I played a decent amount of Simple mode. Novice Original feels very similar. Maybe some different patterns or slightly more difficulty in later stages. I don't remember. I suppose something has to balance the fact that you can enter break mode now.

Anyway, it's excellent for newbies.

It might be helpful if we could figure out some commonality between all the people that can't get full screen to work.

I'm running it under wine so I don't count, but I'm hoping if windows people figure it out I can figure it out too ;)

It does properly full screen on my win7 laptop, though.

Windows 7 64-bit (Professional?) Intel i5 cpu with integrated graphics. 1280x800 native resolution (16:10). Full screen works fine for me. Anything else that might help?

Just downloaded steam for the first time to play this, a few steam ultra-n00b questions:

1: It appears the button 1/2/3 keys are Z/X/C - can't you reassign them? Is this some standard/default key mapping for steam games or something?

2: I bought the Deluxe version, but the soundtrack doesn't appear to show up anywhere under my library. Under DLC, the soundtrack is still available to buy for money - wtf? I found the MP3 files via the magic of dir /s so at least I have them, but it would be nice to know how I was supposed to officially get at this stuff.

3: I'm getting weird behaviour from the keyboard, e.g. I can't move up/left while firing. I can move in all directions when not holding fire, and with fire held I can do other diagonals, just not up/left. WTF? Anyone else get problems like this? I'm running on a ~3 year old Sony Vaio laptop btw, but I never had this problem on other games or MAME.

4: Finally, joystick mapping is completely b0rked for me. Testing with a Madcatz SF4 TE that's been multi console modded (IMPv2 + MC Cthulhu) so I dunno if that affects it but it works on MAME right off the bat without any setup or remapping. In CC the directions are mostly rotated, and I get FIRE instead of UP. Guess I'll have to try this joy2key thing and hope that I don't then run into the keyboard problems :(

Running great in full screen mode on my Win 8.1, i5-3570k, GTX 770, Qanba Q4RAF setup. I can't believe how inexpensive the game is! I would have paid a LOT more. Really hope it sells well.

When people say fullscreen isn't working, what exactly do they mean? I started the game in fullscreen and the menu text was blank so I couldn't see what options I was selecting, but the game itself still runs. I cleared Novice Original on my 1st attempt (currently 11th in the table).

Just tried it in windowed mode and the menu text does display ok.

EDIT: fullscreen working fine now. Just needed a reboot, presumably.

Congratulations! You're experiencing something called Keyboard Rollover, AKA your keyboard sucks.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rollover_%28key%29
The tl;dr is that keyboards can only register so many keys at once (depending on how they're designed), and yours doesn't cut it. Try different key bindings until you find one that can hold everything at once that you need to. If nothing works, get a better keyboard (a mechanical keyboard, by design, lets you hold down as many keys at once as you like, so you may consider shelling out for one)

Btw, I used to suffer this way back in the Tyrian days of my youth. Held down all the fire buttons and couldn't move in diagonals anymore. Killed me a lot, ha ha.

It's default key from the game, just like the old CC. Most doujin STG use Z=shoot & X=bomb.

That's weird, I found it on the library folder (\SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\Crimzon Clover\Soundtrack)

Maybe your keyboard doesn't support multiple keys pressed (ghosting). Try test it with usb keyboard.

I had some problem but I managed to make it work on linux. And it work very well although it's long time since my computer can be considered as good.
To make it work I had to disable Steam overlay(with it it crashed always after any key was pressed) and to solve keyboard issue I have to start Steam and next from the same WINEPREFIX launch Crimzon Clover from command line(not from Steam client).

Yeah I'll see if I have another keyboard knocking about somewhere, but the thing that's weird is it CAN do 3+ keypresses because I can hold fire and move into other diagonal directions, up/left is the only one that doesn't work with fire held.

So this game is really awesome so far. Novice Original is a blast.

That's normal - due to the way keyboards are designed, not all possible combinations of buttons can be held, and it's not in a 'just take the first X' way, it's different for every part of the keyboard. Up/left is the one that didn't work for me as a kid too.

My wimpy Intel-integrated laptop is running it pretty capably, at least in a window: it stuttered and wheezed a bit, but for the most part everything is smooth.

While I do share at least some of the "I wish it was DRM-free" sentiment, I still really hope this game does well: especially for the asking price it's tough to find it in me to complain.
It's running on my Dell 2.2GHz dual core laptop (with integrated graphics card). Haven't tried Unlimited Mode, though, which had a lot of slowdown for me in the original version. I'm guessing the high specs listed in the game description (3.40GHz dual) are what's required to get Unlimited Mode running at constant 60 fps, but you should be able to play Original Mode fairly well if you have a slower processor...

Just making sure: the game is not 16:9, so the black borders in full screen with a wide monitor is normal and how the game should be.

The feeling you get when you double break in unlimited mode, there is nothing quite like it. This shooter is amazing.

At less than a fiver? Sold. It's been a while since I played the original, so it's taking a while to get used to tracking your hitbox through all the stuff that goes on.

First credit, made it to stage 3 - which included a stupid death on the first boss. Novice mode is really really easy though - EX boss 2 on first credit there, but it's still really good fun.

Will probably hit some of the other modes/ships later this weekend. Also, proper tate option - HELL YES!

Pretty bummed out that you cannot remap keyboard controls in-game. I need movement keys on the left side because of a shoulder injury.

The game itself looks solid as expected. I was happy to see all modes unlocked by default, the new ship type gives me a good feel as well.

Not sure how much I will be playing it though. Back when I was noob de noob I couldn't play anything that didn't feature screenwide multicolored explosions every two seconds, but now I find the screen clutter and the overall hyperness kinda annoying.

I guess I'll try and find a ship/mode combination that I like and I'll stick to that for now.

EDIT: Alt-tabbed out of the game from full-screen, now I can't get back in.

Is it possible to get all of the rewards from a midboss at once? I was hovering over the stage 5 midboss (Novice Boost if it matters) when it exploding without thinking about it, and I swear I heard the noise of all three rewards go off.

You can turn off the star item graphics if that helps.

Hmm, my HRAP SE doesn't seem to work with this game. The player 1 led lits up just fine on the stick, but CC doesn't seem to register it: neither the stick is registered, nor ANY button.

It works just fine with the standard wired xbox 360 pad.

X360 joysticks use POVhat for the joystick input. You need to remap then to use axis controls instead.

endoKarb wrote:I do have a question. The original PC version of Crimzon Clover had a compatibilty problem with some controllers, in particular it would recognize D-pads but not POV/hat switches (most arcade sticks?). This is a problem can also be found in other PC doujin release (e.g. touhou).
AFAIK the only workaround was to map arrow keys to the POV switches with an external program like Joy2Key. Has this issue been fixed?
If you're using an X360 controller on PC, you can use the XBCD drivers and setup utility to remap the controls directly, without requiring a separate application to do it. That's what I do with my SFIV TE stick.
If it's not recognising your buttons as well, however, then it might be something else.

Icarus, yeah the pov-hat issue is known to me, it's just strange, that the buttons don't register either. Well, no biggie, there's always joy2key.

Edit: using the controller, both the left stick and the d-pad work without problem.

What is the official arcade joystick mapping for the game?
[shot][lock][break]? or [lock][shot][break]?

I can't do fullscreen either. The only solution right now is manually stretching the window to fit the screen.

Having a weird thing going on with time attack where it just randomly restarts from the beginning of the stage.

In the arcade you had the option to remap, but the default was Shot, Lock, Break Mode.

Cleared Novice Boost Mode (Type I) on my first attempt, with 2.8 billion. Currently 2nd in the table.

I'm quite impressed with how well it runs on my relatively crappy laptop, even in Unlimited Mode. Runs better than Ikaruga, in fact.

This game...so fucking amazing. I played the doujin version a while back.

I love boost mode. Playing novice currently to to get myself oriented.

Made it to top-2 novice original and top-5 in type-1 and type-2 novice boost mode, not sure if someone already beat them because people seems to play a lot currently :D

I even got my friend playing who doesn't usually play shmups :)

So amazing, much clover, wow.
