Would love a full movie from the guy .
Gareth Evans has made a few, though AFAIK no outright horror ones. You should absolutely check out The Raid: Redemption, it is spectacular. Badass SWAT guy must survive a siege gone wrong in a nightmarish tower block ruled by AK47-wielding crackheads. A pressure cooker of high-performance ultraviolence.
I did enjoy the one about the eye , although I still don't know why the sex scene happened !
Yeah, I thought that was hilarious  Good way to subvert the "have sex and you'll die" horror cliche... or was it?!
And after the Raid make sure you follow it with Raid 2/Berandal. Then after you watch them both you'll go back and watch the fight scenes over. Then you'll watch the final 10 minutes of Raid 2 like 5 times.

Wait, that was me.
Show me everything you have, puppet of Geppetto.

I've only seen clips of The Raid 2, but got to see The Raid at a pre-release screening with the director! It's well worth it; one of the most brutal non-stop action movies of the last 10 years.

Man, the first is waaaay better.

2 is actually kind of bad tbh. Just bookmark all the good fight stuff and dump the rest into the trite mafia bin (overflowing for the last three decades).

It was slightly cheesier which didn't mix with the exceptional fighting and stunts but its far from a bad movie. I thought you defined bad movies well with Man of steel but The Raid 2 isn't anywhere near as bad as that one.

I watched both Attack on Titan movies this past week. I'd give both a 6/10. Typical Japanese type of movie that could of worked with an "Avatar" budget. But in its current guise its one of those movies which suffers from not doing anything well at all. It does tell you some bits about the world that the anime doesn't, like what causes the Titans to appear.

Our little sister -

Japanese movie about 3 sisters whose father dies after having an affair and remarrying another woman leaving all 3 to grow up without him. When he dies the funeral lands a pleasant surprise of another sister from his 2nd wife. Its one of those endearing movies that makes you feel part of the family. I really enjoyed it although I gather it probably won't be for everyone especially on a shmups forum. 8/10.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Great movie. Koreeda is one of the best directors in the world. Check out his other films if you haven't yet; After Life is my favorite from what I've seen.

Jesus, everything's better than Man of Steel. There are grades of bad.

Raid 2 isn't terrible, it has its moments for sure. It's just everything outside of its moments can be left behind. Nothing to see there twice. The first has the containment factor: an explosive murderous floor by floor assault complete with midbosses and TLBs. Getting out alive literally is the plot, and that's all it needed.

Raid 2 trying to have a plot was its biggest mistake.

Beyond the Black Rainbow

Had seen most of it before. If you take it for a 2 hour music video you will enjoy it a lot more. It's a love it or hate it film pretty much, however I mysteriously find myself caught in the middle. Design and cinematography are amazing (especially if you dig macro, and cross processing) but basically nothing happens. Probably best while hallucinating.

Well it's been about three years, and you finally watched it.

I approve of your appraisal too. Hate's too strong a word, but you know I think it's pretty worthless as a movie. Visual stuff has some merit, granted, but the whole is largely wankery without focus.

I know it's been almost a month since The Fake Ghostbusters (my name for it) came out, but I want to link to a fucking awful news article biased toward Sony I found about a week ago when browsing ED. (possibly NSFW due to the title)
Because in all seriousness, Ghostbusters 2016 is every bit as good as Ghostbusters 1984

Just too lazy to post my thoughts. But I thought it was okay. It had a good climax, though. I also liked the soundtrack as well as Will Smith, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman, Jared Leto, and Margot Robbie's performances. Though many consider Jared Leto's performance to not be as good as the late Heath Ledger.

I watched it mostly about a year ago but fell asleep so couldn't just rate it on that. It's taken me a while to come back. It could have been done better for sure - even just cutting about 25 minutes to make it 90 minutes total would have gone a long way. Maybe make half of it what it was and another half an escape. Dunno... not my movie so I'll shut up, but yeah, it's mainly a tech demo. Probably the best movie I can think of next to Enter the Void to have playing in the background at a party or night club.

That's because they cut out and reshot almost everything he did.

A little over 3 years ago, my dad forced me to watch Ghostbusters with him. I thought it was gonna suck because I thought 80's movies were tame and unfunny, but I ended up loving it to the point that I even admitted to my dad that I liked it. I'm really glad I managed to see it before Ramis died (only a few months before!) and the whole reboot nonsense was even conceived, letting me see it from an untainted POV.

What rubs me the wrong way about movies like this is probably less what they are and more how they're championed by the public for all the wrong reasons. I'm all for existential, conceptual filmmaking as long as it's done well.

2001, Blue Velvet, THX 1138 etc, have achieved merit not by being purely concept, but also successful narratives and whatever allegoric subtexts go with them.

BTBR has subtext and somewhere in there is a good original tale about substance abuse, but it's smothered by being too full of itself, awful actors and ponderous scripting. The end is junk too, so there's no payoff except two hours of trippy A/V exercise. Should have been something more.

I watched the original Superman. I liked it quite a bit, though Gene Hackman was a bit over the top as Lex. I'm aware that it predates the politican version of Lex Luthor, but even the Silver Age mad scientist version is less over the top.

I also watched Batman/Superman Worlds Finest (the split up episode version) as part of the Superman series. Good stuff and better than a few of the theatrical Superman and Batman movies.

Nightmare in Elm Street (1984)
It was good, but the ending seemed made so they could make more sequels. Which they did.

Ditto. This also confirms Hollywood needs to shit a movie for Toho to move their asses and do a proper movie, like they did with Godzilla 2000 after the Emmerich disaster in 98.

A new horror/mystery movie from the director of The Chaser (excellent) and The Yellow Sea (good). I went into this with no real knowledge of what it was about, nor did I know that it was even directed by Na Hong-jin. I just felt like watching a movie for the first time in months, looked to see if anything interesting came out, and went with this. It's a great movie - and I say that as someone who typically isn't into this type of horror. I recommend watching it as blind as I was.

saw it this weekend, went in blind as well. best mystery/thriller i've seen in years.

Star Trek: Beyond
7/10 it's OK

It's not anything particularly groundbreaking, but fun on its own and kept be entertained throughout the entire duration of the movie.

Checked out the 3D version of Suicide Squad recently and it's an interesting action fest romp clocking in at a whopping 2 hours & 3 minutes in duration. According to imdb.com with an estimated $175 milliion dollar production budget, Suicide Squad has a lot going for it.

What a lot of folks don't know is this: a lot of actors got injured on the job during training (even actor Will Smith busted his calf during training) in preparation to filming this flick. The sexy actress, Margot Robbie, is quite stunning in person just as she's shown in this particular film -- plus a lot of the sexual overtones that she gives off with her Harley Quinn character is quite something. It seems the entire cast & crew had a fun time making this movie -- can't wait to see the hilarious bloopers and outtakes on the 3D Blu-Ray release of SS down the road. Of course, with the entire film filmed in Canada because of the tax credit breaks, it makes sense to make a big-budget action/comic book genre film there.

Suicide Squad Factoid time: The Croc Man's mask was created by KNB EFX Group (a well-known power house special EFX giant in the horror film genre indeed -- it's a given alrighty) and is an actual prosthetic mask worn by actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (and not a CG effect as widely believed to be). Quite impressive nevertheless.

There's a tie-in to the earlier DC released Batman Vs. Superman flick in two scenes as shown in this Suicide Squad film as they both take place within the current DC comic book universe/timeline.

If you stay for the end credits, there's another key scene that takes place so don't leave just yet when it appears after the first couple of minutes of staff credit roll.
