Good points, I'll have to check call Gamespot up on Tuesday (which is also the release date for the game given on IGN). Since Gamestop bought out EB Games, I don't understand why EBX seems to know nothing about it, and Gamestop knows about the game. Sadly, there's NO reserve SKU for it though, so reserves can't even be taken. Typically this means that the publisher ( O~3 Entertainment in this case) is getting really cheap shipping, so we'll probably get the game late anyway.

It's because O~3 Entertainment bought some advertising space on Gamestop's promo DVDs since September. Trailer for the game and everything.
It won't be until February that the store computers/etc. for EB and Gamestop really start merging or switching over at all. Only change the consumer would notice at this point is that you can't trade in PC games anymore at EB.

I have a $5 reserve at Gamestop for Chaos Field. From what I understand the SKU went up at Gamestop early last week. I figured that it might be a one or two copy title, kinda like Dai Senryaku VII was in some areas for the XBox (at first). I agree that I likely will not get a copy until Wednesday or Thursday, but I also have a feeling that those who did not reserve it might have a hard time finding one. Good points; you can find Alien Hominid new for the PS2 on Ebay for $20. Let's hope that Chaos Field's distribution will be as good!Ganelon wrote:I dunno about rarity. Alien Hominid is still a fairly easy find. I expect O~3's distribution for Chaos Field will be similar.

Yeah I just reserved mine today. The game was "released" today as well it seems, so Tuesday afternoon at the earliest. One can only hope, I'll stop by my store when I get out of class tomorrow morning.al138 wrote:I have a $5 reserve at Gamestop for Chaos Field. Just as well that it comes late, as anyone with the taste to get it will probably get Final Fantasy IV GBA tomorrow instead anyway.

Well, I picked it up. The only changes in the game itself are:
1. There's an O~3 logo screen before the MileStone one.
2. The game is in English.
The title screen has completely been left alone (even the katakana furigana is still left) as has the attract mode screen (the game's stylish logo has not been altered or replaced).

Lucky! I received a automated call from Gamestop yesterday, but wanting err on the side of caution, I called this evening. It appears that my local shop didn't receive it as planned. The clerk thought it was odd, but to be honest I wasn't surprised.Kiken wrote:Well, I picked it up. The only changes in the game itself are:

It sounds interesting, and I can't wait to give it a spin. Thanks for the advanced info.

I ran down to Gamestop this evening to get this game, and I hadn't even pre-ordered it!
I LOVE this game! This is by far the best bullet-hell shmup I've ever played! All of the different weapons and options make it tons of fun, and I can still see the Compile influence in the boss designs! Plays pretty well with the stock Cube controller, too-although I'm sure it plays even better with the Cube Digital controller.
The only dissapointment is the boss explosions- I don't know what O3 did, but they don't look near as good as the Dreamcast rev-they look rather chopped up and messy, athough not pixiliated.
All in all, though, for half the price of the DC rev, this is one heck of a deal, and one awesome shmup!

Well, it's the same as the DC rev that I bought back in 2004... save for a couple of differences here and there (including the Expanded Mode, which really doesn't add all that much). Personally, I prefer the DC version (the control feels tighter and I prefer the slowdown) though.professor ganson wrote:What do you think of the game, Kiken? Ganelon? I'll surely get it in any case. Just curious what you guys think of it.Kiken wrote:Precisely.Ganelon wrote:So, no difference in features from the JP Expanded?
I enjoy the game, it has a really deep scoring mechanic and a great soundtrack... I just happen to be busy playing other games at the moment (like Homura).

Says the 18th here (elsewhere) in Canada.Hamarskald wrote:Arrgh... EB now says the 19th here in Canada.
I accidentally prompted a few people to pre-order it while I was doing so. The clerk asked what kind of game it was and I told him it was a vertical shooter "like Ikaruga."
Whoops.
I hope the people getting it won't be TOO disappointed... I know exactly what I'm getting. I liked it on Dreamcast (but not enough to import it) but honestly... it certainly isn't the next Ikaruga.
Edit: Oops, had Gradius on my brain or something. Of course Chaos Field is vertical.

Got it today!
I removed my ps2 from the vertical cab where I had been deeply into Homura. Its in the Red NeoGeo Cab as you can see here-->

Chaos Field is a "Horizontal Shooter that scrolls vertically"
