wires together in one terminal and in the other the single coloured wire,
metal thing attaches to button terminals, (2 metal things per button), wires to ends of metal thing, conect them, then encase in plastic
I'll get it back to it later this evening, have it tested them try buttons tomorrow. Thanks again

Well, that's sorry. It will be worth it in the end at least.Diabollokus wrote:BTW: Oxtsu, no I never got my agetec sorted, had to buy another one off ebay as Dantesinferno screwed me, out of item and money. so this stick is working around at a total cost of £70 about $125 to mod a flippin DC stick. first mod I want it to work.
