Re: M2 Toaplan collection

Why are we discussing the Bitwave versions in the M2 thread? It makes this confusing as hell to read and disappointing when it gets bumped for unrelated reasons.

I searched the forums and this is where it's being talked about. *shrug*

This forum often has very large all-inclusive threads rather than lots of smaller ones, I think. I'd rather the conversation be somewhere else too, but this is where it is.

This thread should be renamed, or a new one started for the bitwave stuff. It is disappointing every time this gets bumped and there is no new M2 Toaplan release.

100% in favour of having a general Toaplan thread. That is basically what this has become anyway.

For the record, I bought the bitwave Toaplan collections to my Switch 2 in christmas. They played fine and the highscore music in Truxton matched on what I heard from my PCB. Havent checked the PC version if that is patched or not.

Renamed the thread.

That's a different collection. The new one is briefly mentioned there though, yes.

It290, neat fix. :)

The English version of Kyukyoku Tiger-Heli is now listed on the EU and US eShop. Release date is February 26 at €30. Like with the JP release, all the home console ports are DLC (€15). Plus you get Teki Paki as a bonus.

I'm guessing this is the same version Limited Run released a while ago? They don't seem to be involved, though. M2 is listed as the publisher.

Sweet. I own the JP disc but this needs more support, getting the CR disc later.

I see that both Twin Cobra & Tiger-Heli + the bonus game will released digitally on the USA region Nintendo eShop portal and PS4 USA region PS Store portal as well on 2/26/2026.

This is just their parent company dropping an easy release off the back of the Limited Run edition. I don't recall seeing they'd picked up the other two compilations. Not sure who this is for really, as only Tiger Heli (via the awful NES port) got a home release in Europe. And the console ports are the only selling point above the existing Toaplan compilations - anyone who really wanted it would've imported a long time ago!

I'd say it's for everyone else.
If Clear River puts out a physical, it will be available at most retailers everywhere, and typically as a budget prices too, making it easy for anyone who's just curious to check it out, without needing to import expensive copies.

Hell, I'll probably double-dip just to get English language options

Which would make sense, had Clear River not also (digitally and physically) published two volumes of Toaplan already - Tiger Heli and Kyukyoku Tiger are on the same volume (along with a bunch of other games). The kind of person who'd take an M2 release over "the same thing + moar games" has already got it.

They haven't announced pricing yet but the US one is up for $35 (without DLC) so doesn't even look like it'll be significantly cheaper than importing it *checks notes* 4 and a half years ago. Feels like the bad old 16-bit days of trying to be thankful for a PAL release years down the line.

Less than half the price does seem significantly cheaper to me

They're doing a physical Ultimate Tiger Heli too. Standard retail, UK Amazon listings are already up - £40 physical (with all DLC on cart) vs £26 digital (+ £13 for the DLC). A bit disappointed there's not a special edition with an OST disc and some other extras.

I still think there's a very limited market for this, given the games (plus loads more games) are already on Clear River's own two Toaplan volumes - each cheaper than just one of these M2 collections. Yes the emulation is better, yes you get bonus stuff but is the more casual fan bothered? This is basically for those of us who hope it'll do well enough to bankroll more Toaplan Arcade Garage, isn't it!

A dollar short day late on this one. Only benefits I could see with this and the second release of the Tiger games is the more reasonably difficult versions of the games actually have gadgets. Kind of sucks that Fire Shark does not have them.

Since these are physical on PS4 I could grab them, I never imported these.
