BVM & Hanzo at 15KHz?
Hi. I want to ask if it's common for the Hanzo 15 KHz RGB switch not to work on a Sony BVM monitor (mine is a BVM-A). Normal Scart is working without issues.
Im getting the same issue with my LCD tv even without a VGA->Component converter box (needed for the bvm). I get a "no signal" or "out of range" message and a blue screen.
This means only the 31 KHz "VGA Mode" works on the Hanzo which isn't bad but still a few games need to run at 15 KHz.
Maybe someone using the Hanzo on a BVM or PVM know this. Is it common for VGA not to work in 15 KHz mode?
Thanks.

Re: BVM & Hanzo at 15KHz?
I thought the Hanzo is RGBHV only, while the BVM requires RGBs?
edit I see you're converting to component. Nevermind.
Btw your LCD TV wouldn't support 15khz over VGA.

How do you convert RGBHV to RGBs in 15khz mode ?

Re: BVM & Hanzo at 15KHz?
The Hanzo has a switch to change back and forth between 15 KHz and 31 KHz. I don't think it's converted into RGBs but only simple Component with the generic VGA to Component converter box.Fudoh wrote:How do you convert RGBHV to RGBs in 15khz mode ?
Right now im doing Dreamcast->Hanzo->VGA to Component Converter with internal sync (http://tinyurl.com/qdd7wgh). The connects have phono to BNC adapters on them and connected that way to my BVM.
The converter box is set at the lowest mode of 480p.
I've ordered a Kensei (for RGBs out) from the same guy who made the Hanzo. I pm'ed him about the problem i was having and he said that most modern tv's don't do 15KHz through VGA. I guess i just thought the BVM could handle it.
Not the biggest problem but it would be cool too have the option without having to change to a Scart cable each time a game wont run.
Maybe the Kenzei will fix it or else it also has the option of connecting a Scart to it pretty quick or i could look for some sort of VGA and Scart switch box. A few pictures of the units in the below links.

Re: BVM & Hanzo at 15KHz?
that's probably the issue. The converter you're using (no real transcoder as mentioned last week) doesn't work with non-VESA timings (e.g. 15khz).I don't think it's converted into RGBs but only simple Component with the generic VGA to Component converter box.

Could be.Fudoh wrote:that's probably the issue. The converter you're using (no real transcoder as mentioned last week) doesn't work with non-VESA timings (e.g. 15khz).I don't think it's converted into RGBs but only simple Component with the generic VGA to Component converter box.
I guess i'll just let him ship Kenzei and see for myself. He'll also ship a replacement Hanzo. That way i can be 100% sure it's not that unit.
For anyone that's interested heres the sony monitor specs:

No, 15khz RGBs will work fine on the BVM. And already get rid of that converter. I told you beforeOnly im a bit worried when the tv does the same thing without the converter.

Re: BVM & Hanzo at 15KHz?
I was talking about when i simply connect hanzo to the LCD tv with a VGA cable only (not the bvm) here:Fudoh wrote:No, 15khz RGBs will work fine on the BVM. And already get rid of that converter. I told you beforeOnly im a bit worried when the tv does the same thing without the converter.
Then the tv is not working with 15KHz either and it got me even more worried than if it had just been with the bvm and the converter box setup and i could rule out the Converter box as the culprit.spaceape wrote:Could be.Only im a bit worried when the tv does the same thing without the converter.

I hope we're understanding each other mate. Sometimes texting questions and answers can be confusing on the net. Take away whatever you understand out of my gibber jabber.

Re: BVM & Hanzo at 15KHz?
That's normal. There is no TV which accepts 15khz and 31khz on the same RGB input.
You're mixing up two very different kinds of signal here. It doesn't help that you're just chaining up components which share the same connector. It's like people trying to use those HDMI to VGA cables available on ebay (which don't work).

But why would the creator even give you that option with the Hanzo then?Fudoh wrote:That's normal. There is no TV which accepts 15khz and 31khz on the same RGB input.

I guess it's only few tv's that can do both through the VGA port.
Still i want to thank him for making such a great unit for us gamers.
Here's the manual if you want confirmation that the 15KHz and 31KHz switch is there. http://anten.com.tr/content_files/banne ... manual.pdf

Re: BVM & Hanzo at 15KHz?
I am using Panasonic plasma displays which don't have TV tuners and built for professional usage.
I have TH42PWD6, 42PWD7 which have native resolution of 480p and TH50PHD6 which is 720p. These are working fine with 15khz sources over VGA, 31khz too. I think these give better results on Dreamcast than my 60"Pioneer Kuro(best plasma TV).
Also I own a Pioneer PDP V402E, which accepts 15khz over VGA.
But these are all professional series monitors/displays not TVs.
People can use Hanzo with older VGA computer monitors that support 15khz too. It's the RGB mode of the Dreamcast similar to the one on the Euro RGB scart cable instead with H&V syncs.
Kenzei just merges these signals to get Csync. That is all about...

So it is possible to get both with the right display.beharius wrote:I am using Panasonic plasma displays which don't have TV tuners and built for professional usage.

Thanks a lot Yossi for calming my mind.

Guys, "There is no TV which accepts 15khz and 31khz on the same RGB input."
Of course there are some monitors that can do this, but I don't know of a single "classic" HDTV that can do this...

I guess it's kinda rare then (at least for consumer displays).Fudoh wrote:Guys, "There is no TV which accepts 15khz and 31khz on the same RGB input."

Re: BVM & Hanzo at 15KHz?
"Dreamcast ultimate RGB box mod – No more RGB cable swapping!" (by BuckoA51) uses a VGA switchbox and an ArcadeForge UMSA (could use a Kenzei instead). It doesn't switch the audio though (which technically is part of the SCART pin out) - I assume audio is routed directly from the Dreamcast VGA box to a separate audio amplifier.spaceape wrote:Even if it ends up being with the help of a switch box...
