Neo-Geo X plus games on Groupon goods for $140

Post by boagman »

Hey all. Just happened to notice this on Groupon tonight: the horribly-rated Neo-Geo X portable for $140, and it comes with a big old pack of games, apparently. I want to remind people that this machine has been has been absolutely emasculated in reviews for being a horrible emulator with pretty substandard hardware, but if you're dying for one and it's something you need to collect, well...here's an opportunity to get it relatively cheap, I think.

I should also note that it comes with Free Returns, so if you hate it, apparently, they'll understand.

It's not just the shitty emulation. I preordered a Gold system, and it was impossible to charge it. It worked fine until it's initial battery ran dead, and then never worked again. I sent it back and received a new replacement system, and it had the exact same problem. In the end I just opted for a full refund. They are made from some really shoddy parts I think, and chances are even if it works initially it won't last very long. Throwing $140 away if you ask me.

The system was launched at premium price when in fact it wasn't. For the same price you could have a complete aes system or even buy a supergun to play MVS games wich is the real thing and not a shitty emulator in a really bad portable system wich deforms the graphics of the game by showing them in a 16:9 aspect ratio just widening the image :?
I don't know how people went and bought it at launch.
If you wait a bit more I'm sure you're be able to buy it for 100$ or less.

I bought it as a major SNK fanboy who assumed it was going to bomb quickly and be quite hard to find. I actually already own an AES, CDZ etc, so for me it was more of a collectors thing. And even as big a fan as I am, I still ended up getting rid of that shit.

Yikes. I heard the emulation was bad, but this makes me want to avoid them even more. Even SNK disowned them.

$140 doesn't sound that good ... I remembered when it was discontinued you could pick it up at Future Shop for $100 on clearance.

That's CAD$, btw.

$20 is the maximum I would pay for one.
