I beat Gradius 3 arcade with speedups only

Post by tviks »

Here's an early christmas present for all of you. I originally planned on making a replay of beating this game 15 loops in a row, but then decided it was too boring to make and watch. So then I came up with an idea of beating the first loop using only speedups.

Thanks to Landshark for hosting the file. The game is the hardest japanese version and it was done on the newest Mame. Oh, and if somebody likes, feel free to make an avi and maybe a torrent of this. I'm not familiar with that stuff.

Interesting, but how do you play the: "Gradius 3 (Japan) 1cc with speedups only by tviks.inp" file?

Get mame here:

http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/clas ... Binary.exe

place the .inp file in the inp folder. Open up mame, click file > playback input

Hopefully this helps.

Could you upload it in a standard, non-proprietary archive format like ZIP? There is no reason to use RAR for something like a MAME inp file.

Go get 7-zip. It does all the compression formats, FREE.

That replay is insane. I would never have that patience or skill. Makes me feel bad as I can't get past level 3 with full options and shields.

He doesn't even use a shield. Purely speedups.

Yeah there's no excuse to not at the very least have WinRAR anyway, I mean it's free.

This replay is crazy. The closest I've ever come to this is to one life NES Contra and Super C with just the normal gun which isn't all that impressive anyway. :P

I can't open the file via MAME. Do I have to download the Gradius 3 rom?

With Speedups only!!!???
Let me guess...3 speed ups then?
How many deaths?

Damn, thats very impressive!!! Some people will never even see the end area with weapons AND continues.

Contra,Gradius III...and I thought one was a macho muther for getting a 1CC the usual way, but with grabbing no powerups! Thats just sick!!!

1. Download MAME32 at http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/arcade/mame.html

2. Google for Gradius3.zip (the japanese rom), put it into "roms" directory

3. Copy the .inp -file into "inp" directory

4. Run MAME32, click "file" and then "playback input", then select the .inp -file

Whoo, that was something else! I had to turn it off after the third time through the boss rush as I just didn't want to watch it al over again, but man, you have got yourself some skills.

i watched it last night, and it was absolutely disgusting...

and you have got some patience bones. watching you go through the boss rush over and over was a heartbreaker.

anyway, amazing stuff. as i am currently still stuck midway through stage 5, this kind of performance seemed even theoretically impossible before now. you sir, are a robot.

also, whats with the starting lives set to six?

also, one last comment: you make it look easy, everything else i've written is just padding.
I have no sig whatsoever.

I still think your best moment is in your 3-loop replay when you fight the Moia Head miniboss with nothing and do all that crazy dodging.

nah dont do that, 7-zip brings its own pointless format to the table so the less people who can deal with it the quicker it will die out and we can forget it ever existed.

And your point? It still works with all formats and creates all other formats.

It's like saying don't use your pocket knife because it has that useless bottle opener on it.

This is something I have suspected long time for now. I thought playing gradius III snes version in arcade difficulty was accomplishment.

There is something to be said for this type of game... if you die in a regular game, you yell NOOOOOO! because you lose all your stuff. If you die like this, oh... oh well... lol

I used F10 to speed past the Boss Rush :P
