Screen Recording at low-res?
Am trying to record an old PC doujin. Runs in 640x480 and 256 colors. The game was for Windows 95 and uses Directx3. It runs fine in Win 7 64 by itself. However I've tried both Shadowplay and AmarecCo. Both produce garbage here. I've attempted to force the game into a window with DXWnd, but while the game runs, I get a black screen, game hasn't crashed as the sound effects work when I push the buttons, but I get no visuals.... Any ideas?

Have you tried recording in window mode? I know some games are much easier to record through that route.SuperDeadite wrote:Am trying to record an old PC doujin. Runs in 640x480 and 256 colors. Yes and thats the issue, the game has no windowed option, just fullscreen. And when forced via DXWnd, I only get a black screen...

Maybe you should try virtualization or just route the output to a capture card on a diff computer

I know this may sound stupid, have you tried pressing Alt+Enter or F4? What doujin game are you trying to record?

Whilst the game runs ok on it's own do you get the same results with the recording programs when running the game with various compatibility options?
rightclick on the exe > properties > compatibility >
compatibility for: (whatever windows, as well as original target try also xp), run in 256, run 640x480, disable visual themes ? ... Perhaps run this program as administrator as well.
You might also try changing your windows theme to 'classic' ... [right click desktop>personalize> basic and high contrast themes]... some programs conflict with aero which I think win7 basic was built from.
... but yeah odd problem if the game runs ok by itself...

Re: Screen Recording at low-res?
256 color modes make use of a variable palette of colors defined by the software driving it, unlike the per-pixel RGB values passed over 16-bit or higher modes. Direct capture is almost certain to not work under these conditions since they're probably not designed to account for the variable palette. You're probably going to have to use another computer to capture the output of the game.

Thanks for the info, gonna try running it in XP Mode and see if I can do a Shadowplay Desktop capture all at once. If not, might just do the old camera at the screen. The game is Mechanical Brain, it's a Darius Gaiden clone. Nothing too special, but no videos of it, so why not.
