I don't like seeing a level unless I have cleared all the rest before it with 1credit. It's either play the game like you would at an arcade, or credit feed to unlock level select. The first option is a pain, especially when each level is a long one. Some shmups are just so DAMN long. Reflex does this. I have also seen this in super star soldier too, but for super star soldier you only unlock level select when you have cleared the whole game!

I've never actually cleared Deathsmiles II. That always bothered me since it's rather easy in Cavetown, so today I turned on my 360 to just get a quick clear. Got it on the third credit.

Then the game softlocked right after the ending. Never got to see my score, so I can't post it. Oh, Cave. Can't decide if I want to do it again just to get a little clear badge on Restart Syndrome or if I will just move on.

^If you do it on level 1 that clear is 100% free. You could always just do that to get it out of the way.

I've actually already got the X mode clear at all Level 3+EX. I never pulled off an Arcade clear because I was too focused on trying to score regardless of my ability to not eat bullets with Lei's face. My score was surprisingly OK on my clear run (660 mil vs 740 mil PB), so maybe it's worth picking up a new PB clear anyway.

Remember the part where I was able to consistently make it to stage 4 of Mars Matrix usually with only 1-2 misses? Seems like only yesterday. Actually, I think it was yesterday. Yeah, not any more, I guess. Especially frustrating since I actually managed to get a +700 chain in stage 2 without dying.

Exceed 2nd apparently has some sort of RNG seed value or something for certain patterns that can only be altered when clearing previous stages.

What this means is that you will always get the same pattern in stage select practice, but in an actual full run you could get something completely different. So you could spend quite some time routing a stage and thinking certain things are static when they aren't, as well as not being able to practice the alternate patterns.

I don't like this.

360, and the replay of that run is up on the leaderboards at the moment. That was the first time I've ever seen that happen though, regardless of version.

I wonder if it is caused by causing the boss to change phases with frame perfect timing - like the Dodonpachi stage 4 boss stall bug.

If you can upload a video of the replay, Dodonpachi DaiOuJou should be TASable, so someone could go through and try and kill the boss on the exact same frame (or similar looking frames) to see if it recurs.

Have you tried the Gamestop brand 360 controller? It sounds terrible, I know, and the d-pad is stiff as a dick, but has done me pretty well, and its readily available

Emuser apparently uses that one and he also likes the dpad

Batrider Highway has overpass that completely hides your ship. And bullets. And enemies are currently shooting. And I was seconds away from an extend.

Wow. encountered this for the first time ever in 2hu (Mountain of Faith), and I was like "No biggie, I'll credit feed through stage 4 tonight to open up the practice mode for stage 4.

So, the other thing about Mountain of Faith is that you start at the beginning of a stage on a new credit (I actually quite like this feature generally, as it's good for practicing). Could not get all the way through stage 4 in like 10 credits, and finally accidentally quit to the menu. How obnoxious >_< I'm gonna need to credit feed all the way to 4 again just to practice, next time. or hopefully just clear stage 1-3 again and only need to start feeding credits to 4.

I just earned my first novice laser clear in SDOJ, and the fucking game decides
that it is going to return me to the title screen instead of asking me if I want to save the replay. :evil:

Ugh. I figured it out...

I restarted on stage 1 after a poor opening. I read today that you can save a replay only if you don't restart.

I'll just have to do it again!

It's funny, because Ketsui of all things (a fairly barebones port) will still let you upload and save replays if you restart on stage 1, but even Futari (which is otherwise a very polished port) doesn't, so you have to quit out all the way to the menu like in SDOJ. I've never really understood the inconsistency.

I can't deal with the perspective changes in Eschatos. I want to like it so bad, but can't seem to adjust when the camera moves into an overhead position. I might have more incentive to deal with it if JSS and Cardinal Sins weren't on the disk, always tempting me to come play them instead.

WTF, in V . V, the first boss shoots more difficult patterns at you if you're using the search than if you're using the normal shot >_<

...Maybe it's trying to tell me "Stop using the search you pussy"

Yes, the game has rank based on your power level and weapon and shield, much like Gradius. You can actually get more points if you pick the specific weapon that gives the boss the most life, and then switch to the shot type that does the least damage.

My understanding, based on the GD that I was just reading, is that missile gives all the bosses the most life. When you say shot type do you mean tap vs hold?
