Re: What are you currently listening to?
The Rolling Stones - Beggars Banquet/Let It Bleed/Sticky Fingers
When I visited my parents earlier in the summer they commented that they were going to take a couple of boxes of old records to a local second hand joint (mostly full of the type of junk that makes up the bulk of my parents' record collection, but I did get a UK first pressing of the Ramones' second album there). I picked out a couple of bits 10 years previously but decided to rescue a few more points of interest - chiefly The Rolling Stones and Elvis LPs and 45s.
My Dad said he loved The Rolling Stones until Brian Jones left, and that he only had the Sticky Fingers LP because the cover was controversial. So no Exile On Main St and a lot of covers-based LPs I have yet to listen to, but Beggars Banquet is a legitimately great record. His music taste is otherwise questionable as, besides the usual dire 60s/70s version of Now! compilations, the bulk is dreary commercial prog and jazz (in one case I couldn't work out if an EP was supposed to be played at 33 1/3 or 45... it was that dubious at either speed).
The cartridge died on my parents' record deck before I was born and they never replaced it, so this is the first time these records have been played in the best part of 35 years. Which is pretty cool!

Re: What are you currently listening to?
I am currently listening to the Phantom of the Opera soundtrack. In particular "all I ask of you" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1_5hhr6niQ
Not my usual fare and not my favourite from the soundtrack but it suddenly holds particular significance for me. I left an Ex nearly ten years ago on good grounds and I have been in love with the girl ever since, somehow I could never forget about her and shake it. I had avoided contact with her for all these years because it was the only way I thought i'd be able to forget about her but I can't; She was 30 recently and because it was a special birthday I sent some flowers and a card (she lives over 300 miles from me)
I found out she's getting married next summer. Even though i've not spoken to her in so long and I couldn't expect her not to move on this news is upsetting and now I feel like the phantom in the story, having to let go of a true love and knowing I will never see her or speak to her again.
sucks balls.

Was so surprised to find this band. My dad got the CD for £1 because he appreciated the effort the band went to in dressing up in maks and disco ball cowls.
Turns out it's a sort of sci fi prog rog disco chamber orchestra and that that is my favourite thing. Would recommend fans of the Mars Volta take note.

Been dabbling in classic Cronos/Mantas/Abaddon-lineup Venom, via various live clips. These guys...
Their 1984 Hammersmith/Seven Dates of Hell show is good stuff - balls to the wall and brief. Ripped the audio for authentically muddy portable listening. Ain't rocket science but it's fun!

Fun Fact: Slayer were the only thrash outfit evil and scary enough to record The Theme Song of Brianna Wu.

Listened to some Van Halen earlier, and am now listening to Metallica. Holy fuck are they good. It's pretty awesome listening to it while browsing the CWCki.

New Wovenhand and Planes Mistaken For Stars tracks. New Wovenhand LP in Sept, Planes in Oct, and Dillinger Escapes Plan at some point too. Still need to pick up that album by the Mastodon, Alice In Chains and At The Drive in guys too.

Chet Baker. All day.
Check out this Costello cover. Chet's phrasing. Man, gets me everytime.
He has not got a great voice but his vocals at the end are so expressive. Exceptionally well sung.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4PKzz81m5c
Costello's (original) - bland
moyet's - ok
Tracey Thorn's - whatever
Krall's - oh, fuck off

Not a big fan of Diana Krall, to be honest. Song is great, thanks for sharing.Zen wrote:Chet Baker. All day.

Re: What are you currently listening to?
I heard Guns N' Roses' "Welcome to the Jungle". Is it about BDSM? And does "I wanna watch you bleed" mean that the singer wants to watch the supposed girl listening have her period (presumably because he gets off on it)?

Re: What are you currently listening to?
Oh hi ag. No it's actually about Axl's reaction to LA insanity after moving there from bumfuck Indiana. Supposedly the famous YOU KNOW WHERE YOU ARE/YOU GONNA DIE is from a random bum encounter. They apparently recorded Authentic Shagging Action for "Rocket Queen" though, some stupid shit like that. Killer song btw, best on album imo. Nice funky riff. I can turn on anyone just like I turned on you is a quality double entendre!

Also: is Van Halen's "Ice Cream Man" about his jizz? If so, does he have Fanta flavor
?

Re: What are you currently listening to?
Fanta flavoured jizz?! Ha ha, I sure hope not ag! That's almost as juvenile and gross yet dully predictable as something Chris Chan might come up with! I -

(BIRU is thinking...) "I'm so sorry shumpsfarm, I finally figured it out. ag99 is none other than Chris Chan. >_< He must've followed me back here after one of my indulgent evenings chortling at CWCville Auditorium videos, and is now exacting some kind of twisted retribution on the forum at large. My LOLcow addiction has finally brought a curse down upon us all. Comrade BLOODF, forgive this wayward soul..."
Ahem. ag have you heard Plaster Caster by famous 70s American rock group KISS? It's actually about a chick who makes plaster casts of her innumerable lovers' cocks for future use as dildos! I'm not sure how true it was, but that Gene Simmons was a right rascally bugger, so who knows! Ha ha! It's definitely a song you could joshingly suggest was about your pal's mom for a ribald laugh, although I'd be careful to ensure he's a real bro first!

Re: What are you currently listening to?
Used to not associate Battle Gear 2 "dad rock" music with Zuntata, but this morning I time-attacked "Bonus Course 4" (as it's called in Tokyo Road Race) for the first time and the tune was unmistakably theirs. Neither the track, nor any that course gameplay vid appears to be on YouTube right now, which is crazy weird.
P.S. Found one, but I can't even tell whether the music's on there.

"The Night Diver" is a great hard rocker. Actually, it was seeing BG3 footage of the classic HachiRoku tearing it up to that song that immediately convinced me to grab a copy. ^__^

Re: What are you currently listening to?
So militant... Few game soundtracks has the "going to war" quality like that.
P.S. "Into the Gap" is the pretty Zuntata one I was on about previously.

My dad told me that he went to a Jethro Tull concert the night before his SATs, forgot about the test, and got to bed at 2 in the morning.

Some here might appreciate this

Hypnopazuzu, the brand new collab between David Tibet and Youth (from Killing Joke).
Gotta admit it's a bit one note, and the stuff that will catch your attention on one song is basically what keeps you on board all the way through, with little new to shake things up. That said, the whole thing is quite an amazing listen, and definitely magick with a K.
I'm actually not normally a fan of Tibet's unique vocals, but on this album I think it comes together really well, with a very approachable sound.

Swan Lake - Enemy Mine
I found this album to be pretty interesting. It was a good experience since I was feeling that, at this rate, any kind of music would hardly surprise me. Its one of those albuns that you keep trying to decide if its any good while listening for the first time. In the end, I realised that it is.
