I bomb-spammed Neon Light Illusion, because I'm not a bad enough dude to rescue the president. Likewise, I bomb-killed Deadly Crescent (who was harder than usual), and used all my lives and bombs to kill Risk Storage (I didn't die until the final stage). That adversely affected the final score, but I got the goal! I was consciously over-cautious with the final boss, panic-bombing before many major attacks (like the giant energy ball attack), and mashing fire like crazy during the invincibility window.

Well, like most things, you sort of say to yourself "this is a practice run," and by the time I got to the final boss, I thought "well, I don't think I'll win, but I'll see what I can do." When it killed me the first time, I knew that the only chance of beating it was bomb-spam, and by that final bomb I was getting a little tense.

Woo, I can finally post in this thread! 1CC'd the first loop of Ketsui, my first 1CC of anything*. I came within like 2 pixels on the boss life bar a few years back but haven't come close since then (granted partly cause I hadn't played that much), stage 5 usually destroys me pretty quickly. This time got through and had a spare bomb and another life left at the end.

*Not counting SDOJ Novice and iOS DFK at least, although I did get the 2nd loop on that one. Also have a few other near 1CCs too, at least I know I'm not cursed with them now.

Because you don't like Ketsui, or because you don't think you can?

Also, grats on the Kets 1-ALL japtor.

Congrats man! After seeing your play at arcade game's meet, I'm not surprised this came pretty quick. Pretty reasonable score too. :D

Wow! As a first 'proper' 1CC, that is a brilliantly impressive debut! Well done. I'd love to think I could 1CC Ketsui, but I doubt it! How long did you put in?

Thanks! Finally paired up a good stage 4 run with playing out of my mind on stage 5, for me anyways. I think I had 3 lives on the counter going into it, so with the extend that means I still died three times.

Well I got it in 2004 or early 2005, but there's been a lot of down time. I got to the point where 4 became manageable pretty early (after being a huge wall for a while), but stage 5 has always wrecked me. Like my progress on stage 5 from 2005 to 2013 was pretty much nil, partially cause I didn't play a lot, but still when I did it was always a killer, so this run was really really out of nowhere. Outside of arcade game's meet and up until a few days ago in my own cab, I haven't touched Ketsui in a few months.

In general though if I'm playing something, I just sit down and play like 30 minutes to an hour, somewhat daily. At this point with Ketsui it takes a day or two or three to get back to what I'd expect (stage 4-5, 50-70M). Probably not that good for fast progress but I figure it's enough time to usually get a decent run or two in and it keeps me playing more consistently over a longer period without burning me out.

That's pretty much how I used to play Strikers 1999 at the arcade in college now that I think about it. Just played a bit between classes for a few months, went from a credit feeder at first to eventually getting the high score, pretty sure that was also on a crazy run out of nowhere. So I guess just do what you need to do to keep on playing, eventually you'll break through.

Nothing crazy i guess, being one of the easier caves, but happy nonetheless as it's my second cave clear.

Hey, DFK's no cakewalk, those laser wheels on stage 5 will eat you alive if you're hoping your autobombs will hold out. Now go for a Power style clear! :D

I want to stick to Strong a bit, to be able to clear it consecutively. And look at that score (or rather, the lack of it!). I guess i will rather try to make a clear with the B-Ship.

Somehow did it again and just barely broke 90M with the end bonus :D. Lost three lives on stage 5 again, except the extend helicopters flew away so I was cutting it pretty close this time, had quite a few miracle dodges helping me out.

I think I'm getting pretty close to my scoring limit, 95-100M seems doable with normal "good" scores for every stage, 110M if I'm scoring like crazy. Not sure whether to keep pushing it or take a break with something else. I think Espgaluda was another one of my "near 1CCs", might be a good time to get back to that one.

Coincidentally, I just 1ccd Espgaluda ^.^ Had a serious "ARE YOU F****** KIDDING ME!?!?" moment when the final boss's third form happened. Also, that final attack is complete BS and Cave should feel bad for making it.

Jakou's last attack is overrated in difficulty. The large orbs are slow and have small hitboxes like every other bullet, it's just a matter of getting comfortable squeezing through them. They look a lot tighter than they are, and the vertical bullets that drop down are spaced out enough that they're not too big of an issue so long as you plan ahead. The last attack in the game is significantly easier than the second-last attack in the game in terms of the difficulty of the pattern itself. The reason it is overrated difficulty-wise is that you can't bomb it away or kakusei it down for damage (finishing it off with kakusei is very lucrative though).

Seseri's last attack in Stage 5-1 is harder to nomiss/nobomb, as is Jakou's second last attack (very difficult, but still possible when you know how it works). Both have way more restrictions on your movement and difficult speed variations in the bullets fired.

Well I couldn't get past the first part of Ketsui without dying a bunch of times now so I guess that's that...well good thing I sandwiched the Ketsui and Espgaluda boards, made for a nice quick switch.

Speaking of which:

Doh. I knew it was coming, and it was probably the best I've done on that part. The million other forms before that I absolutely blew it though. Just died once to that point (probably the best I've ever done, including no miss/bomb Seseri!) then lost 4-5 lives on the other forms. On the plus side I guess I might be able to do it after all, but apparently I can't score worth a damn looking at the high score thread.

And now Espgaluda is done! Usually play Tateha but tried Ageha on a whim and did it, almost lost it trying to milk the last form, that one sound comes on way too early for how long it takes to finish him off. Died on my second to last life, then went right back into kakusei again and everything turned red at the last second.

Grats on the clear. With respect to the last form, the reason it's tricky to go for the kakusei finish is he puts up a barrier that deflects damage when you're in kakusei mode. You literally only do like a 1/10th of the damage you'd normally do, so you need to get him right to the brink of death (a second or two after you hear the death sound, then go into kakusei mode and hope you're just at that margin where it'll kill him before you run out of gems.

Not a big accomplishment really but I managed to NMNB the Stage 6 wall in Battle Garegga with Golden Bat for the first time in an actual run on the Saturn port (which lacks the slowdown).

Heh, half the reason I switched to kakusei was to try to do more damage to get it over with as quickly as possible. Whoops.
