Like calling any background effect 'mode 7', or using the term '16 bit' or '8 bit' for pretty much anything at all.

Reaaaaaaally annoying, and I know it shouldn't annoy me so much, but it really does.

I've heard people refer to certain ICs on snes motherboards as "the mode 7 chip"...

St. Patrick's Day is largely a pointless holiday for me. The whole "wear green or get pinched" thing seems silly to me. I don't care for beer-chugging festivities either. (Plus I'm not one for beer; I'm more of a wine and cocktail person.)

On another note: When people post "shocking" articles, but don't check to see if what they're reading is legitimate or a hoax of some sort.

Yes, getting random blisters trying to unscrew the tail cap on a 4 cell Maglite...funny thing is the thing gave some light not terribly long ago (pretty sure) and the batteries haven't been in there THAT long, I am sure.

Not worth buying strap wrenches or sending it in, I'm afraid.

First off, Square Enix music != Uematsu music. Secondly, overhyped doesn't mean bad. Some of my favorite songs are from Final Fantasy, but that doesn't mean I don't like music from other games, as well.

What annoys me is that Kai simply said "Square Enix music fans" when he's really talking about people who worship FF above all else. Which I agree is annoying.

Speaking of music, people who give 5/5 and 10/10 to pretty much every song they hear on Newgrounds. "hey, this song is alright." ZOMG NOW I RATE 5/5 10/10! As a result, pretty much every song has an average rating of nearly 5 stars.

So I've been entertaining the in-laws since about 3pm. The primary motivating thought through all of this has been to hit the favorite watering hole after hours.

About 9pm everyone crashes and I go to head out, only to find that one of them managed to park in the most amazing fashion so as to block in every fucking car I own. Fuck.

The way headphones works, or not works, on my Surface Pro (and possibly Windows 8.1 in general).
If you're already running something, like a flash video, and you plug headphones in, the sound will continue coming from the speakers until you restart the application.
Even if headphone output is set to "default" and it shows up as such.

Try Youtube Center. It's both an extension to most browsers and a Greasy Monkey script, with it you can tweak a ton of stuff on YT.
The particular setting for this is disabling DASH video playback, which makes the videos buffer completely again and seeking to a part already buffered doesn't destroy the buffer. The downside is that YT disabled non-DASH formats for 480p and 1080p, so you'll be confined to 240p,360p and 720p if you disable DASH.
Sadly, it's full of memory leaks when changing settings, but still worth it IMO. And hey, you'll get to relive that classic YT + Firefox experience which post-3.6 versions really can't emulate.

I figured it out under freebsd, I think. Disabled all system beeps, and the one beep the machine does when you plug in to mains/unplug is really soft now [that part was a happy accident, I dunno how to adjust it further ].

and then this morning I awoke to bring the machine up as normal, and apparently freebsd's NDIS wrapper thing hates these wifi drivers -- started X shortly after loading them, everything dies horribly, disk corruption, system got stuck in a reboot loop, did fsck in single-user mode and said yes to everything

but apparently, doing anything with the machine while wifi is connecting is cause for a crash
