12/05/05 - Mr. Hit's first run netted (MAME Japanese DP ROM set, but I might do some Saturn runs because the pad's so godly)

crithit5000 - 3,214,710 - 1-4 - Type A

That's approximately 300,000 lower than my highest score in DP. Suckage.

Second run was complete horseshit where I somehow ran into everything possible in 1-2. Score was like 1,1xx,xxx...kill me. Will improve tomorrow.

12/06/05 - After about 4 subpar runs (all below 3 mil), I finally put together a run where I didn't die during 1-2 or 1-3...which, must really kick the game's rank up. Christ, 1-4 gets a bit hectic...

Oh, and I totally got a new high score for DP-

I'm seeing a trend here

I'm not too much of a DP fan. The first couple of levels are pretty boring and the last two throw cheap attacks at you constantly. The third level is more or less the reason I play it, as it is so well balanced. I think I'll keep at it, though.

As noted in the other DonPachi thread, there are significant differences between the US PCB (which is the set named "donpachi" in MAME) and the Japanese PCB (which the console versions are based on and which is named "donpachj" in MAME)

What's the difference between the Jap and the US version?

I am playing the US version in Mame... I also have the Saturn version which I could play...

The US version gives you more bombs at the end of a level, and certain enemies have less health.

I remember reaching stage 4 playing the Saturn version.. is the version played in Mame harder?

I think I'll also switch my ship, it seems I am the only one playing with Type B here... I find Type C too slow for my liking, and it's too dificult for me to chain with Type A.

edit: HEY! Now I am in last place in Tier 2 ! Please, someone should joing so I can be the CHAMPION OF TIER 3 !!

HEY! Gaijinpunch, in what level are you playing in the Saturn version?

The default in Saturn is "Little easy", while I think the arcade version should be played in "Normal"

Can anyone clear this up? I remember reading somewhere that the defaul saturn difficulty was indeed easier than the default arcade, so you should put the saturn version in "normal" to match up the arcade version.

Most people coming from DDP to DP start with Type C (and may not even try the other ships) because it's godly in DDP... but it really is too slow in DP. Although the "role" of each of the ships is the same in each game, their specific characteristics are balanced quite differently.

Shadowhand -- yes, the defeault is Little Easy (whatever the fuck that means) but I set it to Normal. I got to stage 4 w/ all my lives, and lost them in like 2 minutes. I was tired though.

Well, if the inp is uploaded to marp, you just have to check marp. If it's accepted, then it's valid.

No one is more anal about validating hi-score than marp

Little easy indeed sounds very dumb, heh

YES, not in the bottom anymore..

After panic bombing all the time in the 3rd boss because I had no more lives left, I survived around 10 seconds in level 4, and I was killed by an enemy who CAME FROM BEHIND WITHOUT ANY WARNING..

OOOHH, that was SO UNFAIR... crashing into ships shouldn't kill me!
