There should be an extra bonus point for whoever can post a screenshot of their ship with the most gunballs trailing behind it.

i actually used to like this game, and that's because i played a grand total of two credits and didn't really understand what it was about

this game is aggressively unfun made even more painful by being so close to the complete opposite end of the spectrum

the entire game is built on the idea of improvisation, except you can't actually improvise half the time because the game doesn't give you the tools to physically do so

it even manages to find yet another way to truly kill you when you die, because we really needed another example of survival-based restart syndrome

it's the kind of game where the ship speed is actually fine except for the part where ~*sometimes*~ the game isn't actually balanced for it

i don't think this game is going to let me get to round 4, let alone round 5, but fuck all because i'm going to try as much as i physically can

of course, people are going to think this is typical stgt bitching, because clearly i need to see some wacky bipolar-type thing filtering what people think i am, because clearly i haven't defended and loved nearly every other game chosen for this thing over the years

and no, gemini wing would be a great pick for any tourney if the game wasn't made by idiots with amazing ideas

this game needs a god damned remake.

Tecmo is weird.
Star Force also defaults to easy.

I luv trap's STGT even more now

this one is more playable with a regular 360 controller than last week's, too (need all the help I can get right now)

a few games in mame do that. i'm worried that some might be incorrect settings due to mame assuming that all dips off is always default... it isn't. we need manuals.

i wish people cared more about this stuff, such as ops recording what the default dips were when they got the game. what a shame.

Ah, I suppose it makes sense that there's a limit, otherwise it would get a bit silly after a while...

Protip: when you see the item carrier, don't destroy it as you'll get a random set of orbs. Shoot it until you see the orbs you want, then touch the line behind the carrier to steal them away.

I'm not officially in this tournament but will be playing along in an attempt to 1cc this.

Still looks pretty silly with max orbs.

Not sure about this game. Using the fiery sweeper laser to take out swathes of enemies / scenery is pretty satisfying though. Bosses are oddly trivial compared to the rest of the game.

Good advice generally - and I should have listened to the little voice in the back of my head saying "pack along your regular keyboard, that laptop is shit with terrible ergonomics on the keyboard and rollover issues that prevent you from hitting key combos even from the letter keys." Whoops!

Gemini Wing on a 360 stick isn't a complete failure. Actually, if the pad was better made, I could just use the face buttons and use shoulder buttons for the other game functions, but that's not an option either so lol

Some experimenting with the final boss, killing it with the main weapon only so you can get the max 15 * 20K end game bonus (no I can't get to the end boss at all...yet =/):

Strange that this defaults at 'Easy'. Anyway, DIPs set to 'Normal', and I'm loving this! I don't normally warm to this type of shmup.

EDIT: Trap15; do you think it's worth making it more explicit in the OP here and over on Gemini Wing's TRP-STGT scoreboard that we're not playing at defaults this week?

So do the point items just spawn randomly or what?
100k is kind of really huge when the score range is lower than 2.5 million and getting a high score would just be luck then.

I'm not really digging the random powerups either when you're trying to kill everything for score.

If i remember correctly, the point items are based on score. Not random.

This will be a close week in regards to score. I doubt any team will have any real difficulty in getting the technical bonus, and after an evening of play getting through half the game, the game feels a little easy - even though it loves spamming 4 dozen enemies with 2 dozen bullets an awful lot. The game gives you so many gunball items that it's stupid not to spam it whenever things get a little hectic. I actually like how the items don't cancel bullets - if it did this game would have been a total joke.

Can't say I dislike the game, though playing for score seems a bit odd relying on random items to boost your score.

This game seems really whimsical and old school! I feel like I am playing in the golden age of arcades. I like the Stage 3 theme a lot.

The thing is that because the game defaults to Easy, if you just say "play on Normal" people will assume they are playing on Normal when they are in fact playing on Easy

So making it as clear as possible is definitely good

Stage 3 seriously sounds like something out of Metroid to me.

Agreed on the old-school feel, Tecmo was really good about hitting that vibe with their stuff, even if their games were far from polished. :D

Gemini Wing's surreal atmosphere I think is its biggest draw. There is little rhyme or reason as to what you are shooting at (bugs? bacteria? eyeball trees? Walruses? Battleships with skulls? why not). It keeps things fresh.

EDIT: Is there a difference between 1P and 2P?

Is there a world record replay for Gemini Wing [Normal]?
