After the somewhat positive experience with Bari-Arm, I've been on a Mega-CD kick:

Yeah... I'm actually going for an SCC here... also, Fuck Level 5! You're lame-ass afterburner burst does not a rear-shot make. Also, the third form of the stage 6 boss can suck a fatty (to hell with those orange wind lasers).
PS. Minzoku calls this the farting shmup.
Silpheed
I still think this game looks beautiful (definitely sounds beautiful). The one thing that continues to make it difficult is the shear speed at which every enemy attacks you (plus last-minute sniping just as an enemy leaves the screen) plus the fact that the only decent weapons of the V-Shot and Phalanx Beam.
Keio Yuugekitai
The cloud-stage (with all the airplanes/jet fighters) is really starting to annoy me. Also, what the hell is the super attack carrier boss (the little whack-a-mole type guy) saying when he pops out?
Dennin Aleste
The blue laser is great... too bad you can't see shit through it (like those sniping gold bullets bullets). The green mech boss (the one who fires sickles and lightning blasts) at the end of stage 5 (I think... fucking Compile stages take 3 years to complete) is currently a thorn in my side.

So I played Giga Wing Generations some more, and I have to say that this PS2 just doesn't feel very polished to me. I'd like to play the arcade version to get a comparison in order to see if it's just this port that rubbed me the wrong way about the game. Aside from that, the music is okay, but I feel "bleh" about the rest of the game.
Border Down is next, I suppose. I could play it just to hear the severely varied soundtrack.

Aye. It's a blessing and a curse, one of the few faults I can find in most Compile shmups.Kiken wrote:fucking Compile stages take 3 years to complete
After the somewhat positive experience with Lords of Thunder I thought I might give some more Sega CD a try. Dennin's fun, but I never spent much time on it. Because fucking Compile stages take 3 years to complete!Kiken wrote:After the somewhat positive experience with Bari-Arm, I've been on a Mega-CD kick:

Still playing DonPachi. Never have I had so much fun with a Cave game or helicopters. Cave chaining is cool too.
I think that's about it right now.

Yea, that one's annoying. But what i really hate is the last boss' machinegun. Unless you can squeeze between streams with sub-pixel precision you MUST bomb. What an asshole.FIL wrote:I'm trying to beat Battle Bakraid (normal) right now. I'm terrible at the scoring but I can get to stage 6 pretty much every time.
Its those damn midbosses that get me, particularly the red one that flails about.
Anyway, right now i'm playing Cyvern. 2nd stage is longest, most epic boss fight ever. But i can't get past those stupid swarms of bugs in 3rd.

Still playing DonPachi. Helicopters are very fun. Whoever said the helicopter was the worst ship should be shot, even if it is technically true.

Other than shmups, only The King of Fighters 95. Iori had 1211 from the start. And that is cool.
Also playing Daioh, which is fun. I'm going to focus on beating the US version before I go to the Japanese version. Which has only TWO buttons, as opposed to the US six. You can only have one weapon at a time. Each weapon still has it's own bomb however.rolins wrote:Daioh a vertical shooter by Athena.
Cool vertical shooter that requires 6 buttons. There's one button assigned to 3 types of shots + 3 types of bombs, but each one varies in strength and range. Gameplay is solid and but really it adds nothing new, just think of Shienryu. It's really a short game with 7 stages, the last being a total boss battle out of Nexzr.

I'm waiting for the nex-gen version where you can put spinners, hydros, and bitchin' flame decals on your moon patrol buggy. Let's hear it for Electronic Arts!Rob wrote:Moon Patrol lol
Oh, I'm playing Flying Shark. This plane is so slow, but that probably prevents me from getting myself killed more often than it kills me.

I had to test my new PS-2 to USB adapter, so I completed it in the process!

Ironic that I JUST discovered this awesome game, and you happened to have mentioned it there. Good stuff. Interestingly, one of my favorite anime designer/directors (Masami Obari), did all the various mecha designs for "Bari-Arm" (hence the title, "Bari").Kiken wrote:Bari-Arm...

I'm also juggling these games;
Arrow Flash (Genesis)
Armed Police Batrider (Arcade)
Dimahoo (Arcade)
Having too much fun, over here.
