Yes, that does clear things up lots. :D well the whole thing hinges on how groovy mame operates if I use the uvc. I guess il just have to try it out and see what happens. I have groovy mame working so nice atm so I definitely don't wanna mess that up. Hmm thinking about it I'm not sure that it will work since the uvc down scales the resolution. I'm not sure tho il just have to try it lol.

Thanks again for taking the time to help. :D

If you feed the UVC 640x480 from your PC with no resolution switching at all in GroovyMAME, the UVC will scale it down, yes, but for 320x240 games, this should be pixel perfect if you output to 15kHz. It's the games with other low res modes, like 320x255 or whathaveyou that wouldn't be perfect. It's a compromise on quality vs. how lazy you can allow yourself to be.

First of all, make a backup of your GroovyMAME folder (excluding the roms, snaps etc), just the configuration stuff. Then you could try just removing the ini file and see what it spits out.

Interesting thread, Ive always been interested in getting a Naomi for 31khz 360 480P action but it sounds like my Aero would look pretty sweet via a UVC and 24khz , Pretty sure Franco does all the relevant cables/switches so i dont have to keep reaching into the cab to switch from 15/24khz ? I presume it will look nothing like the 480I mess my Viletims adapter outputs for 360 ?

I take it an Aero is similar to an early Astro ?

The main question is, can you get your hands on an UVC?

That could be a problem lol . Wish someone would come up with a new design, im sure it would sell well

Ah I understand now :D
Hmm...in that case I would be reluctant to lose the auto switching functionality of groovyMAME, it just works way too nice :D + it took a serious amount of effort to get it working like that lol(thanks to calamity for that)

With the sound fix and the relays mod I should be able to get it down to switching the jamma harness being the only physical task I would have to do, which wouldn't be so bad. Does that kind of continual switching tend to cause harm to the jamma connections? that thing fits on tight!

I take it there is no jamma switch thing then? Someone should make one. Seems like it would be pretty easy. You would just need to make a pcb which has 2 jamma female one side and a male the other with some kind of long slide switch in the middle. Or maybe you wouldn't even need the switch since only one is on at any one time, same as what the sound joiner from earlier in the thread does? might be talking bollox here lol

Trevor I know where you can get a uvc, if you want one just pm me. And yeah 25k is awesome. I couldn't believe how "high res" it looked. :D

Just be sure not to put unnecessary strain on the wiring when you pull stuff out of the JAMMA connector.

Of course they exist. :D This for example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-in-1-Multi-JA ... 4ad1eeb278 Just be aware that this one powers both attached PCBs the whole time the cabinet is on.

Indeed. It's like high res + some subtle scanlines.

Ah cool :)
Any ideas what the implications would be having a jpac and a uvc powered constantly? Hmm not sure if I would want to have the extortionately expensive and precious uvc being always powered lol but maybe I would be ok with that.
Also what voltage does jamma use? Looking at that board it would be sweet if you could have the power to the relay coils wired into that switch so that when you switch boards it automatically powered the relays when the uvc was in use. Obviously you would want to power everything down before flicking the switch haha.

Edit. I just looked at the jamma pinout diagram and I see that there is a 12 volt feed :)
Also having thought about if for more that 2 nano seconds I realised that it would be easy to just change the switch for one with more poles and get the desired effect.

Do you have the relay mod done to any of your cabs emphatic? If so, where do you take the 12 volt feed for the relay coils from?

I own the relay setup (from FrancoB), but I haven't had time to install it yet. Too busy with kids. :( I will just add an optional 12V line to the fingerboard that powers my UVC so I can default back to 15kHz. The cab with the UVC inside hasn't had any 15kHz use in about 4 years. :D

I can relate to that, I only have only one kid and it's very hard to find time to do anything lol. Another on the way tho...yikes!
The one Franco b sells doesn't look like it will fit my chassis. The connectors look like they are bigger on the ms8. I will have to try and find a connector or I might just solder the wires directly to the pins. Luckily I mess about with relays and wiring on a daily basis so I know what I'm doing there. (Repair access machinery)
Ok well it looks like I have a plan. Il just have to order the few bits I need and crack on. Getting close now, nearly there :). You are a lucky man to have multiple Candys, good work!!
I love too many arcade games to dedicate this one way or another. This things gonna be flippin an a switchin all over the place haha. Hopefully I won't break it....
