GunnerGunnerGunner(FREE DEMO it works now)

Post by GunnerDev »

Hello, this is a video game.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nHZgjE ... sp=sharing

You may fullscreen with Alt+Enter for best results. Score is displayed offscreen to the right, and is not ordinarily visible during gameplay -resize to observe. Difficulty settings currently do nothing.
Controls are Z-shoot, arrow key movement, backspace-pause, ESC-quit.

I thought that I would make games for a living, and decided to see what was possible with only the simplest of tools. The first draft of much is done, and I hope to release soon. This has been made from scratch in C[nominally]++ for windows.

To speak at length, I have tried to learn from playing CAVE games and Raiden Fighters, but I feel as though this game is mostly my own insanity. The idea is to dispatch with slow movement entirely by placing bullets farther apart. I wanted to add a rank system, but I no longer have the motivation, so I won't. Currently, the game is only tuned to my skill, which I arbitrarily consider to be 40%. Maybe you will find it too easy, and I will have to change it. There will not be any complicated systems, to the extent that bombs and extra lives are absent from the game; the game will be balanced with this in mind, but please do your best.

This game's scoring system involves dodging point items and pulling them up the screen -when you shoot an enemy, a silver medal will periodically shave off of them; when you hold your fire, all silver medals will move towards you; a silver medal is worth as much as the total medals on screen since you last fired(max 50), and collecting them will power up your gun. Shooting enemies and collecting gold medals also matter, and are fairly straight forwards.

Please consider the calming black background to be a feature. I have used too many colors for everything else, and a background would only induce seizures. I have no idea what I'm doing regarding sound, but I have done my best to compose music. Please have an open mind.

I want you to consider this an experiment, in which a toybox is upended so that all manner of enjoyable nonsense spills out, and I want you to feel as though I have put everything into executing this mad plan with great care and grace.

If you would like to say something to/at me, I would do my best to respond in this thread, in the hopes that you buy my game when it releases to escape me from destitution.

I'll start working on the second demo now. I'll change the thread-title when it's available.
