SF Bay Area / Norcal / San Jose meet 2014, Sat. June 21
SF Bay Area / Norcal / San Jose meet 2014, Sat. June 21
Preliminary thread for the 4th meet. Tentative date: Saturday June 21, Noon - 10:00PM.
Please post in the thread to RSVP. Also let me know what you can bring in terms of food and drink.
Headphones!
Almost all setups will have headphone jacks, so bring your favorite headphones.
I'll have about 6 spare headphones that can be used if you forget to bring yours.
You can see in the pics below that the cabs are wired for headphones.
E-amusement
If you have a Konami e-amusement card, please bring it if you plan on playing Pop'n Music.
Otherwise, you can play without e-amusement or buy a card from me (I'll have three available).
Food
I'm asking everyone to bring at least one food or drink item for entry (people bringing hardware exempted).
I think we need more drinks than food at this point. Ice chests would be good too, if anyone has one they can bring.
I will be ordering 5 pizzas and garlic knots from "A Slice of New York" pizza for pickup around 4PM.
Cost will be around $10 per person.
Food list:
parts - Fried chicken and 7up
Kiselgof - Cake and Brownies
blackoak - Baklava
BER - ice cream

Re: SF Bay Area / Norcal / San Jose meet 2014 Summer
Sounds good, alamone. I have nothing planned for June and beyond for the moment.

There's a chance I'll also be able to host a meet at my new place before the summer heat sets in, or at least that's the plan. Still good to know Alamone is setting the bar high with the following must see lineup!

Re: SF Bay Area / Norcal / San Jose meet 2014 Summer
Wow, to play a four-player session of Darius Burst:AC EX would be legendary for a West Coast shmupmeet indeed.
To have a G-Darius ver.2 PCB up & running on a Sega Megalo candy cab setup at the 2013 CAX show was cool (even if was just for one day).
PC Engine Fan X! ^_~

Re: SF Bay Area / Norcal / San Jose meet 2014 Summer
I have been looking into moving back to the bay area possibly in the summer. If I am in the area I would definitely make it out.
Re: SF Bay Area / Norcal / San Jose meet 2014 Summer
By the way, the old Namco Exceleena cab is gone but I've replaced it with a Namco Cyberlead.
It's too bad I don't have any PCBs that support that funky digital marquee.

Re: SF Bay Area / Norcal / San Jose meet 2014 Summer
I think that Cyberlead LED only supports Namco System 10/11/12 PCBs...so Teknomori Shooting is the only compatible "shmup". I do have some puzzlers - Aqua Rush, Mr Driller, and Star Trigon which might display something on it.
Re: SF Bay Area / Norcal / San Jose meet 2014 Summer
anytime other than very early june should be good for me. can't wait to see the DBAC setup, hehe
Re: SF Bay Area / Norcal / San Jose meet 2014 Summer
Early-mid June would be good for me as well, I've got family over from late June to early July so I wouldn't be able to do it then.
Re: SF Bay Area / Norcal / San Jose meet 2014 Summer
Sounds good. If it's going to be on the second half of May, there's a small chance I'll need an Internet connection if I need to do urgent work, since I'm taking over my vacationing director's work by then.Dave_K. wrote:There's a chance I'll also be able to host a meet at my new place before the summer heat sets in, or at least that's the plan.

Not a problem. Fingers crossed I can get my crap together by then.
Re: SF Bay Area / Norcal / San Jose meet 2014 Summer
Haven't been on here in a million years. Darius Burst!? For reals!? I can't even imagine how that, Planet Harriers, and Solar Assault will be set up. That's CRAZINESS!! Hopefully I'll be there.
BTW, you can play Solar Assault at Scandia in Rohnert Park. The projection screen has heavy burn, but it's fully working and complete. I couldn't afford to buy it nor did I have the space for it so my friend put it on location at his job.

Yeah, DBAC is going to be in a separate room. I also need to work out how I'm going to do the 4P controls.
I have it working now with a single player. Looking into getting 2x2 player panels side by side.
Looking for some empty blast city panels and/or HSS-0130s for the job.

Re: SF Bay Area / Norcal / San Jose meet 2014, June 14 or 21
Some updates:
1. Darius II is off the list as I could not fix the sound. I am looking for a PCB repair service to take a look at it, if anyone has suggestions.
2. Tentative dates of June 14 or 21. Please post your preferences.
3. DBAC will have 4 player controls. I have a Blast Panel and a HSS-0130 that I will be putting side by side.
4. This might be a long shot, but I'm looking for a new roommate. If you or someone you know needs a place in San Jose (July 1 move in), please let me know.

Re: SF Bay Area / Norcal / San Jose meet 2014, June 14 or 21
Unfortunately had some things come up this month which will prevent me from attending, or hosting.
You couldn't have picked a better place to advertise for a roomate, this is a single shmuppers dream!

alamone, I have a slight preference for the 21st, but I can try to make either date. I'm thinking about bringing a guest over.alamone wrote:2. Tentative dates of June 14 or 21. Please post your preferences.
Looking forward to this! I haven't played anything intense in months!
(I had a preference for the 14th, but I got new information from work that made me change my mind.)

June 14 would sort of conflict with Atari Party, though not by too much since it's a short event and would be over by 4 PM.
RE: Darius II sound: is Ninja Warriors harder to find than Darius II? There's some chance the sound board for that one is the same.
I've had a number of (much older and very different) arcade sound boards blow up on me, but it usually turned out to either be one of the random TTLs or the sound amplifier IC. Hopefully it's not anything hard to replace.

Re: SF Bay Area / Norcal / San Jose meet 2014, June 14 or 21
There's two versions of Darius 2, one is the original two-screen version which is based on Warrior Blade,
and another I believe is a conversion kit for Darius that is three-screens and is based on the Ninja Warriors.
I have the two-screen version, as the three-screen version is pretty rare and hard to find.
So, alternatively, if I can find a Warrior Blade PCB, I could probably swap the components to fix the issue.

Sounds fun, I have both Saturday's off. Also have a butt load of vertical shmup pcb's if needed.
Re: SF Bay Area / Norcal / San Jose meet 2014, June 14 or 21
I can only do the 21st as I'll be volunteering for the Sunnyvale Atari Party on the 14th.
