Saturn - Sanyo or JVC - How to tell?

I'm looking into buying some official replacement lasers for my Saturns, but there seems to be two different types. Sanyo and JVC. Seems that most Saturns are JVC, but there are
some Sanyos.

Any way I can figure this out? I would prefer not to open up the system, but I can if it's necessary.

EDIT: I opened it up, and on the motherboard it says "ASSY CD UNIT JVC EXL-P605"

I would assume this is a JVC. Am I correct?

theres a way to tell if you laser is a Sanyo without opening it up , around the lens are coils if there are no coils its something else............


btw did you send your Saturn off to the repairer yet , remember the one about a month ago

Yes, I did send it to the repair guy.
The spindle was too low. It works very well now.

However, I'm having problems with a grindy sounding Playstation now. Ugh.

actually i just greased the rails and gears on 6 of my PS1's , they are easy as pie to work with.

simply once you've taken the screws out from underneath the PS1 take the top shell off , then the CD drive can be removed by 2 cables and it lifts right out.

theres 2 screws in the top of the CD drive they hold a cover on the drive , when the screws have been removed you slide the cover off and the internals of the drive are exposed.

from there you can inspect the drive to see if anything looks incorrect and is causing the ' grindy sound '

hi evil_ash i had a headache for a day and thats what caused the delay but im ok now so heres some pics................



in the below photo remove the screws where the red arrows are




from underneath slide the laser to roughly the middle , sometimes it will take some force to move the laser so if its hard to move dont stress it will move with some force




there are 2 tabs where the arrows are , they are easy to lift with your fingernail or small flathead screwdriver.

when the tabs are lifted the cover should be able to be removed , slide it and it will lift right out to expose the internals




stuff a small amount of tissue where the arrow is , remove when all greasing is done




below are photos where you should grease , also you will want to move the laser here and there as it covers some places to grease

Actually, yes. Just greasing it a bit made the difference.

Although, I just bought an unused PS1, and I think they just kind of have noisy drives. They sound kind of weird, compared to other disc based systems I own.
