Hokum: DMC - 2,918,150 - 2-ALL

I increased my pb with 200k, mostly by milking the last boss a bit, particularly in the first loop. I would like to get 200k more to reach Battletoads and Rob's scores, but those 200k would be more tricky I believe. Not even sure where the biggest remaining gains are.

Hokum: DMC - 3,194,400 - 2-ALL

Run went really well up until final boss. First loop score was 1.73M.
I no-missed to the final boss for the first time, but I arrived there without special attacks and didn't really have a plan how to deal with the big rocks section so lost three lives there
. I tried to milk it as best as I could but it's a poorly memorized section at this point.
Strats include a mix of Maxpeed, RST, and Battletoad's replays (from the Wiki video index). For example, the strat for Loop 1 Stage 5 boss (second phase) was based on RST's replay, and Loop 2 version strat was based on Maxpeed's replay. I don't milk the boss as they do though.
The scoring system is interesting (i.e., kill some planes as late as possible because they release more e-cubes the longer they have stayed on screen).
The fact that you can actually see the increase of e-cubes on top of the enemy planes is such a huge visual feedback phenomenon. Makes it extremely rewarding to learn how to improve the score on them.
For example, the enemies in this figure can give up to four extra e-cubes if you delay the kills long enough.

This fact, and the 360 controls are the games biggest standouts. I'll probably make a commentary track talking more about this at some point.

Re: Zero Gunner 2
That run was on fire! Great scoring, too. GG!
Any further plans on improving this or is that it for the time being? It certainly looks like a score one can be satisfied with.
(Not sure if this thread gets another update? If a new one is opened, make sure you do it before Despatche does so, as this means yet another zombie thread

Re: Zero Gunner 2
Thanks, guys!
Taking a longer break to save some time for other hobbies/work.
I had fun with ZG2 all the way so I wouldn't mind polish the score up a bit, get closer to Maxpeed/RST if I deem it feasible.
I'm pretty happy with settling with Souky / Great Mahou / Zero Gunner 2 and alternate a bit between them.
(If one more player jumps in and play this game some I am happy to host the board.)

Wow, very sweet run! Just watched it. The 2nd loop was fire, a few close calls, but super well executed. Congrats!DMC wrote: ↑Sun Oct 05, 2025 8:48 am Hokum: DMC - 3,194,400 - 2-ALL

Thank you for the trip down memory lane. It's nice to finally see someone play ZG2 seriously.
I remember getting the record back in November 2011, the best feeling (14 years ago...
At that point I had played the game on/off for about 2 years and then had 2 weeks off while recovering from a little surgery. Played ZG2 a lot in these weeks and finally got the clear.
You even got the 2-ALL with all 3 helicopters, hot damn. Much respect!
