Getting that Hyper Duel Sound?

Does anyone know how I can go about getting that Hyper Duel soundtrack sound? I'm guessing Hyakutaro Tsukumo used a General MIDI set of some kind, does anyone know what synth he used or how I can go about replicating it?

Just a guess, but I'd try some Yamaha XG compatible synths.

It's output from an SC-88Pro or similar (e.g. SC-880), the pick slide is a dead giveaway.

SC-88Pro is correct, and he used that thing on pretty much everything he did until the late-'00s.
