I started Demon's Souls again. After having forgotten most of the layout of the levels, this game is still that good.

Finally beat DDS after 70 hours. I know it isn't supposed to take that long, and I didn't even beat all the optional bosses. By the last ten hours the game was becoming very frustrating because of the enemies that had no weaknesses, lots of hit points, and gave little to no experience. I think the best part of the final ascent is how the soundtrack keeps ramping up. Story was an expected WTF.

Not gonna play DDS right away. Definitely want to take a little break from SMT before jumping right back in to what sounds like it is effectively the same game but has the second half of the story.

Katamari Damacy [PS2].

Good fun, although all the screaming is a little unsettling with the happy music in the background after you start picking up people and buildings and whatnot.
[EDIT] ended up 1 meter short on the Make the Moon mission, gaaaaaah.
That felt terrible.

Mario 3D Land [3DS].

On World 6-Airship so far. Things are actually getting somewhat difficult, although that might just be because autoscrolling is so poorly done in this game.

Started Battalion Wars 2, this time for real. Still have mixed feelings as military service is a far cry from my idea of fun (and this game is about following orders rather than giving them). Also, the animations are bad (to be fair, WH40K: Dawn of War and Warcraft III animations are equally bad; why this is the case after Ground Control and SpellForce - I do not know). Nice explosions, though, and good controls. I wonder why there's no game like Diablo or Ys for the Wii (from what I know).

Went back to playing Dark Souls--made a 4th build and am running pretty quickly through the game. I remember my initial frustration, but I think Sen's fortress is my favorite part of the game. Probably the closest thing to some sort of 8 or 16 bit castlevania with all the traps, magic and well-placed enemies. First time 'round I actually used the forest hunter trick to level up my character quickly, but c'mon folks, 4th build. Also skipped most of Blight Town, coz really, who likes Blight Town?

I just finished playing Home and wow, was I ever impressed. At first the game seems extremely bland and simple; it was only by the end that I realized the true joy of the game comes not from playing through a story, but from you interpretation of the events. You seen there isn't really a definitive plot to Home, just a series of unnerving discoveries that suggest different things, but never conclusively tell you for sure what happened, what didn't and whether or not your assumptions are correct. The developer even has a page dedicated to recording what players thought happened, so that your story can be shared. It's a very artistic concept, but one that creates an absolutely amazing experience when the final realization hits you.

Brilliant way to kill an hour.

Virtual On Oratorio Tangram [DC].

Completely and utterly stuck on that midboss that looks vaguely like 2 of Z-Gradt stuck together. If I stop moving to do some damage, I get hit. If I keep moving, I still get hit. Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

Daytona USA: CCE [Saturn].

I am just bad at this game. I can only do well on Three Seven Speedway because it is stupid easy, all of the other courses make me screw up somehow.

Crazy Taxi [DC].

Just noticed the game settings weren't on defaults. Blaaaah. Setting everything back to defaults makes the game way harder than I can recall it being. Much more exciting though, because I noticed that the timer leniency was set really high before, so I could make tons of mistakes, get to a stop, and be able to get my time back easily. Not so much anymore.

Just beat Dead Space (360) and am already about halfway through Dead Space 2 (360).

Excellent games, both of them. By the end of DS1, I was getting a little tired of the combat - too easy on Medium difficulty, I'm guessing, since I'm sweating bullets and living health pack to health pack in DS2 on Survivalist. Overall, I think I prefer the tone of the first - the second comes across as being sort of a Bioshock wannabe - although I guess it's a bit of a System Shock wannabe, but it really works well. The weapons are really creative and fun to play with, although only a few are really worth using on the first playthrough, where you really have to manage upgrades.

My only big gripe so far is I really wish they'd carried the zero-g system from DS1 over to DS2. It was freaking brilliant, and they replaced it with what amounts to Wing Commander controls. O well.

Also, Ghegs via the rolling-start forum has got me on a racing game kick, so I've been toying around with NFS: Hot Pursuit (360), Ridge Racer 2 (PSP), OutRun 2006 (PSP), Burnout Dominator (PSP), GRiD (360). It's kind of like when I first downloaded my first slew of mame roms...

Bit more WipeOut, finally getting somewhat used to it again. It's odd, but it really does feel more 'floaty' than subsequent games. Anyone know if any of these tracks were reused? Don't remember seeing them in any of the games I've played, that I can remember.

Hooked myself to Wing Commander universe/Privateer/Vega Strike and so on. Goodness, I should have done this much earlier in my life (instead I got myself hooked to Freespace first several years ago, strange huh).

I'll straight-up admit to using a trainer on the PC version to get souls. I don't use the infinite stamina/health cheats or the stat cheats or dupe items, but souls? Fuck yes. I've played through the game more times than I can remember, and I've spent probably a good 50-60 hours farming souls across various characters. It's unbelievably easy and nothing but time-consuming, so if I can bypass that bullshit with the push of a button instead of spending a few hours in the forest or dark Anor Londo doing the exact same stupidly-easy bullshit for hours on end so I can actually play the game... yeah.

Transformers : Fall Of Cybertron

Really enjoyed it, full a fan service but still has solid gameplay and very pretty to look at. Had alot of fun with it and now I'm playing it on hard. G

Journey

OMG why didn't I play this sooner. It controls so well and it's incredibly pretty. Very differnt and highly recommended. I got the retail release and it was worth every penny of the 30.00 bucks I spent.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Yeah, I hear you. At times I feel the game is much less for the grinding, and it suffers in comparison to Ninja Gaiden on Xbox (for example) for that very reason. I have no problem with constantly respawning to try again. But getting souls? lolrofl.

Pretty high praise! I am kind of skeptical because it sounds like a rather repetitive style of experience - you just trek through the desert, over and over. But it does sound very interesting. For $30 I'd like replayability though.

Hmm, if there was some way to mash up Dark Souls and Journey...

A number of campaigns into Battalion Wars 2. When all is said and done, I'm left with the impression that it would be better off on the PC, merely because hotkeys for this and that would come in handy. I know the franchise belongs to Nintendo... Then why does this game feel like an "RTS light" that would be STILL more playable on the PC?
I wish the Soldiers: Heroes of World War II engine and graphic assets became a foundation of something more arcade-y (the very Soldiers is like Commandos made HARDER). Alas, Battalion Wars 2 is not this game. Of course I didn't expect such detailed graphics and physics of a Wii game (not at any decent framerate anyways), but here I'm just being told to go there, do that, is all (and dearth of buttons makes me rely upon my dudes' A.I. more than I would like to). Sheesh, even as "my first RTS" I'd recommend some computer game instead. I can't figure out what the target audience is.
That said, I haven't played it for the score yet.

Garou: Mark of the Wolves [Neo Geo]. Had a quick couple rounds with some buddies. Good fun.

Hammerin' Harry [Arcade/MAME]. Man, this is fun. Got up to the second stage without dying, and then lost all my lives in rapid succession. Didn't play too long though.

I was playing a bit of Wonder Boy III: Monster's Lair last night on mame.

I really like the platforming; however, the shooter stages are just frustrating, on account of the high amount of health the bosses have (and it being far too easy to die).

Also played a bit of Berzerk on MAME too. I can get about 3000 points, but after that if I die once, I lose all my lives fairly rapidly.

I played Berzerk because I am toying with the idea of getting a Vectrex Arcade System, ha ha ha.

Just finished replaying Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective last night. Great puzzles and solid gamplay, but the true heart of the game is in the story and the characters. One of the few games I've played that's incredibly heavy on plot twists, but not full of cliche. The tricks of the story feel natural, are appropriately hinted at earlier in the game and come off beautifully. Easily my favourite DS game, topping even the Phoenix Wright Trilogy.

Beat Dead Space 1&2. Loved them. Booted up Dead Space: Extraction for Wii. Fucking thing crashes, glitches, stalls, every fucking mission. I've had to unplug my Wii twice. How did this buggy POS even make it to market? Seems someone forgot to tell EA that they can't patch their unfinished games on the Wii. Piss on it.

Dead Space: Extraction never crashed on me (PAL version in 60 Hz mode, PAL unit, CRT via SCART). Technically as competent as your average last-gen EA game (Burnout 3, SSX3, Shox - you name it). Maybe your Wii's optical drive goes off (or just could use cleaning)?
Super Mario Bros. Deluxe - arguably the best way to revisit the game that comes up as even better than I remembered. Sometimes Nintendo just delivers like that.

Heh.

I started playing a bit of Dark Souls. It has a few things I don't like, like not strafing when you move left/right and not being able to map the number keys (seriously, what the hell), but otherwise looks pretty cool so far, like a Gothic with better combat mechanics.

Very relaxing game indeed. I wish that there would be more animation frames though, especially given how clean the sprites are. My current best is reaching up to the third stage.
