RQ: DoDonPachi DaiOuJou NMNB stage 3
RQ: DoDonPachi DaiOuJou NMNB stage 3
I'm trying to learn to NMNB certain sections of DOJ, but I'm stuck at a certain location, that I just can't figure out. The second half of stage 3. I herd bullets during this part, but getting through it without bombing or dying has been tough and inconsistent. Is there any particular strategy to take into account when facing the enemies in this area?
EDIT: I'm on white label.

On a serious note, the first half of stage 3 has an awesome flow to it, even if you are not watching superplays, the flow comes naturally after a while, while the second half is all about positioning, i would even say proactive positioning. You have to remember where the enemies are and get in position to herd them even before they are on screen.
and if you are just starting to play DOJ, i would suggest to drop any extra bombs as a way of rank management. watch the PS2 replay on a easy rank controlled 2-ALL

Re: RQ: DoDonPachi DaiOuJou NMNB stage 3
I think I've got it down now. Ive been away from DOJ for a while. I came back to it, and had a run. It's during this part that I almost always end up walling myself in at the expense of a bomb, hyper or life. So I was trying to iron it out.
What confuses me is the logic of this level. There is no law about which enemy to go for first, as the popcorns mess everything up.
But I think I've got it, I can get through this part with some consistency. You are right positioning early on is very important in this part. It's all about a mixture of tap dodging, bullet herding and positioning.

DOJ has rank? How did I not know this?!

If I remember correctly, hypers and maximum bomb bonus increase your rank. And apparently so does life stock.PAPER/ARTILLERY wrote:DOJ has rank? How did I not know this?!

Nearly got my first clear on it last week (final boss, seconds to go). Bit of rank management might be enough to push me to the 1cc

Re: RQ: DoDonPachi DaiOuJou NMNB stage 3
you have two kinds of rank in DOJ, one is stage rank and the other is hyper rank. with each stage the game gets harder (duh) and the more hyper you use the harder it gets. level 5 hyper increase rank more than level 1, when you hyper the rank shoots up, when the hyper is over it doesnt come back down to the same level as before. higher rank means faster patterns, and few more enemies in certain spots (stage 3 intro, 3 flying ships at higher rank). bombing reduces rank by a little, dying reduces twice as a bomb.
suiciding wont do much, so to keep rank low, drop extra bombs, use low level hypers whenever you can (you can actually let hypers float away).
there was a thread in the strategy section that provides a numerical breakdown.

Remember though that Hyper rank (which affects how fast bullets get when in a hyper, and get a slight permanent boost to speed after the hyper ends) increases MUCH less noticeably if you're playing Black Label. You can safely spam high level hypers in Black Label with much less danger of suddenly being under a super fast barrage, not to mention get hypers more easily, which makes Black Label easier to 1-All. From what I've heard, the maximum rank is higher in Black Label though, so the game can actually get more difficult in the second loop in terms of rank difficulty?

I'm thinking of moving to BL. It's just that I currently don't enough space for a crt to connect to my ps2. Does BL really alter things a lot. Seeing these replays, I can see a lot of difference, especially in bullet speeds and how fast enemies die.

Ah, this explains why I've sometimes had two of the big blue ships at the start of stage 3 but usually just the one. Caught me off guard the first time that happened.

I'm now trying to iron out another part of my run. It's the last part of Stage 4 the part with those machines moving left and right. I always end up using a hyper or a bomb in this location. It's scary because if I don't have a hyper or bomb, it means death.

i think you are supposed to use a hyper there, i have never managed a no miss without a hyper. also at the cannon, its pretty impossible to get the 1up without a hyper (unless you are extremely skilled, which i am not).mastermx wrote:I'm now trying to iron out another part of my run. I've managed to get through both parts twice without hyper or bombing. But I was day dreaming whilst I done it. So I have no clue what I done or how I done it lol. I can't find a replay of anyone doing it on the Internet. Perhaps you are right, perhaps hyper is a must for this part.

Yeah I think they intend for you to hyper at the 1up cannon, it's very nasty without it. Same thing with the 1up mid-boss on stage 4 of SDOJ, seems to be a trope of DDP games.

Re: RQ: DoDonPachi DaiOuJou NMNB stage 3
It's pretty easy to do the 1up cannon without hypers. Here's my technique, works just the same in 2-4 too. All the best replays hyper it simply because it's impossible to carry the chain otherwise.
The reason why you never see anyone do the rail cannons without hypers is also simply because using a hyper at the last enemies of the stage and having it end before the boss is the optimal choice there.

Easy for you maybe Erppo. For us mere mortals though...

Re: RQ: DoDonPachi DaiOuJou NMNB stage 3
Thanks for the vid erppo. Never knew you had a YouTube channel. Subbed.
At 12:35 in the video you activated your hyper. I'm trying to see if it's possible to do this part with no hyper or bomb at all. I know it's possible because I have done both the turrets and the cannon with no hyper or bomb. I can do the cannon part with some consistency just by herding the enemies. But the turrets are very inconsistent for me. I've only managed it a couple of times.

Re: RQ: DoDonPachi DaiOuJou NMNB stage 3
The part with the rail cannons can get pretty challenging since as far as I know the placement of the turrets is random. It's still very possible to do without a hyper but might require some tricky dodges sometimes thanks to the randomness. Your main attention should probably be in the blue popcorn fighters instead of the turrets, since they will trap you if you time your moves wrong.
That said, hypering at the moment I do (you can look at the laser cannon in the background to determine the timing) is a pretty good idea since it makes the section significantly easier and you will always get a hyper back from the bees at the end of the stage if your timing was right.

Placement is random! I had no idea.
I know I hate those blue zako. I always try and get rid of them as soon as possible. But those turrets, if they aren't destroyed in time stack. They will all be on screen creating a wave of bullets.
I worry that during a full run, I possibly won't have a hyper to spend on this part. This is why I'm trying to make sure that even in a bad situation I still have the skills to come out on top.

i would think so, too many risky dodges when there are strats to deal with them safely. that said, there is a video out there which is a no miss of hibachi, by WR class player.guigui wrote:Off topic but, please, tell me this is tool assisted :
